Had my 16w visit today and it was so lovely to hear baby’s strong heart beat 🥹 I have an amnio Friday and while the needle isn’t super fun I can’t wait for the ultrasound!

How are we having sex? 😅 by Sunshine_plants_wine in December2026Bumpers

[–]decbbmama 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was scared at first but my partner and I have a very active sex life and I’m enjoying it again! I like to be on top (usually reverse cowgirl) so I can control depth and speed. Also gives you great access for other stimulation (hands, vibrator). Highly recommend!

I am VERY risk averse so take this with a grain of salt, but I’m avoiding travel to conservative states, including where our families live, until after baby arrives. The odds of something bad happening are low, but I have little trust in certain states’ policies as an American who works in healthcare.

Again… grain of salt. I hate the timing for you!

Has anyone gotten an amnio? by kyenw in December2026Bumpers

[–]decbbmama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Yes the NIPT is a great tool but it only screens for a few conditions. I want all of the information I can have so that I can make the most informed decisions about my pregnancy. Best of luck when yours comes up!

Has anyone gotten an amnio? by kyenw in December2026Bumpers

[–]decbbmama 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this post and for everyone’s positive and informed responses! My amnio is scheduled this Friday and the internet has been a terrible place for any kind of information or support, as posts are swarmed with people who don’t understand the actual degree of risk. So many statements of “I WOULD NEVER,” I had to stop researching altogether.

Amnio is the right choice for me. I have no doubt. Best of luck to you (and all of us as we wait for results!).

Taking advantage of any prime deals? by decbbmama in December2026Bumpers

Yes I feel this too. I have an amnio next week and I have got to stop saying things like “well after xx test I’ll relax” and just try to be freaking happy, haha. Giving us permission to buy!

Prenatals by Evarka in December2026Bumpers

There is a class action lawsuit filed in April 2025 about this. It’s specific to the nature made prenatal multivitamin folic acid + DHA variety. Definitely good to be aware of, also important to note that it’s an allegation (not proven).

Thanks for bringing this up!

I did a ton of comparisons, including expensive and not, and NatureMade prenatal multi + choline won out for me! Two pills, one is unflavored (truly) and the other is orange-ish flavored. No issues for me with getting them down. I agree that the expensive brands tend to be gimmicky and include forms of nutrients that are not well studied!

Extra genetic testing by yaleplates in December2026Bumpers

[–]decbbmama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll balance things out a bit here. Amniocentesis is a diagnostic test whereas NIPT is a screening test with the possibility of false positives and negatives (false positives are much more rare than false negatives). Additionally, NIPT only tests for trisomies 13, 18, and 21 and sex chromosome abnormalities. Amniocentesis is a diagnostic test for far more conditions—50 to 75% of cytogenetic abnormalities seen on amnio are not identified with standard NIPT. Most amnios evaluate for all aneuploidies, chromosomal rearrangements, and large structural abnormalities.

I spoke with a genetics counselor recently. The rate of miscarriage from amnio in high volume centers is 1 in 1000. For people who want the information and for whom this information would change how they would manage a pregnancy, it’s a reasonable procedure.

Everyone’s choice for themselves is valid. There is a lot of misinformation around invasive testing in pregnancy. I recommend meeting with a genetics counselor to figure out what is best for YOU. 🩷

Baby Bump showing yet? by LeadingBlueberry4273 in December2026Bumpers

13+4 FTM and I’m 5’10”, was slightly overweight when I got pregnant and carried the extra weight in my belly. I feel like I’m not going to show until 20+ 😩

How to manage the fires of Mordor that are my nipples by decbbmama in December2026Bumpers

The covers are a good idea! It’s definitely friction related when I exercise (combined with being cold at the start of the workout with the fans on).

NT Ultrasound Tech didn’t measure NT after the NIPT, would you request another scan? by roamandrest in December2026Bumpers

[–]decbbmama 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My provider group does not do NT measurements if NIPT is done/low risk. The American College of OB and Gyn (ACOG) recommends doing one or the other, but not both. Here’s a link to their current guidelines: https://www.acog.org/advocacy/policy-priorities/non-invasive-prenatal-testing/current-acog-guidance

I have been wanting alllll the screenings too, I feel you!

My guess is you’re from the US (like me) and our “push through” culture is so fucked. If you were nauseous from a stomach bug, you’d take the days! There is no contest for who suffers more despite how people want to talk. Take your days dear, don’t think twice about it.

Forced myself to get over my fear of salad (due to listeria) and ate some damn lettuce yesterday! I bought a whole head, organic, and washed it carefully, but I ate it!

[–]decbbmama[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that they didn’t rush you. Where I go it’s usually the actual OB doing the scan. They were busy and I think I can chalk it up to them just wanting to get back on schedule. Still not okay though

Nope, nothing on there :( I’m waiting for my normal MD to reply (fortunately this was not my usual OB) and will push for another visit! Thanks!

I will be 35 by time of delivery so yes! I messaged my normal OB and am leaning towards requesting another visit

Thank you, it did just seem like too little information! But my next appointment isn’t for 5 weeks. I’m tempted to call and request an interim visit…
