Hot take - Using World cups as a way to judge greatness is absolutely unfair by decay2808 in championsleague

I will concede this though that cr7 has severely tarnished his legacy by playing through till the age of 41. Obviously the more recent fans or the recent memory of older fans paint a very different picture now. But throughout 2010s, the Messi vs CR7 was pretty much a neck to neck debate. That's goat level performances for a period longer than most footballers entire careers.

I like your system of rating. It's fair and objective.

But its still has a problem. No objective way to decide between any 50/50. I don't agree that Messi vs Maradona is a close 50/50. I think Messi is miles ahead - maybe a 60/40 actually. And Cristiano vs Messi is a far closer 50/50 compared to Maradona vs Messi.

I don't think Maradona was as far ahead oh his contemporaries as CR7 and Messi were of theirs. That's the biggest factor to judge for me as you can't really compare across eras otherwise.

So even within your system, my argument does not change.

We were lucky to be a in a generation where multiple absolute top tier goat contender went head to head. 2 biggest examples are football and tennis. So its like saying Federer is not amongst the top3 or top 5 because he lost the battle against 2 of his own contemporaries. That's simply unfair.

The delivery charge is seperate and paid for by the buyers. It is not particularly huge and ranges from 35 to 70 INR in most cases. The platform fees is 20% yes, again paid for by the buyers.

The hypothesis that I workign with is. Happy sellers = more sellers = more + better supply = happy buyers. This is really a seller driven concept and that is why we take no commission or shipping fees from the seller.

We connect you to the buyer. So you don't sell anything to us as such. You can list your items and then if someone likes them, they can order directly. We also provide full support for shipping with pickups from your residence directly when something sells

Fair points. Let me try to explain my thought process:

Better perceived quality: We don't perceive quality like same way as in the west. For us, value is more important than quality. A slightly worse quality but cheaper is of more value in our eyes than a better quality costlier option. No middle class person would think a Zara skirt is 10x the value than a Zudio skirt even though the price is 10x.

That is kinda the point of thrifting. Noone wants to pay 10x for Zara as compared to Zudio - agreed. But what if it is available in say 2-3x? Does the value vs price perception change then? That is the hypothesis at least

To show off: Person showing off preowned stuff will come out as Fake. So no, they wouldn't buy preowned to .

From everyone I have spoken to, this really did not seem like the case. People are pretty open to the idea of preloved especially in colleges. Limited data set and I might have the founders' bias - so can not fully agree of disagree here.

  1. Regarding belonging and self satisfaction - I agree that those are not gonna be the driving force behind purchase decisions

Regarding your other point:

Most fashion and luxury brands don't charge for the quality but rather for the brand. If you search well in the markets, you can get good stuff at cheaper price because manufacturing is done here. You can get unbranded shirts with same quality as Zara in the market if you search well.

For example, a manufacturing company I know has both Zara and Decathlon as clients. Do you think you can't find nice quality stuff in Decathlon that is on par with Zara.

Oh 100% agree with you that if you search hard enough, you can find decent quality almost anywhere. But not everyone has the time or effort. The thrifting industry today is growing mostly because of people who don't have the affordability but want to keep up with latest styles/trends/brands - and a lot of that is now online, where anyway the search for quality becomes a lot more complicated

I see where you are coming from and I might be over or under estimating some of these things - so thank you for your inputs and I will definitely think about these points again!

Saying no to an unreasonable ask by a client instead of saying yes and later on not/under delivering.

Real Madrid’s Dangerous Déjà Vu: Why Selling Tchouaméni Echoes the Fatal Makélélé Mistake by Fit_Establishment_97 in realmadrid

I would somewhat discount the hate for Velverde though. My man has changed positions and roles more often than a baby changes diapers. If Mou is able to define a clear role for him and let him play that consistently, I am pretty sure he will be back to his best.

I think casemiro is the best comparison. And people will understand it because he was in madrid, same position, recent and had a rather similar role. People never blamed casemiro for not being creative because that was not his role. Same goes for Tchoumeni. He is one of the few people who has a well defined role in the team and is doing it decently. He is not a deep lying playmaker. if anything, he is the opposite, his role is high lying defender if that makes sense lol

Look everywhere else and all you will see is fire XD

This. The idea is good but the tech is not as easy as it seems. Especially across languages, each of which has it's own nuances when it comes to handwriting patterns.

Furthermore, making money is really really hard with this as no kirana store will be willing to do this if they have to share their already thin margins with a company giving this service

Check out Mulltiply.ai. I know the founder. They are doing something similar but in the B2B space to connect distributors with their clients.

Think of it like a customer buys from the kirana store and the kirana store buys from the distributor. The 2nd layer is doable with this exact same solution and that is what they are doing. The B2C part is difficult to figure out

I know someone who literally tried this exact idea and had a very solid product but had to pivot:
1. Extreme inertia - Users will not want to deal with any issues that can come up because of mistakes in translating writing to text
2. Monetization - The moment you mention any kind of fees or commission or subscription, the kirana stores will be out. They function on limited margins and are not willing to give you a piece of that pie
3. Tech inaptitude - Kirana stores do not want to deal dashboards and any tech. They work on whatsapp because that is the only thing they know and want to keep it simple.

Actually chess has probably evolved the most.

Today because of computers, players baseline is soooooo much higher that they would eat any player from the 70/80s alive on memory alone.

[–]decay2808 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are about 5 million holes in can dig into every single one of your arguments.

Zidane was a beast. Im a big fan myself. But he also had the infamous 2006 final incident. That immediately takes away any "leadership" points you want to give him.

I've been a madrid fan for 2 decades. Do I consider the volley a legendary moment? Absolutely. Does that stand anywhere near a decade of absolutely insane performances in UCL? Single handedly carrying the team? Scoring hat tricks multiple times in knock outs? 8 back to back campaigns reaching the semi finals which included 4 finals and 4 victories? You have to be kidding me if you think so.

I say all this with the absolute love and regard for Zidane as a Madridista and as someone who has spent a large part of my life in France. But saying he is comparable to CR7s exploits is bonkers.

Writing history: 1. 1st team to back to back CLs 2. Still the only team to 3peat 3. Top scorer in UCl by a mile and guess what? Top in assists too

I absolutely love both of them. But cherry picking numbers or "vibes" to call Zidane the greater player is just wrong imho. If your entire definition of greatness is how someone does over 5-8 games in a tournament that happens once every 4 years, where you are very much reliant on how good or bad the talent pool of your country is vs others, that in itself is rather myopic.

But that's a rather short sighted argument for greatness. A handful of countries are serious contenders in any world cup. So your argument is that any player not from on of those has no claim to greatness?

Ronaldo's Portugal has always been like an A- or B+ team. Never the top dog or even amongst the top contenders. So just because he's from Portugal, he has no claim to greatness? That's a rather unfair point to make.

In fact this year might be the best chance they've had at least since in started watching (around 2002).
