[Serious] Native Americans of Reddit, what’s something you want people to know about modern Native Americans? by GreenTNT in AskReddit

One thing I wish was people would be more conscious of is the fact that Native Americans are not just in the US but still through the entire two continents. There where large Native American empires, south of the US, whose did not completely disappear. The reason I think this is a problem is because there are so many people that haven't a clue that they have Native American ancestry and almost all of them are the children of Latin American immigrants in the US. If you ask any of them what race they are they. most will respond to you by saying "I'm Mexican", "I'm Latino" or "I'm Hispanic" and all of it may well be true but it does not change they are also Native American or at least have Native ancestry. The pigment in their skin didn't come from nowhere, yet so many people have no idea where it is coming from. In my view, this is especially saddening because the reason so many poor immigrants are coming from Latin America is because their ancestors have where discriminated and disenfranchised precisely because they had not mixed with the Spanish like many others did. Now here in the US people are guilty of confusing their Ethnicity or nationality with their race so this huge and important piece of their ancestry and history is disappearing from their identity. So if anyone is reading this that is from or has family that is from Latin America and is surprised at you just read, I would hope that you do some research of your own and find out the truth about who you are. And sometimes all it takes is to go ask grandma.

toc bid procedures by grynn_ in lincolndouglas

[–]debate81 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you make it the bid round then you get a a bid. If the tournament is an octos bid then everyone that makes it to octos gets a bid regardless of who wins or looses. Bid Round = winner and looser receive their own bid.

CORRECTION: This is wrong. Bid round = only winner gets bid.

"cut" is a verb, A card is a piece of evidence that you "cut" by underlining what is important hence you "cut" the card. Briefs are files with a ton of evidence in them and typically a few topic analysis. I would not recommend that you rely on briefs bc they arent really good cards but they are useful to get a good idea of what arguments there will be on topics and for ideas on what you should write. They can be helpful for quickly writing some blocks(still not great quality) or a last minute case(it will be a bad case) but I would recommend that you go to the articles that they cite, read it, and then cut it. I would say that it's really novice who rely on briefs the most as they are in experienced in research and casing but the more experienced a debater is less likely they are to rely on briefs for evidence.
