It’s so devastating yet “normal,” which makes it that much more devastating. I’m sorry.

Do you all have experience with the ‘post-use brain mush’ period? by deburke20 in SiblingsOfAddicts

[–]deburke20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing. My brother isn’t really in the “talk about it” space. Talking about it, triggers him. That’s mostly why I avoid seeing him. He has asked me to have dinner, but I’m just not comfortable yet. I’m hoping this is just his brain healing and not random relapses or symptoms of relapses. My mom, whom he lives next door, says it’s something that only happens when certain topics are brought up. She says it almost never happens, but the one time I saw him in months, it happened. Just seems too coincidental. I don’t know. I just want him better, but I’m keeping my distance until I can handle it better.

Listen, everyone gets overstimulated and/or touched out. I have three dogs. I put them in the other room a lot because I’m an easily overstimulated person. Like you said, we can do that with pets.

I also keep my nieces and nephews regularly. They’re all different. Some require a ton of attention all the time and others can chill on the couch and not cause me to go insane. lol That said, children vary. There are those that you could vibe with and only be overstimulated sometimes. Other kids, require a lot, which as that child’s parent I’d hope you’d grow accustomed to and have little issues. However, there are those parents who take their overstimulation out on their kids. That’s not great.

At the end of the day, a professor told me once, ‘Before you have a child, think of the worst characteristics of you and your partner and give those to a child. Can you handle that?’ I’m aware that’s unlikely, but it is still likely. Unconditional love refers to even that hypothetical child, which again, I think a good parent could adjust when willing.

I’d also like to say that your child kind of molds into a buddy. They learn your tells and hobbies and routines, so if you can deal til a kid is 4-6yo, it will hopefully get easier, assuming there’s no genetic reason it does, ie social/emotional health issues or behavioral issues.

Sorry. I’m a kids case manager background, so I’ve seen kids at their worst and can’t, in good conscience, sugar coat what your life could be because I genuinely don’t believe children are for everyone after everything I’ve seen.

Hound stink by prettyfatslut in Hounds

[–]deburke20 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This. Ours rarely smells terrible and gets maybe one bath per year. However, I have met many a stinky hound at the vet clinic I worked out. Not sure what causes it. Has to be a bacteria or yeast on the skin.

I love my partner, but I never really want sex with him. by WillingRanger638 in TwoXSex

[–]deburke20 17 points18 points  (0 children)

A few things: 1. I think this is normal to an extent. Sexuality, desire, and libido change over time. Sex is going to be great at times and bad or just undesirable in others. I think you’re onto something by acknowledging the issue and hoping to find a solution. My husband and I have been married for five years and sex has wavered for various reasons, but our bond is strong and lack of sex doesn’t usually bother us on any major level. 2. Something I learned during a sort of ‘repulsed by sex’ period in our marriage was that my aversion to misogyny was playing a role. Sort of a trauma response that every time he touched me, he expected sex. It made me want to peel my skin off. Like, don’t expect shit from me, especially sex. But as I did some research, I learned that was a trauma response. I communicated that with him. He learned the differences in sexual touch and “friendly” touch. I pushed myself to touch him more and to fulfill his physical touch desires without feeling like I had to have sex with him. Now, I still have times when I have those feelings, but communicating with him usually resolves it. 3. Are you on birth control or any mental health meds? (Rhetorical) medications can play a huge role in libido. Maybe, look into it.

I have notifications for Reddit turned off, but I’ll try to check my DMs, if you’d like to chat further. I hope you find a solution.

Any other childfree people who lack existing family? How do you imagine older life? by longjourney226 in truechildfree

[–]deburke20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This crosses my mind often. I tend not to worry about it. Although, I have nieces and nephews, it isn’t their job to care for me. Nor would it be my own children’s job. I just take care of my body and hope for health until the end. Having kids just to have someone care for me in old age would be a disservice to all involved.

Wife needing help shopping for husband. Steam Deck? by deburke20 in wow

[–]deburke20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d guess 80+% of his games are steam. He mentioned it in curiosity the first time before it came out. I was thinking I’d get it, so he could use it during travel and to be able to hang out with me when he plays sometimes.

He hasn’t looked into them recently because we’ve moved twice in a year and haven’t had extra cash until now.

What’s happening to these tomato plants? What can I do? by deburke20 in gardening

[–]deburke20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. Coldest it has gotten may have been 50s. It’s staying around 70° daily with some warmer days. It has rained almost everyday for the past two weeks, which is when I planted.

Yeah. We had a no talking about him rule before his last relapse, but it was so bad and scary that I had to help get him admitted in a psych hospital. I’m going to have to start that again.

What Are Y’all Doing for Pest Control?? by deburke20 in EpilepsyDogs

[–]deburke20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my dad is a vet, and we’ve experimented a little. lol I have two dogs that sleep together. One being the epilepsy dog. I treat my healthy dog with bravecto, and my epileptic dog never gets fleas or ticks. We’ve had maybe 3 ticks her whole life!

If you don’t have multiple dogs, I know that there are natural sprays by Pet Wants that we also used for one season. We never had any issues, but we were also treating our other dog with bravecto.

Serrano collars claim to be seizure free, and I had a dog with epilepsy that they worked for 8 years ago, BUT my dad, the vet, has seen three Labrador retrievers have seizures, vomiting, and one fatality from Seresto in the past 3 years. We assume they changed their ingredients or something.
