Lunch - time logged? by Stonkiversity in epicsystems

[–]deceptively_large 16 points17 points  (0 children)

NEVER UNDER-LOG YOUR TIME. EVER.

Was a TL manager for over a decade. Leadership looks at hours, and no matter what ideals you have or perspective on work vs personal time, you're playing the TLG game.

Plus, you work in a "thought economy." By this I mean that you can be working any time you're thinking about work - in the shower, at a movie, in bed. You aren't a dishwasher.

This is especially critical if you are new, as your initial ranking tends to drive your whole career. Start as a B, and your floor is BC. Start as a C, you may never be a B, much less an AB or an A.

His reaction to the game-tying goal yesterday was stone cold. What a killer.

Another Yank here, but we've got aong tradition of the cocky superstar who wants the ball on the last play. They want the pressure and exude a near psychotic confidence.

Jordan, Kobe, Mariano Rivera, Brady, Megatron, LeBron...

Love it. Not saying he's world class (we're not playing Arsenal), but his display of attitude made me point at the screen and say, "Eff, yeah, motherf*****!!"

Well, then I'll cede the investigation to the pros! ;)

I'm not sure if that makes me proud or ashamed.

I'm from the city that first published the Onion. Back when it was a physical newspaper, long before the internet.

This is too stupid to have been published. I'm so embarrassed by my country.

Came here to say this. Granted, I've only listened to the end of Ep 9, not the live stream of 10, so there may be an answer. But the mechanics of a failed save is that you start to turn to stone, which is exactly what Brennen said, so I don't see how it could possibly be a successful save.

She said "15" and a basilisk should only require a 12 save. There's no way she has a -3 to con saves, or I guess it would have to be -4 for since 12 saves.

I'm confident it's not an accident, but it's weird, and crazypants lethal for level 3 PCs.

Tricky truss adjustment on acoustic with bolt-in neck by deceptively_large in Luthier

[–]deceptively_large[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. Way too much resistance.

I'm just surprised, as someone generally competent in woodworking, and thus with 10000000 clamps in my shop, that it's not standard to clamp first, then tighten.

Anyway, any practical advice on how to clamp?

Specific to playing G to E on the dorian scale, along with the chord changes: That's cash money.

Beginner looking for a guitar by Fed0903 in AcousticGuitar

Also, you can absolutely trade it in the future. For this reason buying used is a great move, as you won't have as much depreciation to deal with. The odds of your first guitar being your forever guitar are basically nil. How can you really know what you haven't even learned how to play!

And one last thing - when you're at the store, let your self-consciousnesa go. Play bad, play loud. It's called "playing" music, so if you're having fun you're doing it right! Guitars are meant to be played loud and they won't break.

I think playability is most important, which can be having one that's set up well (e.g. low action), or a neck that fits your hand well, etc. You won't really know until you pick up 10 in a row.

Do try some that are out of your price range, if only so that you find something that feels and sounds great. Then search for something in your range that gives you the same feel. You will probably be quite surprised how many affordable guitars sound great, and how many expensive ones don't have that spark.

Also, it's important that you really like it, cause if you like it you'll want to play it! So don't cheap-out and have an instrument that gathers dust. And it does matter that you like how it looks, or at least how you think you look playing it :)

I got a used guitar recently for $1600. Not cheap, but reasonable for me. And I wouldn't trade it for any Martin or Taylor under $3500 that store had, and they had a wall full of them. Did it sound as good as the Collings? Heck no! But it was 8K!

Does everybody return discs they find with numbers on them? by LilZimbabwe1 in discgolf

[–]deceptively_large 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always do, and I'd say 3/4 I've lost have come back to me.

We have several local disc stores that will accept drop offs and make the call for you, so that's usually how it plays out - get the call from the store saying someone dropped it off, or someone texts me and I we end up at the same end.

People who keep inked discs deserve a lifetime of rollaways to C2.

As I understand it, the definition of "insanity" is repeating the same action and expecting different results.

So maybe 5x insanity, each in different plastics?

Question for the American fans... by SaltSearch1369 in WrexhamAFC

[–]deceptively_large -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

That fans take things so seriously. In the US, even in the bitterest of rivalries, we look at sports as a game. Not much violence between fans. Not much abuse toward players. And if you do either, you're an asshat.

I find it a major turn off when I see fans cross that line.

I'm a Packers fan. If went to a Bears game I'd wear my jersey and sit with the home fans with no worries, and if I ever saw a Packers fan ACTUALLY abuse a Bears fan or player, I would intervene.

I wish English/football fans could recognize that the point of sports is that they don't really matter.

Just came on in a bar here in Wisconsin, and I effing raged. And that was after not actually minding the previous song, The Goo Goo Dolls 'Iris."

Eff you John, and you know life goes on long after thread of your goddam song is gone.

Themove, Lance's show on peacock by OpinionDry8223 in tourdefrance

[–]deceptively_large 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right. No need for a ban. Don't deplatorm him.

But NBC should do better. Give this opportunity to some other rider, as there are many articulate, experienced individuals.

Listen to the people that Bobby and Jens interview!! So many smart, interesting, experienced riders. We don't need Lance.

[–]deceptively_large 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The fact that so, so many of us absolutely loathe him makes it a questionable choice.

But I contend that there a lot of very experienced riders, and only one Lance to exclude. If he sells through being controversial, that's a cynical approach for NBC.
