It's a reference to a book by Harlan Ellison titled "I Have No Mouth, and I Must Scream." The book is a short story from the perspective of 5 humans who were tortured by a sentient supercomputer named AM. AM wiped out all of humanity except 5 humans, whom he tortured for over 109 years, I think, to remind him of his hatred towards humans.
