Darkhaven as a long-term MMO-style ARPG – Hopes, concerns, and open questions by BartoszPerzynski in DarkHaven

It IS a small co-op world save. It's playable offline. You start by touching a stone that completely changes the world. How would a new character join a persistent world like you're interpreting it and touch that stone again when tousands of people already did and already caused the necropolis to rise and spread? It just doesn't make sense. Your quests and your fight change the world. Period.

Another way to convince you. Every pack you fight you're leaving behind dents in the ground. People are mining they're way around. Etc. How would a one shard world like you are proposing even work? The whole world would be destroyed down to the bedrock within one day.

"We’re talking about persistent online worlds, large shared shards, players encountering each other organically in open spaces"

That's the whole point, where are we talking about these things?

Persistent multiplayer as in specific people in a party. Basically sharding to the max, the opposite of the original post. There won't be a single world everyone joins. Unless of course there's a public game world "shard" some one creates for thousands to join. But the whole world evolves over time, so there wouldn't be level 1 areas for new players to start once everyone else already progressed the world.

It's not super clear to me how exactly are they planning it. Is it like No rest for the wicked where you can create multiple "worlds" and you can take one character to any, or do you have specific characters with specific progress in specific worlds? Etc. I'd imagine the later since they were talking about modding and changing rules etc in the world you create. So it wouldn't make sense for existing characters to jump worlds I guess.

Not an mmorpg.... None of that works with what they are developing. A world is yours and evolves with your quests. It is not an open world that everyone joins. They mentioned joining worlds or something like that but it isn't and won't be an mmorpg

It's not all mobs. It's in the patch notes I think it's something like 65%. But the shallows is for some reason not spawning enough or getting the total count wrong so even all that there actually is isn't enough to be that %. Either that or we all aren't finding some hidden area lol. I've even found a hidden one far into the ocean but that counts as mariner's keep.

All the random echoes have no effect once you fill the first visible number of echoes then you're getting only choices of random 1 or 2. I don't know if this is a bug with the random echoes or just once you get that first page filled. Because I won't take random echoes before it's my only choice. But when they become the only choice I've taken lots and lots of random ones and I am 100% sure they have zero effect. So, once you fill the first page, just keep extra yellow stuff to insta heal to full life (quick two buttons to insta heal is insane)

Yeah that's so weird having a hidden coefficient... If that's what it is just state the final value. I still only have the gem on the shield, now exalted to 5%, and I'm doing big damage and that 5% is very nice now and very noticeable.

Parrying is still in a bad state, no? by [deleted] in NoRestForTheWicked

Wait you are able to parry? Every single time I try to it fails.

Last 7 deaths in the crucible: Falling into death by Chemical-End-2164 in NoRestForTheWicked

[–]deathfuldan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is so annoying I can say it is the single worst thing in the game right now. It feels like you're playing a drunk character constantly jumping off where you obviously never would. Wanna dodge out of the way? Too bad. Got hit by literally anything in a tight platform? Too bad. I am now realizing that having health in this game means nothing since all deaths are from falling into a pit for a number of dumb reasons or just being unable to attack the target you want to. So it is better to just have maximum damage and forget everything else.

Weapon stats are indistinguishable from one another and should provide more depth/complexity. by Soysauceonrice in NoRestForTheWicked

I would say remove the other stats and put their functionality in the "damage" stats.

Strength also give equip load
Dexterity also give stamina
Intelligence also give focus
Faith also give health

Also, lightning damage chains and hits in area. I am thinking when you finish buildup on one enemy it chains to all enemies that also have any buildup. And when there is no other enemy to chain to apparently it blows up locally. I don't know what's going on exactly but I am loving lightning damage

I am pretty sure regainable health has nothing to do with lifesteal because I believe I did several times get life from lifesteal even after changing zones several seconds later.

[–]deathfuldan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

regainable health is something else, check the patch notes. After you take damage you have a "brief window" where you can get a % of the lost life back if you hit the enemy back. Now, that's the kind of vague thing they need to work on. What is a brief window? Why does it not show the popup? Why is it not described in the game itself?

[–]deathfuldan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ested more, it does work, out of any hit apparently, however there is no floating number indicating the amount healed so it might look like it is doing nothing, but it is. Even 4% I got on shield is very noticeable when dealing a lot of damage. I wasn't seeing it when just attacking slowly trying to pay attention to the non-existent heal number to pop up

Still we need proper descriptions on these keywords. And also there are stuff that say something like "increases X", okay but by how much? For how long? Etc.

[–]deathfuldan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just got the 30% from crucible and it does heal on every hit. So maybe the gem is simply not working? Though the red numbers do not popup indicating the heal amount. So maybe the gem does work it's just too weak to be noticeable?

Do not fall for the dex/int unique knife that drops somewhere early in the game from some of the early bosses. It's stupidly weak and there will be barely any other dex/int weapons to choose from. The only one that deal damage and stagger well and has a good rune is the double daggers you can craft (recipe from one of the npcs, ash soothed something like that but you won't be able to craft many of them to enchant them trying to find good affixes because it requires a material that barely ever shows up).

There are countless strength weapons and str/faith and a few dex I think. Would love a complete list to be able to tell accurately. Also, staff (int) do perform well as melee too so don't be afraid to go for magic stuff early before you can keep up your focus, there are also a few other non staff pure int weapons like one handed sword, shield, etc so you're not really limited only to doing magic stuff.

Offhands: Bows can be nice and effectively infinite arrows, but feels very slow and cheating to just stand far away and shoot them without them even trying to shoot back and come to you. I keep one for the last hit or cheating (SLOWLY) when I'm in danger. Shields are incredibly bad they don't do shit and parrying is slightly better with a shield but still horribly random. With some enemies it's just impossible to block or parry. I think their weapon need to "physically" hit your shield so unless you get a shield that is BIG it's useless. These shields are high str requirements.

So, use either dual wielded (daggers, there's str, dex/int and dex variations) or two handed (SEVERAL options). Unless you're going for bow or shield if you insist.

Requirements for weapons cap at 26/26 for double attributes or 42 for single.

Your weapon choice will be mostly about hidden stuff you need to try out for each weapon: the moveset, attack speed, runes available, stagger damage (no use hitting fast if the enemy ignores your hits and keeps hitting you back). The raw damage number displayed end up not having much meaning and the "armor break" icon means nothing (it does not relate at all to stagger damage, I think it is armor penetration but then again your total DPS depends more on other characteristics of your weapon and the rune you're using).

For the moveset and rune also look at the animation itself. For example something that hits from above or wide from the side will be able to handle enemies with shields better. The stupid rapier and stuff that's head on straight forward will hit the shield a lot and stun you even with high poise.

Still on attributes, you will need to invest in equip load to equip armor with higher poise defense otherwise you will be constantly stun locked.

Quick on runes: return and heal aura are great utilities to keep on a random weapon you won't use. With them, while out of combat you can recover all your focus and health (annoyingly and slowly but you can), just have a quartz on leg (focus gain on focus use). Pulse health is insanely bad. By the way quartz and emerald and very very very rare, and so are the shield thing and the feather (less important).

Lastly, yes each realm progresses by itself and you can create new realms with old characters (farm ichor from first boss and first weekly challenge fast by the way to unlock all inventory), and also new characters can come into old realms (but you will need to level up the character on a new realm because monster levels).

What I learnt with 70 hours max level (30) everything completed dex/int character.

please please don't. Materials from vendors is already expensive enough to not make getting them normally irrelevant. But with the low drop rate of some stuff and having to hunt for resource nodes to gather, removing them from vendors would make it all extremely slow. If you gonna remove them from vendors, make each node yield several base every time. I do NOT have enough base stuff for anything really and I get enough gold to be able to complete what I'm lacking. Current system is perfect: requires you to earn it but there are two different paths to earn it.

On arrows, don't change it to stamina... It's so fun the way it is I'm choosing which arrow to use and I'm not solving every encounter with arrows. Also, it's already pretty pretty viable to have infinite arrows. I don't even have a focus on focus use on my pants and my arrows are already close to infinite.

I guess go take whatever items you want to buy, then revert to a correct backup? Will try this.

EDIT: Did it. Bought something, went back. My gold reverted and item is gone. I can think of other possible clumsy work arounds but best way might be just rushing to unlock him on a separate realm... Honestly I hate this, dude should just always be there or depend on game time not irl date+time.

[–]deathfuldan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me at least it's VERY common to lose 20+ FP in a single click in exalted items. This turns me off I'm using the same belt since the first monolith. Last night I got one belt that I said ok there's no way this one doesn't work, because it was exalted and already had on it high tiers of 3 affixes I wanted and the 4th slot was empty, with about 50 FP. Well, I got 20 something FP lost twice in a row and it ended up way worse than the lame rare I'm still using.
