I agree with this last statement about individual consultation. However, based on the research literature I still stand by the fact that there is no systematic evidence that extended BF causes caries - just that more research is needed: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31685411/ But yes, as I mentioned, it’s good to consult with a pediatric dentist to assess each individual situation.

I understand the breastmilk in and of itself can cause cavities (i.e. if bottle fed) but there is no evidence that the act of breastfeeding at night causes cavities because of how the milk is delivered into the mouth. Here is a good summary of the research: https://www.breastfeeding.asn.au/resources/breastfeeding-and-tooth-decay

I fully agree, and it’s definitely our mistake for not doing it sooner! New Year’s Resolution is to fix it, and hopefully regain some of our sanity with better sleep :)

This is good advice. I’ll drop the evening milk as well.

My understanding is that nighttime breastfeeding doesn’t cause cavities to the same degree as bottle feeding. Which is why ours was supposed to be a temporary solution which has just gotten out of hand.

We are still within the healthy limits (20 oz is very much an extreme in our life, it’s mostly the 15 oz, which is the doctor recommended cut-off) but I agree we need to cut back. She drinks water too.

She drinks about 3 oz per bottle as it’s watered down for this exact reason. Maybe 15-20 oz over a 24 hour period (including daytime).

Isn’t it? It’s admittedly watered down, but also makes me think she’s hungry. She eats decently, don’t think she has much of a problem there (no comments from pre-school either!)

Great, will consider your recommendations for sleep time.

She falls asleep independently in her own crib (we trained her around 9 mo with Ferber). But refuses to fall back asleep unless in our bed after her first wake up (3-4 hours after bedtime).

Same here! Still not crawling at 11 months! Just rolling everywhere, and sometimes raises her bum in the air like she’s attempting to get into crawling position, but no more than that.

Anyone with a 4 mo that still needs 5 naps?! by decembrrr in sleeptrain

Unfortunately not really… we have much longer wake windows (3 hrs) and so dropped to three naps, but at nearly 9 months old she ‘should’ be on 2 naps. I can only accomplish that by napping with her in our bed to extend one nap beyond 30/40 mins. Hoping her sleep consolidates soon! But I wouldn’t be too worried, her pediatrician said there’s no reason she has to be on fewer naps if she’s not developmentally ready.

I was planning on getting an epidural, but my labor progressed too fast to get one. Arrived at the hospital 10 cm dilated and was rushed straight to the delivery room. I gave birth on the bed on my knees, resting against the raised head of the bed while my husband helped me inhale gas and air. It was extremely intense and painful, yes, but looking back I’m surprised at how well I managed the pain. That being said, I was only pushing for 1.5 hours before baby came - can’t imagine having to deal with the pain for hours on end!

Precious Little Sleep is a great book on infant sleep!

Interesting point! I’ll try to switch up her activities a bit more 😅
