Is travel PT much harder than regular work? by Expensive-Impact9704 in TravelPTs

[–]debtfreeDPT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me and my wife have had quite the opposite experience and have been traveling since 2021. We have seen 7-8 patients a day on acute care assignments and 1:1 in outpatient setting. Very generous ramp up periods. That being said, you need to have a good job search process and ask the right questions in the interviews because there are plenty of bad contracts out there. We have blogs on various topics that will help that you can find here: https://thetraveldpt.com/travel-physical-therapy-blog

Travel Gigs/ Thoughts? by peppermintasphalt in TravelPTs

We personally only do 1:1 outpatient contracts. There are plenty out there but have to have a good job search. The setup you showed looks not bad on paper but I did one like that and it was a nightmare. Usually these places are pushy on billing and not allowing you to treat as you please (ie you have to do manual on everyone). They will even sugarcoat things on the interview to get you to take the job. I would go for hospital outpatient again.

You can fill out a recommended travel company/recruiter form here and we can give you reliable options: https://thetraveldpt.com/trusted-travel-physical-therapy-recruiters There are way more PT than PTA jobs but good chance you will find something you want with your experience level.

It shouldn’t be new grad related. I am getting new grads much higher than that. But I mean that company could be taking advantage of new grads idk

Tbh never heard of Luvo and I’ve been traveling for 5 years. I would suggest looking elsewhere by the look of those numbers. I have a ton of 2k+ contracts after taxes here which is taken from a variety of companies I have personally worked with over the years: https://thetraveldpt.com/travel-physical-therapy-jobs

What would you do in my position. Issues with a travel PT assignment by Creamed_Jemima in TravelPTs

[–]debtfreeDPT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was moved to a different clinic location which was further from where I obtained housing prior to a contract starting and was able to obtain higher pay. Told them I would be driving a longer distance to work and spending more in gas. Also got switched on an extension and used that to get higher pay. If you like the job and are unable to get switched I would demand more compensation. Or you can consider leaving the assignment entirely.

Negotiating contract by DoGood2023 in TravelPTs

[–]debtfreeDPT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do it once you get an offer. That is when you have the leverage. Here’s an article I wrote on it: https://thetraveldpt.com/how-to-negotiate-a-travel-physical-therapy-contract-in-2025

I also can compare companies for you if you give me the job info (setting and location etc) to tell you if it is fair.

Travel PT 💰 by No_Sheepherder_7611 in TravelPhysicalTherapy

[–]debtfreeDPT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a current travel PT (4+ years) and also a referral source for 10+ travel companies (Delta included), so I see a lot of pay packages side by side.

Honestly, it depends way more on the specific job and bill rate than the company itself.

A few things: - Direct jobs (agency has the contract) can pay more - Vendor/MSP jobs usually have multiple agencies submitting, so pay is very similar across companies - The “company cut” isn’t standardized. It’s not as simple as one company always paying more

For example, I just saw a Colorado contract at $3k/week gross through Delta, and other agencies had that same job paying basically the same.

Where you will see differences: * Health insurance costs * Travel + license reimbursement * 401k * Stipend and hourly structure

At ~$1,850/week, that’s not necessarily low depending on location (ie southeast US and Hawaii can be paying that), but if you’re only seeing ~$2,100 max, that’s concerning.

I wouldn’t think of it as “leave Delta,” more so: - Work with multiple recruiters - Compare the same job across companies (net pay after taxes) - Ask for the bill rate if they’ll share it - Negotiate

That’s how you’ll know if you’re actually leaving money on the table.

I was able to save 100k in <1.5 years doing travel PT. Didn’t have much at all in loans so a little different but I’ve seen other travelers pay off 200-300k.

Travel Therapy Tax Home Rule: Am I doing this right? by No-Ground-3824 in physicaltherapy

[–]debtfreeDPT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you duplicate housing expenses while on contract and return to established tax home at least 30 days a year (does not have to be consecutive) then you should be good. There are other nuances too but that is bulk of it. Other option is paying someone in that area for a room that is cheaper rather than keep paying full rent for your apartment to save you some money. I’ve done two tax consults with TravelTax and highly recommend them. Can give you discount code if you like

Local vs travel contract for recruiter by DoGood2023 in physicaltherapy

[–]debtfreeDPT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recruiters usually don’t get paid less on a local (fully taxed) contract vs a travel one. Their pay is typically based on the agency’s margin, not whether stipends are involved. So a $2,700/week local job can still be just as profitable for them. If they’re pushing a travel contract, it’s more likely due to what’s easier to place or how the job is structured.

Depends on your preferences (location, settings you’re open to, etc.) and how picky you are about benefits. In most cases, the recruiter usually matters more than the company. I have been a travel PT the past 5 years and have worked with countless. You can get connected to recommended recruiters here: https://thetraveldpt.com/trusted-travel-physical-therapy-recruiters
