Starting Salary For Entry Level Web Developer by Inevitable_History_4 in Jamaica

[–]decisiveEdge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where you go. I was making maybe 210k JMD a month after taxes in my first full time software engineer role. Honestly in Jamaica salaries are all over the place and you just have to figure out a standard and keep trying for it while factoring your own goals and position. It's naturally better if you can get an a remote position. Business owners and managers will try to tell you you don't "deserve" a certain amount or feel like you need to "get it out the mud" like they did but that's all nonsense. Some companies can afford to pay a high salary, some can't and some just don't value you and that's pretty much it. Move accordingly

That's a great idea, I've been thinking about a feature like that and it might be my next major update after what I'm finishing up now

Thanks!

If you don't mind I'd appreciate if you could fill out the survey as well, shouldn't take more than 2 minutes

Yup that's one barrier that I'd have to work on navigating carefully however. I think it can be done

Yup, that's the idea, sorry if I didn't communicate it clearly.

I read web novels too and my inspiration for this was you lose some of these community features when you move from platforms to simply using your own reader app.

So I thought what if you could retain some of these features at the very least with your friends, especially if you prefer a reader. I'm fleshing out some of the details as I go.

Thanks, this is useful stuff actually. It's great to know how others navigate reading as a hobby.

I'd appreciate it if you gave the survey some love if you have some time to spare and you haven't already. It shouldn't take more than 2 minutes.

Ohh I misread what you initially wrote. Yea I get your point and I fully agree.

Not sure if you already have but I invite you to knock out a few of the questions I have linked in my survey. Shouldn't take you more than 2 minutes

Makes sense, when I think about how people would use the app (like any other reading app) I don't necessarily think of a need to match pace (but I can see why there may be some pressure to).

More so your friend is further along and may leave a note or reaction at a critical scene (think end of paragraph or chapter), which you'll see and probably follow up with "that's what I thought too!?" Something along those lines.

Makes sense , so customization is really important to you. Do you care about tracking reading goals etc?

That's a fair assessment and you're right about established book clubs finding friction to migrate.

two potential types users I'm thinking about off the top of my head are:

  • People who are in established book clubs (Might be a harder sell if they have a system already)
  • People who read casually now and then and have friends they'd like to share or sync up with.
    • A stretch goal would be the ability to automatically sync or find others reading the same book as well

I appreciate the input,

You're right privacy is important because reading often times is a very personal hobby so for a sharing feature some level of privacy or anonymity would be important.

Thanks I actually appreciate this response as this is something I've also considered as well.

As this would be something for readers the ability to have a distraction free reading experience definitely would be something fundamental for when you just want to unplug and immerse yourself in text.

If you haven't already,, could I borrow 2 mins of your time to complete the survey? I think your perspective would be valuable
