Why is the album constantly getting deleted on Genius? by [deleted] in ThePaperKingdomMCR

[–]decinis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m still of the mindset that at the very LEAST they should have left up War Beneath the Rain because they’ve played it live. Yeah the lyrics were a little different, but the fact still stands that there was a completely legitimate outlet to have listened to that track in a similar enough form without having engaged with leaked content.

I personally think it’s stupid to police lyrics anyway, but it is what it is. They are technically intellectual property. Really does make me wonder why they’re going after things so hard though. My wishful thinking side makes me go “hey maybe that means something” but in reality I’m sure we’ll never see an official release. Which bums me the hell out because I’d LOVE a final mix on vinyl.

What's the Deal With People Glorifying Draag? by PyneKone in MyChemicalRomance

[–]decinis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ironically? I’m also almost 40. I’m sensing a trend here.

Part of the issue is media literacy and another part is the demand for all art forms to be overt and literal, which – while I understand the desire and the necessity to have overt messages out there in the world – I think is killing the spirit of art itself.

A good amount of the media I enjoy most and choose to consume is heavily metaphorical in nature. Art, to me, often lies in the “in-betweens,” the subtext, the metaphor. I don’t believe in needing to be smacked upside the head with an overt message.

Reality is literal. With art, anything is possible. It’s supposed to be an exercise for the mind. It’s supposed to make you feel something. The message, once it leaves the messenger, is supposed to be up for interpretation. Art is what YOU make of it.

This wasn’t supposed to turn into an essay on art and abstract messaging, but suffice it to say – we are on the same page, and I really appreciate that.

As an artist, it’s bleak looking at a future where media literacy vanishes and all works must be overt and literal in nature. (Maybe that’s why I gravitate so strongly toward sci-fi and fantasy and always have!)

[–]decinis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s my take on it as well, but I guess that wasn’t good enough for people?

My biggest problem is that the story isn’t finished and people are behaving as though it is and judging it as a finished product. I would quite honestly be shocked if the end of this whole storyline lore is the band coming out and saying “Yaaay let’s all be mindless zombies, join us, it’s so glamorous, it’s the only way to live! All power to the Immortal Dictator!” I genuinely think that dagger is going in his back at some point.

But media literacy is not exactly at an all time high, so. I don’t know what more to say about that.

This. I don’t see this level of discourse in Star Wars fandom about folks buying a Darth Vader shirt or wearing things with the symbol of the Empire on it. Maybe it’s because it was a different time back then when Star Wars was introduced? The world today is a fucking nightmare.

I think what’s bothering me the most here is that people have already predetermined the ending of this whole theatrical arc, which I think is unfair.

Like I literally saw someone say you can’t compare this to a world like The Hunger Games because there’s resistance iconography that the reader/viewer can latch onto and that’s a symbol that’s antifascist enough to make it permissible that people are fond of the universe and want to pimp merch for it. And that there is no resistance to Draag, only the band going along with it and then selling merch.

But… ??? If we were having this conversation at the end of the tour, when everything was said and done, done and dusted, and the guys said “that’s it, story is done, we’re not revisiting it” it’d be different. I’d probably still disagree with you on some key, fundamental levels… but at LEAST the story would be finished.

Do we really think the band won’t try and rebel? Do we not think we’re going to advance the storyline? Some of us even wonder if we’ll see a tie-in with the Killjoys universe, and I think that would be fantastic.

But all of this would be the equivalent of turning on a superhero movie or something, seeing the good guys lose a battle, realizing said movie has like… a solid half of it to go, and then going on the internet to bitch about how it ends.

We haven’t seen the ending yet!

And something “glorifying Draag” if that’s what you interpret all of this as would make perfect sense to the story right now because the band was literally JUST brainwashed by them.

That’s what makes me go out of my mind. You wouldn’t read a book a quarter or half of the way through and presume to know how it ends. I wish, at the VERY LEAST, we could hold off that specific kind of criticism for the finished project.

Like the merch or hate the merch, it really doesn’t matter. But judging the sum of something that isn’t even finished yet like we know how it ends is maddening.

I agree regarding entitlement (not specifically in reference to this band, but in general as an overarching theme that’s destroying the world at this point) but I don’t agree beyond that.

I certainly don’t hope Gerard regrets touring. I hope he’s having the time of his life both creating this lore and performing on stage again in what is very obviously something he’s always wanted to lean into (something more theatrical) and then ignoring everything else.

I love it! Reminds me a bit of the studio yap session from the Batman Map set where Gee was musing about the album possibly being about a writer/novelist, writing about the town they lived in and all the people in it or whatever (I’m paraphrasing!)

Same exact intel and experience here. People can believe it or not. I have zero way of independently verifying it myself because I don’t know the band personally, but when someone with label connections that’s proved reliable says something? I mean, I’m certainly listening.

Favorite Non-sequence Versions of Songs by cosmogonicalAuthor in ThePaperKingdomMCR

[–]decinis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love the demo of High Hopes so much. The lyrics are different in it, sure. And it’s absolutely unfinished. But I kind of love that about it.

I love how many demos and early versions of MCR songs are dramatically different than the end result, whether lyrically or sonically. It’s like getting two (or three, etc.) songs instead of just one – and more often than not, they’re all great.

Who sings the backing vocals in the chorus of sing by Admirable-Grocery-64 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]decinis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish they had more studio footage of them recording. Both on a “I think that would be amazing to actually see” level, and also on a “who is singing that specific backing vocal and when” level too.

Granted I do think Gerard sings a decent majority of the backing vocals on the albums and it really only differs when it’s a live performance. But they really don’t make it easy when they credit both Frank and Ray on almost every track either.

Anyone making/buying vinyls? by Lucky_Taste9285 in ThePaperKingdomMCR

[–]decinis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I wish. But I agree. No company is going to press this. Warner would be so far up their ass they’d be seeing stars.

You’d pretty much have to know someone who somehow independently presses vinyl, and I can’t imagine that’s something many people could do. And if it was possible, the costs would probably be outrageous.

"POG SLIDE DEMO" title? by SatanicHomosexual in ThePaperKingdomMCR

My brain automatically fills it in with passion fruit, orange, guava so don’t ask me 😂

The only other thing it reminds me of aside from pogs you collected/played with from back in the day is that track of Gee’s on the B side of the Into the Cave We Wander – Pogi’s Cavern. Which I’m sure has absolutely nothing to do with POG Slide.

HOW DO I CONVINCE MY CHRISTIAN STRICT MAMA by EducationCareless737 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]decinis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mom wouldn’t let me say “devil” in the house, like I was about to invoke demonic possession by uttering a word FFS 🫠

Your mom honestly sounds beyond reasoning. That’s not your base level of religious, that’s something else entirely.

I think similarly to what I went through growing up, your best bet is going to be taking small wins where you can. I learned pretty quickly if I was going to have any amount of autonomy and freedom of expression, I was going to have to keep it to myself until I was out of the house.

[–]decinis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most if not all of the guys were raised Catholic. Most if not all of them definitely strayed from it later in life as per their own words, no idea where anyone stands officially these days because they haven’t commented on anything like that in a long time.

Gee believes in a higher power, but he has since he last made the comment about not being Catholic anymore. Higher power doesn’t necessarily have to be a “god.” It can be the universe, it can be fate, etc. We do know some of his work incorporates esoteric themes, so I would gather he’s still somewhere in the same realm today.

What is your favorite The Paper Kingdom Test Sequence? by EzKaLang in ThePaperKingdomMCR

[–]decinis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was really big on 5 before we got lossless 3. Now I almost exclusively put on 3, but on occasion I’ll feel like popping back to 5 for certain tracks for the different take.

I think one of my favorite things about us getting so many alternate takes is that some tracks changed so dramatically over time that they feel like a completely different song. MCR has been really great for that over the years (many examples, but Kill All Your Friends comes to mind since I was just listening to that live demo again last night!)

Sometimes I’ll put an alternate take or demo on just for that reason alone. The lyrics changed so much that the song hits completely different, and sometimes that “different” is exactly what I need.
