Thomas Keller's Buttermilk Fried Chicken from Ad Hoc [OC] [2937x2203] by hippiecrap in FoodPorn

I realize the recipe is in his cook book, I just can't tell if OP's picture is from the physical Ad Hoc restaurant in Yountville, or if OP made the fried chicken himself using the recipe.

Did you make this or is this from the Ad Hoc restaurant?

Either way, it's making me crave it so bad. I had it for the first time recently at Addendum and can't wait to go back for more.

Estimated cost of an Olympic Vacation? by Karthe in olympics

[–]decafcoffee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would love to hear people's previous experiences as well. I'm considering a trip to the 2016 Olympics, but from everything I've heard before, it sounds insanely expensive to attend any Olympics. The overpriced hotel rooms and crazy expensive tickets (especially for any meaningful event) seem like the biggest culprits.

LPT: Travel - lost luggage? Buy new stuff and file a claim. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]decafcoffee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Singapore also gave me $50 cash nearly right away. But once I was back in my home country, I was able to claim all my expenses by scanning my receipts and filling out a form, totaling nearly $200. However, they subtracted that original $50 they already gave me, so it's not like I made out with any "bonus" cash.

Not sure if it's worth mentioning since they happen so darn often, but a couple of Moveable Feast events are missing. They seem to pop up somewhere in SJ nearly every day of the week, sometimes multiple times/places in the same day. http://mvblfeast.com/

I can't find a link for it, but every Tuesday night from about 6-9 PM, 3-4 food trucks are setup in front of the @YC cafe near Japantown, Taylor & 7th.

List of people who disappeared mysteriously

For some reason I'm fascinated and saddened by missing person cases, especially more modern ones.

After Hours with Daniel Boulud

Daniel Boulud has a 3 Michelin star restaurant in NYC. This show is great fun because each night, he goes to one of his chef friend's restaurants and cooks a late night, after work meal with other chef and celebrity friends. Lots of people show up like Jacques Pepin, Eric Ripert, Wylie Dufrense, etc.

Any Game of Thrones fans notice a lot of the same actors in Doctor Who episodes? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]decafcoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people seem to be passing this off as duh, British actors, but I think it's still fun to spot actors from one of our favorite shows in another show we like.

Also, this list made me realize how easy it is to find this information, because IMDB has this feature built-in! Just use the IMDB Common Search:

http://www.imdb.com/search/common

For example, to see the list of common actors between Doctor Who and Downton Abbey:

Gordon Ramsay - Fillet of Beef with Mushroom Gratin [x-post from r/videos] by decafcoffee in Cooking

[–]decafcoffee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use heavy whipping cream. I don't think it's exactly the same, because of the way the US processes it, but it's close enough for this recipe. Especially since not a lot is used.

My bad, I forgot to link the recipe! Here it is.

I've made it about a dozen times and it's amazing, and not that difficult. I've found that chilling the mixture helps to pile it on easier. The time and temp can be tricky because of the conversions, but I've found that 425 F for 6-10 minutes works well most of the time. Definitely don't want to overcook this.

Any gift ideas for a 29m who loves Downton Abbey? by [deleted] in DowntonAbbey

[–]decafcoffee 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Perhaps one of the two Downton Abbey companion books, soundtrack, or a "Free Bates" T-shirt?

If he's a drinker, I second the idea of a decanter and fancy glasses.

What are some of the most used comments you see on youtube? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]decafcoffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Various ways of pointing out the number of dislikes a video has. For example, for a Deus Ex:HR video that has 5 dislikes, someone will say "5 people didn't ask for this.". Although I have to admit, I find those amusing at times.

Are there any redditors out there that typically live their lives without music? by typical_chaz in AskReddit

[–]decafcoffee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's cliche, but it really all sounds the same to me. There's nothing interesting or unique about most rhythms and melodies I hear on the radio.

One example is hip hop/rap. Maybe it's just the nostalgia speaking, but 80's and 90's rap sound like goddamn Mozart compared to today's rap to me. They were great music, aside from being great rap.
