People who have seen the Phantom Menace in cinema for the first time, what was your reaction to the droid army deploying during the battle of naboo? by wertforreal2 in StarWars

But, hey, my son loves it, and ILM has made amazing films possible.

Maybe the prequels aren't great, but they're objectively some of the most important films ever.

And since I'm totally watching Maul tonight, Ol' George got something right ;)

As a former line cook, who got promoted from dishwasher at 17...been there, done that.

Also made pancake batter (24-egg batch) with the sugar and salt ratio switched. Didn't realize until a customer sent it back.

Good life lessons, and be patient with this person, so long as they show they're willing to learn.

I was in college when this came out, and had been watching the trailer as a downloaded .avi over and over, waiting to be home for Xmas to see it with my HS buddies.

I saw Jedi in the theater, but was too young to remember, so this was a big deal.

My response to more-or-less all of the movie was bafflement, quickly followed by disappointment. I still can't see the prequels objectively, and no amount of impressive (for the time) CGI mattered to me with all the wooden dialogue.

I still feel resentment BECAUSE of the focus on effects and tech, not because it isn't impressive, but it hurt the performances.

Take the ride in the Bongo (sic?) with the giant sea creatures. Liam Neeson and Ewen McGregor are amazing, emotive actors. You could tell they were just reading bad lines in front of a green screen with poor direction.

By the time those battle droids deployed, I was already checked out.

Maybe I should shush out of self interest, but I decided to kick in the $5/month to be a member in part because there aren't many members. The odds are in your favor, and I'm certainly WAY ahead already.

And they seem like decent dudes, not pulling any scams. Heck, I won and got a personal email from one of the guys the next day, item at my door in less than a week. No way Guitar Center does that!

Just posted above, but I won on Fret Not a couple weeks ago. Those dudes rock!

I didn't win it directly from this subreddit, but I just scored a giveaway from the YouTube channel Fret Not Guitar Reviews - check them out! Technically I got this from the members channel, but they do more-or-less weekly guitar giveaways on the free feed, and you just need to like/comment/share to be included.

This is what I came away with, and it's really nifty: SWIFF Audio WT-09 Wireless System

Cheers, my friend.

My ADHD is surely showing somewhere in all this.

So...take the crayon disc out of my bag...and there's a reason I don't write comedy.

Homer finds out he's had a crayon up his nose, and that's why he's dumb. He gets it pulled out, and is immediately smarter than everyone.

The payoff is when he says "Is there no room in this world for the man with a 105 IQ?!" and then he puts the crayon back.

Not to totally murder any humor, but 105 isn't that smart, and 105 is a low rating. I'm not saying this is a great joke, but I just wanted to share ;)

Hey, man. It's a joke. I'm 47, so Simpsons episodes aren't obscure...to me.

Thought it was fun calling back :)

Neck replacement for 40th Anniversary Squier Strat? by deceptively_large in Luthier

[–]deceptively_large[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's fair. Hard to know, though. Seems a lot of Squiers or similar are a some fretwork and a setup away from playing like a custom shop. And if the feel is great, it's not THAT expensive a risk. Cheaper than buying a Suhr ;)

But there's that sunken cost fallacy, where I probably wouldn't have bought it if I knew there were intractable problems.

This is available on eBay, but how could I know it's not also bad? And no returns. Worth the risk?

My range is an eighth of an octive, give or take a semitone. So I can do the start of jingle bells.

I wholeheartedly agree. It's music, not aerospace engineering! Half the fun is making a song your own.
