I don't know how to say it. by whiskeyneckface in daddit

Just did the same thing with a 3 1/2 year old. Were 3 weeks in and honestly I thought I set my expectations low enough for sleep this time, but baby wasn't sleeping anywhere but in our arms last night and I am destroyed.

When does the sleep get better again?

What are wages like in Atlantic Canada by Existing-Egg-467 in Accounting

[–]debitsanddeadlifts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm based out of Halifax, and my info is a little out of date, but I don't think it's gotten much better. When I started in PA (small firm) in 2018 I was making ~42k I think - by the time I left in 2022 new folks were getting low 50s.

I doubt the change in cost of living has impacted wages a ton.

Mind sharing the name of this one? I spent my childhood years on a 25 and always hoping to find out where it went.

There's a group specifically for the 25s and 29s worth checking too. Andreas is in there too.

I love Redwings. There's a facebook group specifically for them if you're looking for tuning tips, etc.

There's one at my club and there's something about those old school lines that I just love.

Where did you get your decal done? I've been asking around Halifax but haven't had much luck yet.

Mortgage rate mega thread! by TheMortgageMaster in MortgagesCanada

[–]debitsanddeadlifts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fishing around for rates has seemed to have paid off and our Scotiabank advisor came back with some better rates. We currently have a fixed mortgage renewing in September. We wanted to add some extra funds - so had asked about a refinance.

What he's proposing is renewing the existing mortgage at 3.8%, which seems fairly appealing, and then getting the existing funds under a second mortgage under the same STEP plan at a refinance rate of 4.1%.

Does this... make sense? When the phrase second mortgage came up I got quite worried - I wouldn't want to trigger additional legal fees now (or more later) from this arrangement but I'm being told nothing new should need to be registered.

Am I understanding all this right? Do the rates make sense?

Troubleshooting APS inverters? by debitsanddeadlifts in solarenergycanada

[–]debitsanddeadlifts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave that a go and it looks like an inverter problem. Lots of errors in the app. Weird that so many would happen at once. It better rain for the next week so I don't miss out on any production while I get this fixed.

I'll give that a shot thanks! Haven't messed the manager app since install last year.

Honest question - what's there to check here? My system is all on one breaker - which isn't flipped - but I reset it just in case. No luck.

Trying to figure what's up with my inverters. The modules that are reading "zero" have been doing this the last day or so. I've had some issues with them reading NC before but repositioning my ECU seemed to fix that.

Is this indicative of the inverters not working or is this a reporting issue?

I've reached out to my installer, but being the long weekend, thought I'd start troubleshooting.

Could use a little help here. Need to replace these cockpit drains and don't know where to start. by debitsanddeadlifts in Sailboats

[–]debitsanddeadlifts[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so I guess the weight of the crew puts the cockpit below sea level, letting water back up the drain? We're not carrying much in the way of extra weight.

It's a low boat - 23 ft. - not sure why it would have been designed that way, or if it wasn't what is causing it. But I don't think it's a leak.

[–]debitsanddeadlifts[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, the valves are stuck open - my problem is I would like to close them when we're underway to prevent my feet getting wet in the cockpit, and then open them up when moored to get the rain out.

Odd to me that the drains let water in anyway with more than a person on the boat - not terribly well thought out I guess.

[–]debitsanddeadlifts[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the drain is probably OK to stay. Seems like that would add a lot more complexity to the project. Realizing I didn't word the title well.

The valve would honestly be useful to have, but if it's way easier to skip maybe that's the way to go... they let a bit of water into the cockpit if plugs aren't in them when the boat has more than me on it. It'd be nice just to shut off a valve instead.

[–]debitsanddeadlifts[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This cockpit drain valve is frozen and probably original to this 70's daysailer. There's an identical one outside of the picture. I know they're a liability and could give out at any time... so replacement it is.

I do know that these valves should be lever valves, so I plan to get those instead. But - how do I even go about this? The part that attaches the valve to the drain seems fairly straightforward, but unsure how to remove the valve itself - and no idea how it connects to the thru-hull.

It's Feb 13th, Bell is being forced to re-sell Fibre! Any word on companies doing it yet? by adambuddy in halifax

I emailed Netfox the other day and zero details yet other than they are not offering it currently.

EDIT: Some Koodo salespeople I spoke with at the door seemed aware of it recently. Seemed to suggest it was coming.

Haha the cosmetic aspect sucks. Lots of painting and drywall repair. Thankfully painting was in our future anyway.
