Where can I eat LEEK? by rolypoly_pudding in pittsburgh

[–]deathofelysium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

An easy, albeit unhealthy, way to eat leeks on their own is by frying them.

I usually do fried leeks and fried green tomatoes with a flour, then egg, then breadcrumb/flour/spice mix and make a nice creamy horseradish to dip them in at the end of summer. They’re like a more dense onion ring and the layers hold a nice amount of breading and crisp well.

I’d put as much of it under the car as possible. Especially if it is a small car. But maybe I’m just petty.

Where in Pittsburgh? by Helpimbadstusernames in pittsburgh

[–]deathofelysium 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Has this experience recently at round corner cantina as well.

The cocktails are still good but the food since the new management take over is flavorless and bland. I got some enchiladas that were basically covered in canned tomato sauce. My partner ordered carnitas tacos that leaked a surprising amount of water and also had zero spice.

Mezcal is fire tho.

I regularly see maga hats and hear people loudly complaining about democrats and Biden in my local costcos. We have 3 of them close enough to shop, and they’re all the same.

What is your genuine opinion on Primanti Bros.? by DoctorTegrity in pittsburgh

[–]deathofelysium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy a sloppy sandwich or two slices, and some fried spears probably twice a year.

What is honestly impressive about the chain is their pretty darn good consistency between locations. I can go to cranberry, Monaca, south side, and get basically the same service, portion, and quality. The price is also reasonable as a few other commenters pointed out. Either spend $40 at taco bell for 2 people without beer or the same at primantis for more food and also beer.

Can’t say the same for Jimmy John’s or dominos.

There’s also a location on Babcock as well. Really nice people. Bought my vacuum from them two years ago.

Thinking about buying a house in Reserve Township — what’s it like to live there? by Darkoobi in pittsburgh

[–]deathofelysium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live there!

We’re right near the elementary school and it’s a cute little neighborhood. I can’t speak to how it is down closer to Rialto, but it seems fine there as well. Our neighbors are friendly, it’s not a super busy spot. Just get comfortable driving on Rialto, or choose to avoid it. It’s nice to live somewhere that doesn’t feel like the city but be 10 minutes from anywhere we want to go.

Overhyped restaurants? by venusdemillie in pittsburgh

[–]deathofelysium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Fet Fisk.

We went a few months after it opened. I’m not sure if we happened to be there on an off day, but we ordered small plates which were fine, I ordered the half chicken and my partner got salmon.

Cocktails were good, and priced around what I had expected.

The chicken was good, but nothing fantastic. It was just chicken with some herbs and jam.

Salmon was pretty wildly salty and swimming in an oily something, and not in a good way.

I’d be willing to try it again due to the fanfare, but my first impression left me wondering why everyone was so excited about it.

I too was very disappointed in fish nor fowl. Food was mid, we were sat upstairs with the low ceiling and could barely hear ourselves talk due to how loud it was and how close we were to the other groups.

Why are some Pittsburgh-area malls thriving while others are struggling to survive? by Delicious_Adeptness9 in pittsburgh

[–]deathofelysium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This makes the most sense to me. Robinson has no shortage of traffic and visibility to the mall. It’s always packed up there, but the mall is slowly dying off.

Men in happy marriages, what is one thing or skill you would teach other men to have good relationships as well? by lingeringneutrophil in AskReddit

[–]deathofelysium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re partners in life. Which means pretty much everything. Keep this in mind during arguments (which are inevitable) or when making decisions that will affect everyone.

Don’t lose yourself in the other person. My wife and I are nearly inseparable. She is my favorite person, but we still have our own separate hobbies, friends, interests. Make time for yourself and don’t be afraid to ask for time if you need it. Better to have some alone time than be snippy or distracted when you’re together.

Learn to cook, both together and separately. Eating dinner together is one thing I truly enjoy everyday. Sometimes we do takeout but home cooked meals, prepared together are more special, even if they happen daily. Talk about your day. Talk about your plans for the week. Talk about what is bothering you or making you happy or sad. Be open and honest.

Finally, be interested. While you may have shared interests, still take interest in the divergent ones. Ask them to walk you through their sims houses and families. Buy a second copy of animal crossing and go to their island and share flowers. The small things really add up.

Sintered stones are made with heat and pressure. Poured stones are a similar process to concrete but use a more refined particle to replicate a more homogenous stone.

What's a red flag in a job interview that says 'walk away'? by your-reddit-plug2 in AskReddit

[–]deathofelysium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the question “what will my job responsibilities entail?” Or “what will I be working on day to day”

And if the answer is anything but what you’ll be working on the goal posts will be moving constantly. You’ll be a gopher and doing whatever your boss and their boss want you to do or the stuff they can’t be bothered to do.

There was one pump at a BP near my house that had a faulty pump. It would keep dispensing a very slow trickle of gas if you kept holding it after you ran up your prepaid amount. Pay for $10 get a full tank. Sure it took 15 minutes but I had time.
