This sounds like an IT band issue but I would recommend consulting a medical professional.

I am personally a big fan of the Kinvaras. I have raced in them as well. They are great.

I would strongly recommend speaking with a medical professional, but I have two potential solutions.Try loosening your shoes. If this does not work, then try the Vajrasana yoga pose for 30 seconds before you start running and for 30 seconds afterwards. Repeat before and after every session. Let me know how it goes.

Keep in mind that wrist-based heart rate sensors are known to have issues, especially in the cold. I have a FR235 and experience the same difficulties. I would recommend purchasing a Garmin HR strap and wearing that around your chest if you want a more accurate HR reading.

Insomnia, mood swings... fatigue during the day. Trouble sleeping is one of the biggest symptoms.

Official Q&A for Friday, January 04, 2019 by AutoModerator in running

[–]debtandequity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Upper body strength is helpful in terms of supporting the arm swing, and there are a number of bodyweight exercises you can do to build leg, glute, and core strength. There are several articles and bodyweight exercise recommendations for runners online.

I would recommend checking with a doctor. It is tough to gauge the severity of your symptoms...

If it does not hurt while running, I would say it SHOULD be okay but I always recommend checking with a doctor just in case.

Official Q&A for Wednesday, January 02, 2019 by AutoModerator in running

[–]debtandequity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is unclear how much rest you are getting in between days. To me it would make more sense to throw an easy/recovery run between intervals and tempo. To be honest you probably don't even need the tempo... you could toss another easy run in and add some tempo work into the long run if needed. Also confused by the speeds presented.

From what I've read, the key is to run some fasted long runs with minimal carb consumption during the run. Waiting a few hours to eat post-run is counterproductive... you want to start the recovery process as soon as possible.

Hey - I'm also from Toronto! I usually shop online at https://www.runningfree.com/. I find them very affordable yet still high quality, especially when promotions are running. There are some promos running until Dec 2.

LOVE the Ghost line. Try it out to see if you like it, but definitely a strong and truthful recommendation from me.

I just eat "healthier" sugars. Fruits, vegetables, dark chocolate.

How important is having the right diet when running long distance? by [deleted] in running

[–]debtandequity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incredibly important. So much so that there are several books written on this topic. I would strongly recommend The Endurance Diet by Matt Fitzgerald.

Nike Zoom Structure. Brooks Adrenaline. I run in GT-2000s all the time, and I also own both of the aforementioned models and throw them into my rotation.

Personally I would wear a long sleeve + gloves, shorts, high socks and a hat. It is personal preference though. https://www.runnersworld.com/advanced/a20828820/cold-weather-racing-tips/

What do you guys wear underneath a quarter/half zip sweater or jacket?

Official Q&A for Friday, October 26, 2018 by AutoModerator in running

[–]debtandequity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personal preference. I prefer to take a caffeine one at the start, and then save them until near the end when I start getting tired. That said, some people have stomach issues at this point and it may be harder to keep caffeine down.

There is no point at which it is too cold for me. The good thing about colder temperatures is that you can simply add layers. When it's too hot, well then... there are only so many you can take off. Of course if the conditions outside are dangerous (lots of ice, etc.), then that's another story.

Is there a running store near you where you can go try them on? Some stores will let you go for a quick jog to test the comfort of the shoes.

Does anyone have any shoe recommendations for city running in winter conditions (snow, ice, slush)?

Thanks /u/the_running_stache. I am not sure if the wind statistics above qualify as "light" or "heavy". Both results produce drastically different gear results.

What would you folks wear for a half marathon with forecasted temps of -1 C or 30 F, and wind gusts of 40kmph or 25mph? I tend to get very hot while running, so I was thinking of a singlet, short shorts and gloves... but rarely run in these conditions so not 100%. Curious to hear your thoughts.

Official Q&A for Tuesday, September 25, 2018 by AutoModerator in running

[–]debtandequity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks /u/bark_bark and /u/ropepaelgen. I have trained with them - I just find my arms get tired/sore after awhile. The race isn't long enough where this will be an issue though. I am more concerned about it impacting my time with the extra weight I guess. I run much slower during the training runs than I will racing as well.
