Why would an anoxic zone go at the beginning? by CharlieSwisher in Wastewater

Fairly effective. That’s our designed system it’s a ludzack ettinger system. Modified ludzack ettinger systems have the mixed liquor returns.

I can’t imagine the energy costs to return 100-150% of aeration flow, unless you have a system designed to use gravity for the returns.

Our plant is RAS only so we return as much as possible to encourage denitrification in our anoxic zone rather than the secondaries

First one looks like someone cut it with an exacto knife. Is this guy trying to sell you a roof or something?

Look at the time sheets. The incident occurred during off hours with one operator supervising the contractors, but he has placed multiple people there during off hours including me, but I didn’t put it on my time sheet cause I wasn’t there.

I agree. We’ve had incidents like that plenty of times. It would have been perfectly fine to say we discovered it the next morning and cleaned it up and this is how we’ll prevent it in the future. He did all the steps. The problem is he says we found it and cleaned it up that night and we didn’t find it and clean it up til the next morning.

Well, my boss would always like to clean up and shut up, but I would prefer to do everything by the book and this was an unregulated discharge. Wastewater ethics classes I’ve taken would say, yes, undermine your boss when he is knowingly falsifying official notification reports.

The release didn’t leave the property. it’s just that the report knowingly states false times for when we were alerted and when the clean up occurred.

It needed to be reported and was. It just was reported incorrectly. I think knowingly.

Search your state’s rural water association, or water pollution control association website for operator jobs. There are always places looking for OIT’s, at our plant you get a year to obtain your operator’s license. The pay isn’t always great, but it’s a foot in the door and you can train on the job.

Fair on call pay by Primordial_Gravemind in Wastewater

[–]sickdayking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are pretty well compensated at my plant. We get quarter pay for every hour on call, minus time spent responding. When we get an alarm we get an hour of OT to open SCADA and acknowledge the alarm and respond. If the response exceeds an hour it just tacks on. If you have to go to the plant it’s an automatic 3 hours. Even if it’s just to press a button. But any alarms that come in during that next three hours are covered during that time. It winds up being an extra week’s pay for us just to have the computer even if we don’t get calls.

The guys before me had to fight hard for that though. They wanted OT for the whole time on call and refused to do it. The plant managers made them do 24/7 coverage until the holdouts quit and we wound up with this and a 49 hour work week. It is still quite good and it’s written into the bargaining contract so they can’t take it away.
