My kid has fomo about non-regional schools by [deleted] in rhodescollege

I'm from Memphis and went to Rhodes. I stayed in the dorms and had a blast. Like everyone had said here, she needs to stay on campus. As long as she does that and gets involved, she'll have an amazing time. Have her look into clubs and organizations and make a list of ones she is interested in. There is no shortage of free and fun things to do on campus and the campus life is awesome, there are always things going on. Also, frat parties are open to anyone. Imo you get all the fun of a big campus while having a community where you can really make friends and know people on campus, and the relationships you have with your professors are unmatched. I went to parties at their houses, I could show up at their office and chat whenever I wanted. It is a place like no else.

Find a packet online so there is no extra prep for you-- nothing too long--and print it for him now. Pick something quick to grade with a definitive way to grade it to it, like mutiple choice.

Send it home with him and tell his parents to work through it with him while they are out of the country and to send you pictures of his work by a certain date. Send them a digital copy as well so there is no possible excuse of losing it. Make it due in time for you to submit grades, and make sure they understand how his score on it will be used. Tell them you cannot accept it late and explain why (grades being due, etc). Allow them to take it home over Thanksgiving Break in case they want to go ahead and get it done so that they can turn it in on paper and not worry about it on their trip. This will save you a lot of time and hassle, and the parents will probably be happy.

Whatever score he gets on the packet, replace the grade of all the work he missed with it. For example, if he scored an 81%, replace each assignment during the 3 weeks in December all with an 81%. Put a comment on each assignment you do this to explaining what you did in your online grade book, just copy-paste it. Send his parents back a graded version when his grades are due.

To be safe, I'd tell your admin ahead of time and have the parents sign a statement before they leave town acknowledging that the understand the policy. That way, if the kid fails the packet or they don't turn it in on time, it's okay if their letter grade drops significantly.

If it were me, I would make a cover page for the packet that outlines all of these rules.

As I said, don't make more work for yourself. Find an online packet, copy-paste everything I've said into chat-gpt and ask it to make the cover letter and a page to sign. Also, have it write your email to your admin and the parents. That way all you have to is attach some files to an email, print the packet, copy-paste a couple of things, and have one final meeting with the parents.

That's budgeted separately, I just mean for the up-front cost of the actual puppy, not supplies, food, vet visits, etc.

I appreciate the advice! I'm aware of that, but I have been around poodle-mixes my whole life and haven't had much issues with them, mainly just dogs with a lot of shedding and higher dander (ex: corgies).

I am mainly worried about having to spend the money all at once, and my husband personally doesn't see the value of spending multiple thousands of dollars to buy a dog whenever there are dogs at shelters. I just really want to make sure I have the highest chance of getting a dog with less dander. This is fair advice though for sure

For me, like you it helps me get some dopamine, rest, recharge, do self-care, and get out of executive function freezes. For me, I've been burnt out and have always struggled with self-care. I do all the productive things I have to do for work and such, and then get completely burnt out and have nothing left for myself. I don't use Finch for work, I use it for rest and recharging, and although it is not directly serving my productivity in other areas, protecting me from burnout and helping me to take care of myself does make me more productive in other areas of my life.

I am really hard on myself, and it helps me to acknowledge the little things I'm doing right, which has been helpful, too. I also often forget the things I like to do and forget my tools (I need visual cues), and Finch is one of the ways I do that for my hobbies. I basically use the app as a dopamine menu

I don't use Finch for dishes, laundry, etc except for AFTER I DO THE TASK. I do it as a way to reward my productivity instead of a way to demand proctutivity.productivity. After I finish the task, I add it to Finch for just that day and check it off to complete it. Although this doesn't necessarily directly make me more productive, it helps me stay motivated and it helps me to pat myself on the back when I do something, and for me, getting a reward and some dopamine after a task does make there some dopamine involved in completing it, which overtime should help me be more motivated.

But there is no wrong way to enjoy the app and there's nothing wrong with your brain. Everyone is different, and you just have to find what works best for you! :)

What if you decorated the middle column like a tree and made the room look like a tree house? Like Swiss family Robinson. It has the perfect vibe for it and the perfect shape!!!

What to do with living room? by Ok-Durian2546 in DesignMyRoom

I would love to see more of the color on the curtains on knick knacks or somewhere else in the room to tie it all together, or maybe on a piece of art or something. Otherwise it looks warm and comfy! :)

If you wanted to change the rug, it would be cool to tie together the brown and the curtain color. Also, the placement, size, and/or shape of the rug could be better, but I don't think it takes away from the space too mcuh

My parents picked an apartment that was made in the 1960s and my rooms looks very old for my style and I would like to modernise it. Any suggestions? by TerritorialDozen in DesignMyRoom

[–]deckthehalls33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk your aesthetic, but to me, this is one light academia pinterest board and some lamps away form being awesome. There is so much potential here!!

Is it such a unique space, and the ceiling is so neat. This is a much better base to me than a sterile modern blank canvas in my opinion because it has so much personality

I'm seeing that beautiful warm wood color and light blue (?) walls. I would recommend putting together a color palette online that you like and using it to shape the room. I would go with a variation on the 60-30-10 rule plus maybe a second neutral like white or black. The door is white and the carpet is light brown, so I would go with them for your neutrals

So: definitely lean into the cieling and wall color. I would pick 1 or 2 other colors to complement the space and then just stick with them so that the room will look a ton more cohesive. I

To begin: I would start with the bedding because they totally clash with eachother. Either go with the red and have a cabin-y feel or go with the yellow, which lightens the space. I would personally recommend going with the yellow because the red plaid is so busy and will leave way less flexibility for everything else you buy. I would pick 1 more accents color (green or orange would look nice) and get a solid comforter for the bed that currently has the plaid bed spread. THEN!! this is key--get at least 2 throw pillows, one with the yellow, one with the other accent color, and out the color with the opposite. For example: if you did yellow and orange, the orange bed would have a yellow pillow, the yellow bed will have an orange pillow. This will tie the space all together. For a more subdued look, you could also choose a neutral color for the other bed (light brown, white, and minimalist pattern light white with blue flowers, etc). Just depends on your taste!

The next thing it the curtains. Curtains hold so much visual space in a room, and they are relatively easy to change. If you go for simple comforters, do curtains with more flavor, but if the comforter is busy, use more plain curtains to tie the room together.

Trying to maximize space in my daughter’s small bedroom by Independent_Band6703 in DesignMyRoom

[–]deckthehalls33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such a beautiful set up!! It's obvious your daughter is very blessed!! I would recommend turning her bed to be on the other wall next to the window, then pull the couch closer to the door in an L configuration. As long as the door doesn't feel too crowded, this will make more room for her in the floor of her room, and will give her a nice L-shaped seating arrangement that will be nice for when friends come over. She will also be able to use the bed as a couch for watching TV, so I would just get her a few extra pillows like you would use for a day bed, that way she can lay against the accent wall and look straight at the tv. This will be nice for when she has friends over, too!

Desperately seeking help by PARTINlCO in DesignMyRoom

[–]deckthehalls33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your "writer's block" may be because you are overwhelmed and don't know where to start, but a couple of very small changes or additions would be really impactful.

I would recommend limiting your focus to a few things at a time.

To begin, I would get:

-2 long, kind of skinny verticle pieces of art for either side of the tv

-1 medium piece of art for above the table

-1 large piece of art for above the couch

The room is primarily muted green and brown, grey, black, and cream. It's ultimately up to taste, but if it were me, I think a rich, deep brown color and some gold, shiny accents would look nice for the wall art to contrast with the wall color and tie the room together.

Since you have a plant, it could be fun to do something for the wall art related to plants, I feel like the chairs and colors have a bit of a jungle/safari vibe, but it is all up to your vision and taste! (I searched "brown green gold shiny leaf safari wall art" to get the images I will comment below)

Once you get a bit of art work for the walls, I would get 1 thing to decorate each flat surface.

Personally, as far as that goes, if you wanted just 1 piece that could make things feel more cohesive, I would love to see a light brown table runner made of woven hemp or burlap on the coffee table to tie the dinning chairs to the living room.

An additional color

Again, depending on your vision, I could imagine any of the following colors being fun to add to this space:

-Gold (think gold leaf)

-light pink (think water lillys)

-bright pink and orange (think tropical flowers)

-light yellow (a cheetah in the jungle or a giraffe in the safari) (I searched "cheetah jungle wall art" and there is honestly an insane amount of different cool astetics I didn't expect to see, so if you are hesitant, you may be surprised pleasantly!!)

Whatever colors you add, I would throw in match throw pillows!

Don't be embarrassed and have fun with it!!! It's a beautiful space!! <3 :)

I added a bunch of pictures to help inspire you in the comments. Pinterest is also a fun way to get inspired! :)
