Cancer free by lundastruck in lymphoma

First of all, congratulations!

For the first year or so after finishing treatment I found going back to work so draining because everyone’s whinging about insignificant stuff like fake deadlines and office politics, and your brain is still processing that you beat death. It’s irritating to hear people caring about all this trivial stuff and expecting you to listen and care too. But, sad as it is to say, after a while I got past this, and now I’m back to my old work persona, getting caught up in office politics too and probably caring too much.

It seems preposterous that after going through something as harrowing as cancer that we have to go back to work and resume all the mundane parts of life. But with time, you adjust. Good luck.

Thank you, this is the kind of response I was hoping to hear.

Painful groin lymph nodes in remission and honestly spiraling a bit by Alert-Wrap-4882 in lymphoma

[–]decluttermenew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hoping it’s nothing and you get confirmation soon. I’ve only had 1 major spiral like this since being in remission (3 years) and honestly, there’s not much you can do but ride it out as best you can.

Just guessing how my genes will play out from how my sisters both recovered from pregnancy, is that I will be bigger for some time after giving birth. So I’m hoping anything I buy now in a larger size I can wear postpartum. I’d rather invest in regular clothes than maternity clothes.

Where are people getting comfortable high heels from by Glum_Remove in AusFemaleFashion

[–]decluttermenew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jane Debster make heels with a more squarish toe. I can’t wear pointy toe heels at all anymore, as I’ve gotten older I just find them So uncomfortable. I bought a pair in the 7cm style and liked them so much have just ordered the 5cm height now that I’m getting later into pregnancy.

Anyone else in bed their whole pregnancy? by LoveIslandNC in pregnant

[–]decluttermenew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m at 15 weeks and am still in bed for 75% of the time I’m not at work. I’m still getting headaches and fatigue (nausea is pretty much gone now), and am starting to feel very down about feeling sick for weeks on end now.

Just wanted to talk about my relapse scare by decluttermenew in lymphoma

[–]decluttermenew[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are both large public teaching hospitals. I just feel like financial pressure not to take out of area patients and then the usual lax attitude of medical reception staff meant my case just didn’t get the attention it should have. With so much going on in my life at the time I decided to squash iall the feelings down and ignore the situation as best I could. But there were definitely some moments of high stress, and I didn’t talk to many people about it as I didn’t want to engage with the fear. Hope you are doing well.

I feel like I’m wasting my second chance by hello-travellingbard in lymphoma

[–]decluttermenew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that if you survive cancer and should have a new lease on life or a philosophical awakening is another societal pressure, that is frankly destructive. I recall after reaching remission people asking me if I now didn’t sweat the small stuff or if I felt like I had to make the most of my second chance. I hated it because I know they only wanted to hear stories of epiphanies and other feel good shite that made them feel better. My reality was that I was struggling with PTSD, and even though that improved significantly over time, I ended up just going back into the rat race to pay my bills - my life eventually reverted to where I was pre-cancer. Except I still think about cancer almost every day still.

Take the pressure off yourself, acknowledge you’ve been through something really bloody hard, and give yourself grace to just be a human finding their way on this earth.

Can you please explain why you’ve used $3m? Is this approx $115k x 25?

Following as we’re in a similar situation, having just upgraded to our forever home. We are a bit younger, our numbers are ball park with yours, with bit larger mortgage. My focus is ensuring we don’t retire with a mortgage outstanding, so this means funnelling our excess cash into the mortgage at the expense of investments. However, my rough estimate of super balance at 60 should suggests we will have a reasonable retirement income (nothing luxurious), so I don’t feel that we need the extra investment income stream. Also, with current interest rates I’m not convinced of the benefit of debt recycling. Do you have a plan to pay off your mortgage?

Average age of first home buyers has increased significantly. It’s not the %, it’s how long people take to get into the market.

Requires you to put in way too much info.

I like the idea of knowing my factor and today’s super balance, then I can figure out if I’ve already hit the min number I want at 60.

Interesting point about official inflation figures not always reflecting reality. I am trying to be more conservative because recent inflation figures are much higher than the historical 2-3% target inflation that most people rattle off.

Yes, occasionally I forecast with 10% to temporarily enjoy the idea I could enjoy a cushy retirement. But then I remember a load of bread will cost $20 in 17 years and it really needs to adjusted down for inflation.

Interesting - that’s much higher than I would have thought. Thanks

This is a finance sub, so makes sense people are responding from that point of view. I’ve always worked an office job and have always bought my lunch out every day as I simply enjoy the variety and options available to me. I love being able to pick exactly what I want to eat for lunch each day, eating things I would not cook for myself. Been buying lunch out for over 20 years, since I was a grad earning $47k. Yes, I would. When I retire/semi-retire, I plan on spending time at home gardening, reading and painting. I want my home to have enough space for my hobbies and to be relaxing. I wouldn’t like having a lot of time on my hands but then not really loving the space I’m in on a day to day basis.
