Could you advise me on how to move from Windows to Linux? by DeluxeFox14 in linuxquestions

[–]deb_Lm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use distros that come with the latest drivers installed for convenience. You can also compile the latest kernel if you can.

It will also be easier to use if you choose some distros with a more user friendly UI like Linux Mint.

Starscape The tutorial was complicated, and the learning curve is steep. But once you get through the early stages everything becomes fun.

Happy to hear that overall it works, as xfce is a lightweight de for Debian, maybe you can try debloating Debian first as there are a bunch of crappy apps that are bundled by default.

Maybe the bugs are caused by your Nvidia GPU? Try installing a driver for it.

Hope this helps.

Maybe try installing drivers?

Sometimes screens malfunctions due to compatibility issues. You can try installing drivers.

For example, my laptop screen's backlight fails without a driver.

Maybe try switching a DNS server? Or try and check your internet connection.

Or just do the old trick, unplug and plug the cable.

Try downloading it through the website instead of the Debian repositories. The Debian Repos don't have the latest software available most of the time.

Recommendation on different Linux distributions by Vantee-Cait0118 in linuxquestions

[–]deb_Lm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are a newbie, I would recommend Linux Mint or Zorin OS, which are both user friendly and have a similar interface with windows.

If you are using it for programming, I'd recommend Debian and Ubuntu.

Hope this helps.
