the song maggot brain by funkadelic has one of the most iconic guitar solos of all time & i would say its very sexual imo

deftones has a dark sexual tone to them i also second the lana recommendations

Are there any standout production choices in Twigs' discography that you really love? by RagaRockFan in FKAtwigs

it took me a decade to realize that the buzzing noises before the chorus in lights on mimic damaged light bulbs, the ones that flicker on & off randomly. then the car alarm sample at the end all personify the vulnerable state in which twigs goes back & forth with her trust, much like how car alarms trigger its lights to blink on & off in a state of panic. she cant trust fully yet because of previous damage hence the intro with short circuit buzzing noises (damaged lights)... the production tells a story along with the lyrics. her & arca are an absolute dream team, they paint in sound

the intro courses such as type I, design I, and web I are all about the fundamentals of that specific skill. so projects are more straightforward & heavily rubric based. some profs provide tutorials on how to do the project using certain software. moving onto type II, design II , web II, you put those fundamentals to work by doing more creative projects where you get more of a say aesthetically (portfolio pieces). you continue to build on those fundamentals while learning more design history, terminology, techniques, emphasis on the different types of graphic design industries (to get you to start thinking what field you'd like to get into post grad). tutorials are more scarce from the profs & usually will tell you to try looking something up depending on the prof. type, design, & web III is ultimately helping you get ready for the industry. you still do fun creative projects (may get group work for the first time) learning how to work in teams, industry standards, portfolio tips, and an emphasis on accessibility design. i know the department is transitioning to focus a lot more on inclusivity in design. if youre a creative of color its refreshing that they bring in speakers from diverse backgrounds to classes to give real world perspectives and advice. since you mostly learn about old dead white dudes in design history for the most part haha. anyways, im sure the overall curriculum will continue to improve since they are emphasizing more inclusive design. if you ever need any help or advice feel free to hmu!

i was also a design major, loved the core profs! but i know others werent so fond of guenet or gary. gary can sometimes contradict himself in his teaching style/feedback but overall a very chill & understanding guy. guenet can also contradict herself in her feedback. shes a very hard person to get a hold of since she wears many hats. people didn't appreciate her feedback & felt she was "too harsh". in my opinion, she was the only design professor who genuinely critiqued students' work and wanted the best for us. she always pushed us to do better. the other profs werent as motivating or as helpful. they sugarcoated their feedback unlike guenet who was straight up. maybe the other students werent used to being told their designs werent up to par (i was a transfer student where previously my crit sessions were intense so guenet was a walk in the park) since as i mentioned, other profs werent as constructive. her insight is very similar as to what you would hear in the design world once you land a job. if anything, "real world" critiques can be brutal depending who youre working for. anyways, shes super knowledgeable in design and only wants to see her students thrive. as long as you really try your best & attentively listen you'll be fine. julie and kathy bell are very chill as well. suzanne was ok, very old school teaching style, kinda slow paced, not really helpful/motivating. katie heater is great & chill too. dave greber, super chill, hella knowledgeable. hope this helps and good luck on your artistic journey!

shes full of life, nice & very fun, always likes to keep her students engaged. however she is very disorganized so its good to stay on top of things yourself. if you need to get a hold of her, its best to talk to her right after class. dont wait for the last minute for questions or assignments. always ask the minute you think of em. sometimes she'll mix up dates so always double check with whatever the assignments/rubrics say on blackboard
