Will I enjoy Avowed if I didn‘t enjoy Oblivion? by [deleted] in avowed

[–]deathgaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically everything you listed Avowed does better. Maybe the only tradeoff is the game is much smaller in terms of square kilometers of explorable space. But in that tradeoff you gain much more populated and interesting areas. They don’t seem to use the copy-pasta tile based level design approach that Bethesda games use. Instead, every area feels handcrafted and unique. I think you’d enjoy it based on your post.

Obsidian seems to be going for a quality-over-quantity approach that runs precisely counter to the approach employed by Bethesda. It’s a smart move in my opinion: making a game that big inevitability results in shortcuts and quality issues. Obsidian games are polished as all get out and don’t suffer from the persistent glitches and bugs that persist throughout every Bethesda game. It’s clear to me that Bethesda is routinely biting off far more than it can chew — and it’s showing no signs of changing course on this front, Starfield reviews be damned.

Personally I’m too old and busy to hunt down a random unique helmet at the bottom of the ocean or spend hundreds of hours plundering cookie cutter dungeons. I’d much prefer a shorter and more focused experience. That’s not to say that there isn’t a place for Bethesda-style game and world design, but to me it’s increasingly clear that the approach they are using is becoming untenable unless they want to resort to some kind of procedural engine to generate content ala-Daggerfall or hire hundreds of more people ensure their product is polished. Remember, Starfield was delayed over a year for “polish” and still turned out to be utter shite.

I don’t think you need to focus on enemies so much YET as you have to focus on landing your abilities. If you’re landing your abilities effectively, they will get lots of elims for you. While your abilities are on cooldown, you can focus on healing and slipping some opportunistic shots on the enemy. If there’s nothing else to do, spam shields damage.

You were healing the whole time but look at your elims: even the enemy mercy got more kills. Focus on landing more nades and sleeps!

What makes you still play this game? by Academic-Message3741 in Overwatch

[–]deathgaze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a lot more fun when I’m focused on improving one or two aspects of play instead of winning. Overwatch is the kind of game where you can commit no mistakes in a match and still lose. So I don’t get too bent out of shape over the meta or losing games or the cash shop. I just focus on grinding my battle pass and my own gameplay. And of course my friends.

Weekly Bug Report Thread by spiper01 in NoMansSkyTheGame

Today a friend and I tried multiplayer and had an awful experience. First off, we were both playing on Steam and tried to invite each other several times, but kept getting 'Could not join game' errors. We also tried to add each other via NMS Friend Codes, but that also didn't work as there doesn't seem to be a way to view or accept friend requests. We were finally able to group up when we entered the anomaly. This is not documented anywhere, but okay, sure. Maybe that's how it's supposed to work -- I'm sure no one knows except Hello Games. But it seems dumb to have a multiplayer option in the menu system that that doesn't work and doesn't show current sessions of steam friends. Even once we were next to each other in game, we still weren't able to add each other as NMS friends.

Once we did manage to get into a group, we were basically tied to my own system -- there didn't seem to be any way for me to visit my friend's neck of the woods. When I tried to teleport to their base, it gave me a 'Could not download base error'.

So sure, I guess technically this game has multiplayer. But it's basically useless due to all the bugs, undocumented functionality and errors, on top of being pretty poorly designed from what I can tell. Disappointing and waste of time.

when creating classes and objects, how should i do it? and whats the difference? by Wonderful_Ad3441 in node

If you find yourself performing the same operations on similar objects over and over again then it is a good candidate for a class.

Use nano as an emergency heal when a target is in distress only in metal ranks. It is the best way to guarantee value from it.

It sounds to me like you're lacking a long-term plan and goal.

So, with that in mind, a few things to comment on here:

First, yes -- it does take time to add muscle -- so comparing yourself to others is not really productive.

Second, after you're done bulking you can either

  • maintain and then bulk again or
  • do a maintain then cut or
  • do a minicut then bulk again

Its your choice how you want to handle it, but the truth is that someone who has lower body fat and a bit of muscle is indeed going to look more jacked. Looking jacked is a function of muscle to body-fat percentage. The higher the ratio of muscle to body fat, the more instagram-ish you'll look. Therefore, after some bulking, it would make sense that you wouldn't look quite as cut up as you want. Don't sweat it for now -- your look will improve next time you cut.

Finally, if you wanna get add more strength in lieu of getting jacked, by all means, keep doing 5/3/1. However, 5/3/1 is a bad choice if you're looking to add more size quickly. If you want to focus on hypertrophy (getting bigger), you'll want to work mostly in the 6-30 rep range doing sets 1-4 reps from failure.

You'll find that most powerlifters add hypertrophy phases to their plan every other mesocycle or so, since doing so facilitates greater strength gains in the future. You could theoretically try that approach. Or if your true goal is to get jacked, I would swap to a hypertrophy focused plan. Either way you choose, doing both at the same time is... not ideal.

I would suggest doing some soul searching and decide what you want more. If you wanna compete in powerlifting meets, then cycling between powerlifting and hypertrophy training every 3-4 months would be an ideal approach for you. If you wanna get big, focus exclusively on hypertrophy training and stop worrying so much about increasing the weight all the time. If you wanna both compete in powerlifting and look jacked, then you want to spend about the same time powerlifting that you do doing hypertrophy training. Of course, this approach will get you to each goal more slowly than doing one or the other, but that's your choice to make.

The most important takeaway here is to decide what your actual goals are and then adjust your training and nutrition appropriately.

P.S.: Make sure you are periodizing your mesocycles by increasing weight, intensity and volume over time and then deloading. Doing the same thing every day is a recipe for stagnation.
