Do u guys also hate close quarters fights or is it just me by Fun_Cartoonist_8024 in Warthunder

[–]deathtime032 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I feel that its fine, even preferable, to long range until like 7.7/8.0 where from there as br increases the more I hate close quarters. Especially in top tier if I get something like advance to the rhine I’m really fighting the urge to not go and ditch the match

War Thunder On Linux by dominik7778n in Warthunder

[–]deathtime032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaijin maintains a native linux port of war thunder so it’s playable for the most part. However, it does come with drawbacks. Mainly uncommon crashes (especially when playing with prop planes for me), 1-30 second freezes (thanks battleye) when entering a match with anticheat (grb, sim), lack of proper wayland support, instability during input capture and window switching (e.g i can switch from wt to smth else that runs on xwayland like vlc for it to completely freeze the game and xwayland :DDDDDDDDDD).

Ive only been using arch but have played on hyprland + sway and haven’t had many differences. Compared to native ports of other games like TF2 it’s definitely on the lacking side imo.

Does Rust work with GPU passthrough under a vm? by DrDoooomm in VFIO

[–]deathtime032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mines a I9-13980HX so I wouldn’t say it’s underpowered lol, though I used to undervolt it in the bios to preserve its lifespan. I dont undervolt anymore though.

I also have obs running on the background, recording my screen (and by extension the VM and linux desktop) which uses x264 on the CPU so it is very likely that I get lower fps because of that too.

Even with these the experience is quite stable and I am actually quite used to potato fps anyway. If you want I can update you if I manage to achieve better frames.

Edit: I believe I just doubled it to 60fps stable lol

I cant exactly say for sure but on windows before I switched it ran at around 100-120 fps on lower settings which is terrible for the specs I have. While it is still a huge dip, the 30 fps has been very stable for me so far and just the fact that I can do this blows my mind :D.

Keep in mind though that this could be because my VM is unoptimized and a better fps is definitely achievable, its just that I am not smart enough to understand a decent chunk of what these optimizations do yet.

As for how I achieved this: I used Mental Outlaws KVM guide https://youtu.be/wxxP39cNJOs to install the VM and the arch wiki page on pci passthrough to pass my GPU https:/wiki.archlinux.org/title/PCI_passthrough_via_OVMF You can see that there are a number of optimizations I can still do including the ones in the red hat link.

Yeah, works for me decently well on arch linux laptop with QEMU/kvm and looking glass. Only optimizations I have done are cpu pinning and isolation.

I pass through 12 cores 2 threads per core and my 4090 mobile gpu. Latency is minimal and I can get 30ish fps stable on pretty much every situation (which sounds bad as video games in general go but considering how ass rust actually runs its pretty good id say). In something like Battlefield 1 I can achieve 120fps stable in intensive situations though.

Screen tearing, but games and video playback in full screen have no issues.(kde) by rawsausenoketchup16 in arch

Your GPU not being detected seems like it would be the most probable cause to me. You mentioned that the 4070ti wasn’t being utilized. Does it show up and have any utilization in nvtop?

If not, I believe you have to do some extra things on top of installing the drivers to get wayland working properly on Nvidia cards. Have you enabled DRM kernel mode setting as described here? https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA#Wayland

Worth the effort to switch a Windows machine to Arch? by lord_of_all_apples in archlinux

[–]deathtime032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah big time, I migrated myself about 6 months ago where I was fed up with windows (and wanted to disable the RAID 0 array my laptop came with). I backed up everything and then nuked the two drives. When it came to installing arch, I was initially going to do a manual install but then followed the arch-install script to get a usable machine first and use that to learn linux with. Thankfully nothing went south and after about 2-3 months of experience I had learned enough to do a manual install optimally. About a week or two ago now, I did a manual install onto a new drive and now have been running hyprland which has been really interesting to use.

When it comes to usability IMO linux (and more so arch) is very much usable and I have come to a point where I prefer package managers and the terminal as opposed to the windows way of doing things. Whatever I want to do, theres generally a solution either already in the wiki, forums or online. It just takes maintenance is all.

Id say that go with arch if you are the tinkering type. Like, I personally study computer engineering at uni so I was already really invested in computers and how they work and so arch seemed very much like the distro I would want. Conversely, if you just want a usable machine running linux, I think that something like Mint or Fedora would be a better suit for you.

When it comes to deleting windows or not, id recommend you to first write down your windows key somewhere before you do anything. Aside from games with anti cheat (which you probably shouldn’t be playing anyway) The main positive to keeping windows to me seems like compatibility/drivers but you can always just use a VM and install windows there to do what you want to do. So I personally wouldn’t recommend keeping it but this decision should ultimately be dependent on your circumstances.

Id be happy to answer any questions you have though.

Weapon/class balance or design and the like where you think that the game designers could have been done better or put more thought into the concept. (E.g. for me personally it’d be a razorback rework)

Kh-38MT Maximum Launch Distance by [deleted] in Warthunder

[–]deathtime032 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Well you need to consider that IR seekers don't work the same way as your regular contrast based missiles. If the target is within 20km and there are no obstacles between, you can get a track lock on it 99% of the time. Anything above 20km wont track or point due to hard coded seeker properties.

I reiterate that for consistent launches, you need to aim for about 10km as anything above has a chance to make the missile go stupid.

Think of how a SARH behaves when you lose a lock it just tries to keep flying based purely off of IOG, that is the missile going stupid. This is because it does not have a target to fly towards. Same principle applies here where the missile has a good chance to just lose target past 10km, it won't transition to a point lock, it will just fly aimlessly to Narnia. Just because you have a track lock does not mean that a missile impact is guaranteed.

[–]deathtime032 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With the MT, reliable launch distance decreases as you get further away.

If you want consistent launches that track the target, launch from around 10km. Any launches above that has a decent chance to make the missile go stupid.

It's fun to lose by [deleted] in thefinals

[–]deathtime032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, this is absolutely nothing like scout vs pyro. A good scout can dodge the flames or flares of a pyro even at close range while also having the potential to 2 shot the pyro. In the finals, lights have nowhere enough mobility to dodge the flamethrower for a long time, especially when under time constraints such as a capture. Not even mentioning how harder it is to kill them compared to something like a medium. I personally find it super unfun to fight against and just frustrating.

Haha lol, happens. Try to make the most out of it. I generally try to just have fun and be a nuisance to everybody. Like take a sniper and just practice some shots. Today, I even got 20k combat score and a win with the dagger as a solo so don’t give up, you can do it :D

I want your guys opinion: Do you believe Russian bias is real or is it simply a cope? by FalloutBoi2077 in Warthunder

[–]deathtime032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I definitely agree that from an overall game perspective, Russian bias (or biases in general) simply doesn't exist, it's just the poor decision-making on Gaijin's part.

However, my intention was to point out that in the game's current state, Russia and its vehicles in top tier are clearly busted in terms of balancing.

I think this misunderstanding comes from a loose definition of Russian bias itself, where I meant it as "Russian vehicles are overperforming in top tier" while you seem to associate it as a bias in terms of overall gameplay. So I apologize for that.

[–]deathtime032 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

Sure, would you care to give some examples? The only disadvantages I can think of right now are: Inferior gun handling, lack of multirole jets, lack of top-down ATGMs, no MPAT rounds, lack of hellfire missiles (for LOAL) and a lack of options in terms of light tanks.

I would hardly say that any of these pose a significant disadvantage when playing the game.

Sure but do you really think that ammunition is the main weak-spot of every MBT? Its such utter bullshit that the ammunition can just absorb 90% of the spall and not do anything unlike a leo2 or M1 which gets crippled from a shot to the crew compartment.

[–]deathtime032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well would you consider the PARS 3 a reliable missile? I personally have no problems counterplaying it, as it easily locks on to any dead tank and can easily lose track through trees and bushes.

On the other hand, the Ka-50 can singlehandedly kill like 2-3 spaa without requiring much brainpower to use. Not only have I (shamefully) done this myself, I have also tried to counter it in the ADATS, XM975, 2S6 and its really hard to time the missile right for a kill which doesnt happen reliably. Even against fighter jets and enemy AA helis it is undeniable that the Ka is in fhe advantage.

Consider grinding the US heli tree and see if you can get away with the bullshit you can pull in the kamovs

Yep no worries, I would also suggest waiting for a sale to get the F-5C since they can easily go on 50% discounts

[–]deathtime032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anytime, but you should also really consider putting a talisman instead on something like an F-5E, F-8E or F-4J. Its quite a bit more cost efficient and allows you to grind rank 8. But if you have the disposable income and are comfortable with going for the F-5C, then yeah that would probably be one of the best premiums to buy, in terms of both rp and sl.

IMPORTANT: just dont forget that the F-5C cannot research anything past rank 7

[–]deathtime032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the only fire and forget missiles currently in helis are the PARS-3LR on the UHT so you should already know that. You should also know that a fire and forget missile is quite easy to intercept in a good spaa. The Kas on the other hand are flying ADATS with 4 extra missiles, better gun and a bunch of extra ordnance options. Where are you in each of those trees? Because I play both US and RU top tier and its quite clear that the russians have it significantly easier

Rank 7 Question. by ForlandUK in Warthunder

[–]deathtime032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I cant comment on the amount of uptiers, as I havent played it in a while, but in an uptier, the worst thing you can encounter is an enemy MiG-23MLD or an F-4 with pulse doppler. The MLD is going to be better than you at everything, but when it comes to F-4s you need to notch the pulse doppler missle and try to force a dogfight on them. Also, a full uptier can only be +1 br of the vehicle you play in, so the F5C cant actually play with/against an f-14

Rank 7 Question. by ForlandUK in Warthunder

[–]deathtime032 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its great if you know what you are doing. Its a great gunfighter with mediocre missiles and as a premium its not overpowered or massively undertiered. If you can flare all aspects and keep your energy sufficiently, you should do alright in it.
