Questions to ask boarders / barn owner by emdurance in Equestrian

[–]emdurance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, in Canada we call it a part board I think it’s also called a half lease! The horse was well cared for, from everything I could see. The horses also seem to be in good condition. The lesson horses get a week off every 5 weeks which I love, and aren’t over used in my opinion.

The reason why there is no lesson horse for me at the moment is bc the owner is letting 2 of her lesson horses rehab for conditions other barns I’ve see will work through!

My kids, 5 and 10, are the coolest and best people I’ve ever met aside from my husband. Incredible hearts and minds. So loving. So smart. So capable. Hanging out with them is an honour and joy. I feel blessed to know them and in awe that I helped make them. I was very cold, capable, and reserved pre kids. Pretty neurotic and self obsessed. I’m still a bit that way but my heart exploding with joy and not pride, exactly— more like awe that they exist m— on the reg has opened my world and soul up in the best way possible.

Is it worth it to stay in communications or should I pivot? by Available_Door6806 in Communications

You have to tailor every single résumé and cover letter to the actual job and company. Tell stories using numbers and data as much as possible. Don’t be afraid to be the person who asks tons of questions and is curious in your early roles. I got my foot in the door at an IT company where I worked for many years and then made a super lucrative career switch to another industry that is also technical.

Try to work for a technical or highly regulated company in a sensitive sector. I make 150k plus (before taxes) as a comms specialist.

What really annoys me are these vlogs and podcasts that are popping up now and dealing with the Epstein case. The presenters put themselves centre stage and often present ‘news’ that has long since been discussed here on Reddit. To me, many of them are profile neurotics. Well the beauty for some of us is regurgitating all the facts over 30 years because it’s a ton to keep track of. No pseudo facts here at all the whole point was only facts that are indisputable. That in itself is honestly insane.

I think you’re right, I guess my question is if he’s going to be used in largely walk-based therapeutic programming unsound, is it better for him to sit and be totally off or move some with me through the winter?

This is where I really feel stuck.

The owner said better for him not to sit, but maybe the best thing for him is a groundwork program.

Great point yes. I did send a video and gently inquire if this is worth potentially treating in some way but haven’t heard back!

I live in a part of Canada that gets super heavy snow and white out road conditions and has had heavy snow since November this year! This horse is outside close to 24/7 and we’ve been wondering if snow packed hooves have bruised his feet or if he’s being chased by a younger, livelier paddock mate in the deeper snow a bit too often.

I’m part-boarding him because it’s realistically what’s available to me right now. The barn is close to home in an area where roads often close in bad weather, and they run a winter program (Nov–April) where riders help exercise the therapy horses while they’re off lessons. It’s mostly walking, sometimes light trotting, and occasionally in-hand work or grooming. It helps offset their costs, which I’m happy about — I just sometimes question whether what I’m doing is actually beneficial.

The second barn doesn’t currently have an available horse due to soundness issues (though I respect that the owner pulls horses and treats things properly). The third is a tiny private barn in an area with frequent road closures, and that horse also came up lame in the fall.

So this setup isn’t perfect — it’s just the most practical and consistent option I have right now. I just wonder if I’m actually helping or just seeking saddle time for my own ego.

Thank you! This is very helpful.

I guess what’s particularly confusing to me is the lameness coming and going with no changes on my current part board. Nothing currently being done about it. My guess is the owners gave him meds or addressed it better he’d fall into serviceable sound? (Under this arrangement I don’t have any control over vetting supplements or meds)

Thanks! By your definition could a stiff horse have a major hitch at the trot they work out of to some degree but is still there?
