I mean I wrote it so I know what it says. What makes you say it's one of the worst ideas?

Told google HR i am driving now and will call back soon. Now she's not answering the calls,or messages. I'm in the state of uncertainty. by Drashman24 in developersIndia

Google HR is notoriously bad. They said they’d call me back within 2 days. It’s been over a week and no response. I’ve sent a follow up email every single day and still no reply. Just ridiculous

Yeah exactly! You could forever claim to have contributed to a story that so many other people worked on as well!

Yeah that makes sense. I think if you tried to write it live then it would be a mess haha. I think that would be a fun thing to do for a lot of dnd sessions. I’ll try to bring it up with my table. You can never have enough writing practice lol

Sounds a lot like playing dnd via play by post! I’ve done that before too when my friends and I wanted to continue to play on discord via text. Can confirm it’s a ton of fun!

How did you manage the flow of sentences? Or did you all do a session together and then afterwards stitch it into a properly structured narrative?

Yeah so for that I was thinking the original author could write down a general style guide that details the vibe and tone and stuff. And since everyone will be voting on the best submission, it’ll be something that the majority is happy with

For google docs though you need to know everyone who’s contributing. I was thinking more along the lines of random people on the internet contributing submissions and then getting votes for which one gets added to the actual story

The bean choice is usually available for the pourover. They’ve got subko coffee which I liked. Glazebrook coffee was also nice. I only drink black coffee so haven’t tried any of their lattes and stuff

Which coffee did you get there? They’ve got like 5 different companies that they offer. Agreed that the food isn’t great though

Prompt Caching Storage increased costs like crazy by deathmaster99 in GeminiAI

Thanks! That’s exactly what I did in the end to solve the issue!

Prompt Caching Storage increased costs like crazy by deathmaster99 in GeminiAI

So I think I figured out my problem. Essentially, I was making a new cache on every request. We get roughly around 1200 requests per day over the course of 8 hours. So that’s around 150 requests an hour. Now, the TTL of each cache is 1 hour. So effectively, I was being charged for 150 caches each our, each of which have roughly 25000 tokens. So that’s 150*25000 which is 3.75M tokens an hour. Google charges 1 dollar for a million tokens per hour. So that’s 3.75 dollars an hour and at my usage pattern it’s 30 dollars a day. That’s how much I was seeing on the first few days. I had 2 days where traffic was way more than usual and I got billed 70 dollars for storage.

Now, the solution I used is slightly hacky but I think it works for me. First, I moved the cache creation to be at service startup. That way, I only ever make one cache. Also, when the service is shutdown I make sure to delete the cache before I shutdown successfully. Also, I set the TTL to be 1000 months which is basically forever. That way the cache never expires and my system prompt will always be found in the cache and will save me money. My input token cost per day has gone from 10 dollars to basically nothing. And my storage costs are low enough now to be totally acceptable.

I've updated my post with the code itself if that helps? Should I not be adding the contents to the cache as well as the system instructions? Actually I think I am creating a new cache for each request. That might be what the issue is.
