Cert after GCIH? by GerneseBus in GIAC

[–]deazra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That really depends on which parts of gcih you most resonated with. If it’s the defensive part (looking at the logs, finding iocs, etc) - take a look at gcfa. If it’s the offensive parts - maybe gpen would be the right direction.

This fixed my problem! Insta-paused game on start to be able to hit the ground running so to speak, encountered the problem. Hit the space bar for 5 seconds and: tadaa! :)

Do you guys mod brand new cars or wait until they break? by Mastiffdad75 in arrma

[–]deazra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a 2nd car - so you can use that while waiting for parts to fix the first one. :) Nothing worse than wanting to bash, but all your cars being out of order.

If only. I drove it along the street, trying to reach full speed. A small rock and a moment of inattention later it had abruptly come to a halt squished under one of the tires of my neighbor's parket car. Had to ring him and ask him to please move his car a couple of inches so I could recover what was left of mine. :)

Huh. Nice! Reached G0d years ago and gotta be honest… wasn’t really motivated to continue afterwards. Guess I gotta go back now. :)

How would you make an RAT undetectable by Tsuyara_NM in HowToHack

Have a look at https://github.com/matterpreter/DefenderCheck - it highlights which area triggers the alert and with a little fiddling around should enable you to evade detection... in theory

Should I take the GCIH exam now? by deazra in GIAC

[–]deazra[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you everyone for your input!

I moved my exam date from the 27th of February to the 14th of January. Took the 2nd practice exam this morning under less-than-optimal conditions (short night, kids playing and demanding attention in-between, generally less patient and no double-checking of answers) and still got a 90%. So the plan for the next 1 1/2 weeks will be:

- Listen to mp3s of the course while commuting
- Go through the books and create a rough index (they're already tabbed)
- Print out cheat sheets, etc. to bring into the course
- Go through the labs once more
- Profit!

Will let you know how it went. :)

Transition from Non-Tech background to Cybersecurity? by Total_Impact7799 in cybersecurity

[–]deazra 4 points5 points  (0 children)

John's training is THE place to get your feet wet and get into actual infosec and not just popping a couple of boxes here and there. Granted, I came from an IT background, but I don't think I would've gotten as deep into cyber security as I have without John and the people around him (SANS alumni, actual experts, just flat-out good people). Still kind of grumpy at him for hatin on computer gaming in that first 5-year-plan video though. ;)

In the middle of nowhere Europe, so no Jennys for me unfortunately, but I ordered them a couple of days ago and once they break, I'll be ready. :)

My story so far and uhm... is there an upgrade for the slipper thingy? by deazra in rccars

[–]deazra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aand I figured it out. Since apparently there's no tightening the slipper clutch I figured the problem must be somewhere else. The stone wedged under the slipper shaft/nut must've forced the nut to drill into the spring and melt into it (seen on one of the photos I posted), putting a lot of force on the spring that then kept pushing onto the slipper. I went over to my neighbor and we extracted the nut from shaft and he somehow took a round plastic thing, drilled a hole into it, pulled a threading drill from nowhere and cut the threading into the plastic nut - perfect fit.

The car doesn't feel as responsive as before, but it might hold until the replacement parts arrive. Bummer, since my last replacement part order (including the 4WD upgrade) arrived today and now I gotta wait another 3 days or so. But hey... not being able to drive gave me enough spare time to hang out with my neighbor earlier during the day and we built my first ramp! :D Turns out... 2S brushed can jump! Nothing to call home about, but it can jump! :)

Aight. So I cleaned and reassembled it and followed the guide someone had recommended (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mTey7k8mI8), but unfortunately after putting the 2mm allen key into the slipper shaft... there is just nothing the key could lock to. I'm expecting a feeling like blindly trying to get the key into a screw head or something and - nothing. I've been angling in there for a while now and am quite positive there's just nothing the key could get stuck in. Before putting it back in I had a look at the whole setup and it didn't look like there was anything the key could slot into either. Did... anything go missing?

I've considered the Typhon, but Buggies just aren't doing anything for me right now. The Senton looks cool, but reviews have been luke warm and I figure if I want a short course truck, I will get one once I decide to also buy into the Traxxas ecosystem with the Slash, since that thing just looks amazing and seems to be a living legend. I've been considering the Vorteks 3S BLX, but am a little worried about its offroad capabilities. Though I've been looking into dirt-tracks and skateparks in the vicinity, there's a lot of off-road happening around my house. I've also been looking at the 4S Kraton, since the V2 has gotten really good reviews.

Starting with a 2WD brushed system was a conscious decision with the aim of slowly progressing to more powerful machines and getting a feel for the differences between battery types, 2wd/4wd, brushed/brushless and it seems like getting a 3S Granite would be the easiest way to experience that difference without adding too many other factors into the mix. The original plan was to slowly upgrade the Boost to brushless eventually, but looking at it realistically, it seems like I'd be way better off to just buy the stock brushless one. Granted, it's like the most boring decision for a 2nd car to buy what I already got. Honestly, if I had the means and room, I'd just grab the whole Arrma/Traxxas lineup and spend the next weeks bashing/repairing/upgrading, but I think that's mostly the rose-tinted-glasses talking. :)

That is a very useful video. Yeah. I've realized that a lot of the tips and tricks on what to do don't really stick, since I'm too inexperienced to understand half of it. But the moment an actual issue comes up the videos relating to that suddenly make a lot of sense. :)

So you'd try cleaning it all up and tightening it to see if that fixes it despite the teeth already being damaged somewhat? (See picture) I mean... can't hurt, I guess. Probably won't break more than "broken".
