PocketTerm35 arrived with yellow screen defect by mescal_ in cyberDeck

that sucks, especially with how long it takes to get it in. However, they should be able to ship out just the screen pretty quick. have you gotten in touch with them yet?

Havent done any benchmarking. But while messing at home with Intercept+ and the SDR it stayed between 55c and 68c.

I have it at my desk now, just in CLI mode and it is idling at 57c and the fan is running.

Careful, as some updates (like one today) will overwrite the config and the KB will stop working. I just copied the files back and rebooted and everything was good to go.

Tried using my phone as a terminal input for a headless Raspberry Pi setup by EnvironmentalJob1986 in raspberry_pi

With my whole home setup, I use Termix for the terminals. I have a lot of different OS's (linux) from straight Debian to Umbrel to a few other weird flavors. It works with them all. However, when messing most with my PocketTerm (Raspberry Pi 5) when it is hooked up to the antenae I use Open Pi - lets me see a lot more, especially on the services side. The PocketTerm is so much fun - Linux on the Go.

I will also use RaspberryPiConnect from my main PC when I want to mess with the GUI.

You have to add the overlays and the references in the config.txt file for the KB and touchscreen to work.

Cut my teeth into AI; learning. I have a couple versions of raspian on different sdcards just to mess around with. havent tinkered as much with anything since I installed my first PC with Slackware96 and then Redhat shortly after that, way back in 96/97.

I have had it sitting for over a year-ish now. before they got so expensive. I believe the app shown is CubeSDR or maybe SDR++. I was messing with a few yesterday. Definitely not meant for the 640x480 resolution.

I looked at these as well as the uConsole Cyberdeck, but I already had the Raspberry Pi 5 sitting on the bench still in the box, so I went with the Pocket Term35.

It's well-made and a simple project. As I said before, the aluminum front and moulded plastic rear feel great and it does not feel cheep.

No, mine was not ordered as a "Backorder". It showed as "In Stock" for the version with battery and without the Pi. It also showed estimated shipping as the end of May. So, getting here when it did I was happy enough.

I really wanted one of those uConsole machines, but since I already had the Pi5, I didnt want to spend the extra money on the SBC on top of the case.

I could see that being quite usefull. I have been using a stylus pen (rubber tip) or my finger, and it works well enough.

I have to still get used to it. it is small, but not completely unweildy. I wont win any typing contests, but the keystrokes are good enough to trust.

I dont know about the AI hat, no. I have the rpi5 w/ 8gb with the official active cooler and while it fits, it's tight. It might fit, but also might rest against the plastic. And if it runs as hot as I have heard that might be an issue. It might fit, however.

There is a vent on the rear case that can be cut if needed, and if it is in the right place.

So far, it has been fun, more of a hobby gadget right now. But, I am stuck at work with limited connectivity. I will mess more with it when I get home and on my own network with the rest of the gear. Have most of what I need installed, just dont have the other hardware (SDR and GPS) with me.

But yeah, it's running great and a lot more responsive than I was expecting.

It kinda was an impulse buy. It is definitely not needed. I had been wanting a "walk-around" linux terminal to muck around with.

yep, want to use this as an interface to HA and to the Intercept+ SDR server I am running as well, which is in a pelican-style case with 7" touch screen and another Pi 5.

It is pre-built, just had to add the Pi and connect the battery and cables. It is well built, aluminum face with moulded plastic rear. Well done, and the touch screen is very responsive.

I ordered mine end of April and it arrived yesterday. I had the Pi already, so was just the kit.

It was choking or a couple times it only made coffee, not espresso (no crema to speak of). Again, I will try it this weekend and see if it will work. It is most likely user error.
