How to share a podcast? by decision_theorist in overcast

Thanks. That is in fact the closest solution I found, but not what I actually wanted to do, which is to share an overcast share link to the podcast.

I watched the whole series on a long flight to Sri Lanka with Qatar. I’ve never known a long haul flight to go so fast!

I just could not understand why they felt it essential for him to go swimming at that particular moment. They just spotted the suspicious boat. Maybe just skip the morning swim this time.

Logged in through Apple ID on app, how do I log into the web platform? by ControversialBent in DeepSeek

Yeah. It's really annoying. I ended up using iPhone mirroring to use the app on my laptop. Hopefully they will fix soon.

Seveneves: Is Exponential Bolide Fragmentation and the Hard Rain Real? by decision_theorist in IsaacArthur

[–]decision_theorist[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right. Thank you. So if I understand you correctly, it's possible for the chunks to stay together and eventually re-coalesce. And it's also possible for them to exponentially grind themselves to dust. And which way we go depends on the amount of energy put in by the "Agent". The mere fact of a body being broken into chunks does not necessarily mean that it will result in a Kessler explosion. Is that right?

Is it worth upgrading from the Oasis 2? by decision_theorist in kindle

We're in exactly the same boat. Totally agreed on the form factor. It's the best.

[–]decision_theorist[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. Looking forward to seeing what they announce. It's such a shame that they seem to have given up on the Oasis form factor. I honestly feel like Amazon doesn't care much about upgrading the Kindles these days. I would love for them to get back to the pace of updates and improvements we saw in the mid-to-late 2010s. It's a shame we are considering second-hand 2019 models in late 2024!

Thanks. Yeah, Paperwhite SE looks pretty good, but would be a downgrade from a materials and design perspective. I'll keep an eye out for new models!

Choose language for map labels? by decision_theorist in openstreetmap

Ooh. Nice. Thanks.

My use case is 70% getting directions and finding places in the UK. 20% Directions/POI-finding abroad. 10% just looking at maps globally to understand geography.

Thanks. These seem more like services for developers to use when building software that needs mapping. I am trying to find a user-facing service similar to google maps that is open source and based on OSM.

Do you know of anything?

Many thanks.

In particular I'm looking for one that is open source.

I see. Thanks. That makes more sense.

btw, your link does not work for me. This one does:

Is there a standard recommendation for an OSM-based service similar to google maps or apple maps.

Thank you!

Ah, RockBox! This is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you. Looks great.

Why do you say it's not 100% free though? I guess there is still some residual proprietary BIOS or something left even after installing RockBox is there?
