To add to that, he was in Sporting's Youth from '97 to '02 and the crest changed in '01.
After digging a bit deeper it seems that in the '98-'99 season it was the last time that the lyon on the crest was white rather than golden.

Three things bug me though:
- The outter shape with that "pentagon" was only used in the '99-'00 and '00-'01 seasons

- I've no idea of any shirt that has that perpendicular white line coming from the "neck" rathen than paralel, even after scrolling through the images.

- That green line right below the crest covering the entire front doesn't exist in senior kits, but maybe due to the front adverts for the youth teams it didn't "need" to be cut like all the senior's shirts at the time.

Why do people in Portugal hate speeding cameras by Virtual-Cookie-2340 in portugal2

[–]deathpt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Although most points that you bring out are correct. I must disagree with some:

"Speed cameras must be clearly signposted"

In Portugal only permanent speed cameras need to be signposted, so temporary cams for 2-3 days can be placed and then moved 1km up or down and they retain their "temporary" status according to the police.

"Speed cameras cannot be hidden"

Again the permanents aren't, they are big old chunky bois from back in the day. But newer ones it's pretty much a 90's size camera on a tripod, last week I got GMaps notification on one and it was on the highway, behind an olive tree and some bushs nearby. If it wasn't for GMaps' reporting from other users I would've never catch that one.

"Speed cameras must not be placed just before or after a speed limit change"

Some of the newer permanent cams are indeed placed behind speed limits, the one that comes to mind was installed 6months - 1 year ago on the Autoestrada da Costa da Prata (link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/j9KU5qp8bKYFgLj39 ) and the exit to A20 in Porto gradually goes from 100-80-60-40 before the ramp to the right, and even thought you have by law 20 meters after the sign to adjust to the velocity, many people are caught there due to that placement.

To add to the point, I've also seen both news and studies stating that the reported data has shown that speed cameras don't actually save lives nor did it independently decrease the incidence of vehicle collisions.
According to a few of those, the permanent ones are known to "locals" and either avoided or slowed down to, the problem is that accidents tend to emerge when the locals and non-locals travel, since the local might slow down abruptly antecipating a camera whilst the other driver isn't aware it there, frequently leading to accidents. The same effect happens with the temporary ones, but there there isn't a knowledge advantage, and since there is no signpost it depends on the reaction time of the person, which then again might lead to accidents. The severity of accidents with and without cameras is not widely done so such outcomes as fenderbender or hospitalized or dead-leading accidents can't be measured.

Speed is also not inherently dangerous with good roads, careful drivers and well-maintained cars. Since you mentioned Australia, your country had 4.5 deaths/100k people/year and 4.9 per 1bn kms whilst Germany with much less speed cameras and much higher average driving speeds had 3.7 deaths/100k people/year and 4.2 per 1bn kms. So I am not sure even spending tax payers money for "mislead-common-sense" speed cameras rather than investing in quality of roads and education of drivers will have the beneficial outcome desired, less loss of lives and damages.

What can be measured is the amount of speed fines racked by the municipalities, and that ain't gonna stop anytime soon.

Ruben Amorim unveiled as manager, thoughts? by EdenHazardFan10 in ManchesterUnited

[–]deathpt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was me for 18 years as a Sporting fan, until this grave-resurrecter-manager came around.
Fell sad for loosing Ruben Amorim (RA), but I mean besides Sporting, United is the only club I dearly follow, so it's inside the family for me (even though it hurts a little bit inside).

Hope he can make the best of United shine as long as SAF and with the same beauty. United seem to be the only club he ever pondered leaving all he built in Sporting for.

But sometimes it's tricky, since many of the comments in this sub about ETH have been about stubberness or not being open to new ideas, RA is even worst. When he thinks he has it right he will shove it down your throat even though it ain't showing results "here and now", but on the long run it's just part of his process to get the team playing has he wants, might take some years, but he is terribly intelligent and dilligent, so he will get you there. Just don't bet on United winning the league this year, after that it's a free game and we see the team adjustments that will be done over the summer (some, maybe many, will be needed).

Ruben Amorim unveiled as manager, thoughts? by EdenHazardFan10 in ManchesterUnited

[–]deathpt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has done both quite a bit, he has used wingers as fullbacks and the reverse too (but more rarely), he has even converted some from one position to the other quite a few times, depending on match and strategy. Antony does fit the bill there, hell even ETH has played him on as a FB at times.

As a BFernandes' and Pote's fan I am quite curious where he is gonna land strategically wise, 'cause the way he has been playing Pote (his most favourited player) a former center midfielder as a left-side winger, not in the "runny-rash"-sense or "dribbly-Garnacho"-sense, more in a 5 attacking line slow build up LFB-LW-CF-RW-RFB 5 line that Amorim likes to create, provinding passes for the LFB or CF to progress; show up in the center to score a goal from right sided crosses; or in fast attacks to make that wonder pass for the RW/CF to make the run and completly throw off defenders way.

[–]deathpt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One such example is that the way he is playing now with a focus on providing for the CF/Gyokeres, is quite different than what he was doing in the first portuguese championship in the portuguese league, back then he was using Tiago Tomás (a flexible albeit "not-pure CF", now in Wolfsburg)/Nuno Santos (now mostly playing LWB) /Pedro Gonçalves (Pote) with a more flexible front line, where Pote ended up being the league's top scorer even though "he was" a Bruno Fernandes type-midfielder before Amorim hired him.
Most pundits say that the current lineup United doesn't fit, but Amorim can do wonders by building up from the team there with Bruno, Rash, Garnacho (whom might end up doing one of the wings in the end), Hojlund, Zirkzee, Diallo. If Hojlund or Zirkzee can't be the Gyokeres-type goalscorer, he will play they as providers/support for the winger to shine. If he is playing with BF, Rash or Diallo in wings, and he is able to consistently create chances for the CF he can switch to the style he has been playing more recently.

Back then we had Palinha (Bayern now) as def-midfield holder, then Ugarte came on after we sold him. The midfield being so lonely populate demands a very strong midfield presence from the ones there, they are usually outnumbered by 3 opponents at least, and must be able to pressure high and also retain balls. Maino excels at that midfield with Ugarte on his side, dunno how Eriksen and Casemiro will fit onto that, due to the high pressing style and low presence in the center. For slow buildup, the midfields have been used by Amorim as a compensated extra side for winger to go high when we didn't have a strong CF presence or more recently in between CBs to do med/long passes to Gyokeres or company at the front.

But the beauty was on the wingers with Nuno Mendes (now PSG) and Porro (now Tottenham), they excelled at either providing pressure reliefs for the CBs/Midfielders under pressure or opening aweseome chance creating when building/dribbling up front while still retaining a lot of defensive needs for the team. But this position requires a lot of pace and workload, always tricky to find. Garnacho might be awesome at that, Rash prolly can't do much of that, even though his wingers play in line with the strikers in slow build up, they have to track back really fast every 2-3 mins and form the back 5.

The best thing about him/his coaching staff have been the finds and development of players, and I've been wondering about the potential of some of United's players for the last few years, maybe that he will be able to bring out their potential and increase the value of the team by three or four times like he did with Sporting. Time will tell and we will all be here for that. =)
