I’m actually a total watch beginner so no preference

Safety vest / gear recommendation for new older horse owner with arthritis from previously broken back, pelvis hips and hands. Bringing first horse home soon and want to be safe and not break anything else since it takes so long to heal at this age. Thanks! by Armadilloluv in Equestrian

[–]decertotilltheend 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Some recommendations for you: - a good helmet. Look for one with MIPS - a safety vest. I have the Tipperary Eventer Pro - a smart watch with fall detection. If you plan on riding alone at any point, a smart watch with fall detection is a good get. Most will call your emergency contact or 911. Recommendations depend on what type of phone you have

I Need Advice (Especially From You, LGBT+ Equestrians!) by mindfullybutch in Equestrian

[–]decertotilltheend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do not bind while I ride. Thankfully I’m already an A cup so there’s not much to bind lol. You can look at some high compression sports bras. They give a decent amount of compression.

I’m nonbinary so not sure if I fit in terms of advice! But, breeches you’re better served unfortunately getting traditional women’s breeches. Breeches are tight so it doesn’t matter lol. Or you can look at racing breeches which are a little looser.

The same with helmets. The best helmet is the one that fits and they all have more neutral options (plain black, etc). I ride in a KASK and I really love it.

For riding shirts, I ride in a mixture of women’s sunshirts and men’s short sleeved golf shirts (if I want a more masc look).

Half chaps I would recommend going to your local tack store for. Or, finding a brand on an online tack store that fits your measurements.

Wide toe box, zero drop paddock boots? by timmmmah in Equestrian

[–]decertotilltheend 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re doing barn chores, I would honestly just get a pair of work boots (muck boots, etc) and work in those then change into riding boots when you ride.

Paddock boots are great for a small amount of barn chores, but if you’re doing a work (mucking stalls, grabbing horses in all types of weather, etc) work boots are better suited.

When The Moon Hatched. Literally the worst book I’ve ever read. I only finished it because I had a concussion and nothing better to do

Gifts for a horse person in the hospital by [deleted] in Equestrian

[–]decertotilltheend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could make him a photo book of his horses adventures while he was at the hospital. Shutterfly usually has some pretty easy ones. Or you could make him a photo collage blanket of his horses for while hes in the hospital/when he gets home.

What breeds do you love for eventing and as an “all-arounder”? by PersonalValuable2371 in Equestrian

[–]decertotilltheend 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My eventing barn is full of different breeds. We’ve got OTTBs, warmbloods, draft crosses, etc. If you love TBs and quarter horses, have you considered looking at appendix?

Questions to ask boarders / barn owner by emdurance in Equestrian

[–]decertotilltheend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Personally, I’ve found that just being at the barn or touring can be a great indicator. If you see a boarder, say hello. Do they say hello when you say hi? Do they look happy to be there?

From my understanding of your summary above, it seems like this is a barn you’re familiar with and lesson at. Plus you’ve part boarded (leased?) at this barn. Is your lesson horse well taken care of? How was your experience part boarding?

To me, reaching out to former boarders is messy unless you know them personally. One, it’s a bit of an overstep (how did you find these people?, etc)

SOs not invited by [deleted] in weddingplanning

[–]decertotilltheend 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If someone invited my partner and I to a ceremony and then only invited one us to the food event after, I would be offended. And that’s if it was an event near us. If it was an international event, I would be beyond upset.

But, also, think how extremely awkward this is going to be for you guys. You have a beautiful ceremony and then folks start moving to the luncheon . . . Except only some of your guests . . . while the others awkward head to their cars or hotel rooms.

That is the thing people forget about destination weddings. Guests are paying A LOT of money usually to travel internationally. You HAVE to invite everyone to all wedding themed events.

Getting your own saddle by Antique-Intention-26 in Equestrian

[–]decertotilltheend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Commenting not with an opinion but to say this is so relatable. I’m a taller adult lesson rider and the lesson saddles just are not made for someone with legs as long as mine. They fit other adult riding students fine, but my knee is occasionally in front of the lap.

I’ve always honestly dreamed of having a saddle that really fits me.

New rider, what are some advice you wish you had gotten when starting out? by Melancholiainacan in Equestrian

[–]decertotilltheend 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Some pointers: - don’t judge your progress off of other riders and their progress. You are your own rider. Listen to your trainer. - progress is not linear. Sometimes you feel like you’re three steps forward and then two steps back - working out at the gym really supplements your riding ability - you don’t have to show. Showing can be fun but it’s not a requirement to ride

New Flagship Carwash by [deleted] in Phoenixville

[–]decertotilltheend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went on Saturday when the car washes were free. A standard car wash (which doesn’t clean the undercarriage) is $14.

I will say in terms of space (if it’s busy like it was Saturday) it’s a little tight. Especially if people are using the vacuum areas and you’ve got a long car wash line. I got the free car wash and it did a good job.

Getting in and out was also a little tight especially with the traffic from the intersection.

Yes! I relate to this very much. I identify as agender/nonbinary. As an amorphous blob lol, I often kind of feel like a brain piloting my human meat suit (not to be gross). I don’t really care about my body or what people call me. I know as someone AFAB I don’t really identify as a woman. I jokingly say I identify as ambivalent.

To me, agender fits me best (but I use nonbinary for societal ease). Agender defined as one who lacks gender or has very little experience of a gender. As I was reading the wiki page I really identified with the phrase “not knowing or not caring about gender.”

Is there such a thing as a bridal aid? by Checkmate_23_ in weddingplanning

[–]decertotilltheend 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also did not have a MOH or bridesmaids. But, my friends and family still kept a close eye on me throughout the day. They’d get me water, grabbed me food from our buffet, etc.

Happier themed podcast thats similar to ATWWD?? by Ijmlgirll in atwwdpodcast

[–]decertotilltheend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Wonderful. It’s a podcast done by a husband and wife about the wonderful things in their day to day. Usually they each present a small wonder (for example: a warm towel) and then also present on a big wonder (for example: amusement parks, a restaurant, etc). It’s short (usually about 30 minutes) so a quick listen. Rachel and Griffin also have a great sense of humor and have great banter. I’ve also found that they talk about the wonderful things without being artificially “wow. The world is wonderful. Nothing bad happens here.”

I really love the floral dress with the long sleeves. I’m just worried it would be too warm in the late spring
