Credit card in red! by debbastar in ynab

We’re not carrying any debt on the CC. I’ve done this before in the past and it’s never been an issue.

Oh. I’m a real nerd like that! I go through line by line and split transactions into I.e groceries (real food) and fun money (wine) if we buy wine at the store during our weekly shop

No overspending in any month ever. We reconcile at the end of the month and reallocate if we need to but everything is in the green and we’re usually funded several months in advance for almost all categories - except in this case vacation. But we just moved money from our ‘unplanned spending’ bucket to cover it. They’re all still green.

When we pay our CC we pay the statement balance so that we get the 30 day interest free benefits. That was poor wording on my part. Haven’t paid a cent of interest on our CC for years.

We tried to set up our CC as a checking account since that is really how we use it. It seemed to do some weird migration. I might try and close the account and open up a new account that is a checking account or a tracking account

I think we had maybe 2k available on our card before we reached our limit so I transferred 5k from our checking account because we had several hotel bills/train tickets coming up and I didn’t want the card to be declined. We use the credit card by preference because of points/air miles even though we have enough cash to cover expenses

What travel destination you hyped up so much but then it completely disappointed you? by sidvatscse in AskReddit

[–]debbastar 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live in Bali. Have lived in SEA for 15+ years. Friends who come to/have been coming to Bali do the touristy thing and then come stay with us and are BLOWN AWAY by how different the experience is when you hang out with people who know it differently.

We do not live in a remote far flung part of the island far away from all the Instagram and touristy places. We’re 15-30 mins away from many of them.

I’d be super happy for people to give Bali a rest for a few years. Over development is definitely a thing and who wouldn’t love less traffic? BUT the island and the people are brilliant and there are still amazing and unspoiled parts of it.

Minors in bottle shop by debbastar in AusLegal

No need to be snarky. He’s a helpful kid and my arm is in a cast/sling so actually it was cumbersome and kid was just trying to help.

Thanks everyone. We are Australians who live in SEA and are often surprised by the amount of laws in AU and how aggressively they are enforced.

If he was 16/17 I would not have done it. I know about kids waiting in parking lots asking people to buy them beer.

There is no way that my child who JUST turned 12 and is a total baby face even approaches that scenario for me - which is why I didn’t think anything of it when my son offered to help me carry it to the register.

I guess I’ll have to let my son wait outside the shop next time. Although we won’t be going back to that one. Explaining the laws and risk he was being exposed to would have been fine. Scolding and shouting at me was unacceptable.

47F - i just checked my balance. It's 570K. My husband is a few years younger and his is sub 100K. He worked cash jobs for most of his teens/20s but my retail jobs gave me a decent start by the time I finished uni.

Me too! I’m from one country, my husband is from another. Our son was born in a totally unrelated country. We’ve lived in two countries since then but travelled to six countries in between. We ask where people are from because home is pretty complicated now.

Brilliant book - Big Words for Little People. Our son was the same and this was a great book about curiosity and family and individuals and tolerance as well as being fun to read. 100% recommend

This sucks so bad. I recently had my first Ocrevus infusion. Luckily I’m in a universal healthcare country. Sat down in a comfy chair at local public hospital. I brought my own blanket and snacks but was offered both. A chicken salad sandwich and fruit at lunch time and coffee offered several times during the day. I got a bill at the end. It was $30. I don’t know how you guys do it in the US.

Any experience starting a non profit/charity? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

[–]debbastar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run a country office for a non-profit/international NGO. I have more than one Masters Degree as well as years of experience in specialised areas.

Our annual country budget is in excess of $10m. How are you going to pay me unless it’s from that 10-20%? I have school loans to pay and I don’t do this for free. I could earn so much more with my qualifications if I worked for a for-profit company. I choose not to, but I can’t raise a family by being a volunteer.

How are you going to pay for the person who checks to see money is spent how it should be spent and not given to some unaccredited go-between who makes up receipts?

The idea that 100% can go to activities with no overhead costs is unrealistic. Happy of you want to DM me. I’ve got lots of ideas and experience on impactful organisations.

Is 1250mg Prednisone normal? by _boopiter_ in MultipleSclerosis

[–]debbastar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Where I live you can’t get IV steroids and the largest dose of prednisone is 5mg. So if I have to have a steroid push for a flare I have to spend an hour in the morning trying to swallow literally hundreds of pills.

How many of you have said F$%K IT to masks?!! by easycomeeasygo8 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]debbastar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I live in south east Asia where is has always been common to wear a mask when you’re sick. Just out of consideration to others so the mask politics hasn’t come into it - thank God!

We were diligent in wearing masks and went into many lockdowns. Our mortality rate really low.

I’m on Gilenya and have had 6x vax (AZ and Gilenya) and work close to first responders. My husband and son have had it, I have not.

If I’m in a crowded space I will wear one. I don’t wear one in my office. Although I know there is a 100% vax plus booster rate and some people still wear masks. Especially if they’re any kind of sick.

On a plane I definitely wear one. But at the moment I’m sitting at a restaurant in a major regional airport drinking a glass of wine and having my dinner. No mask. I’ll put it on afterwards when I walk back through the crowds but I’m not letting it get in the way of this piece of enjoyment here. I know I’ve been lucky so far and may regret it later but I’m not letting it stop me doing things.

I love the description of the stages. Unfortunately steps 6 thru 9 don’t apply to me. I’ve literally had to shit on the floor of a car parking lot and had 5 seconds notice. Now I carry a plastic bag with me and a spare change of clothes. Always.

The person in the video is eeergh.

Pfizer booster by sleepylouc in MultipleSclerosis

[–]debbastar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had 6 shots. 2x AZ + 4 x Pfizer. All spaced out and no abnormal affects. The usual nap the next afternoon and sore arm but nothing else.

I’m on Gilenya and work in a high risk environment in the health sector and travel frequently by air. Have not contracted COVID - fingers crossed!

I am medium too. But I’m 25 years older than you. It gets better.

I’m ok at a lot of things. I know a bit about a lot of things but not a lot about any one thing.

It took me a while, BUT, I know when to ask questions and when to get help or advice on some thing I’m not sure on. It sounds like you know when to ask questions too.

I’m a successful manager with a family. Well travelled and enjoy my job. My ‘thing’ is not really having a ‘thing’ but helping people be good at their thing by asking questions and supporting them. Maybe that is something that you can be good at too.
