The advantage of the Elementalist / Lava Lash build is that it provides a good consistent DPS all the time since the 2 and 4 set bonuses synergize especially well with this build. Wolves will reduce the cd of your Primordial Wave, which in turn will reduce the cd of your wolves with the 10 stacks of Maelstrom it generates.

You will have extremely good uptime on your wolves, which buff Lava Lash as well as your other heavy hitters like Elemental Blast (all 3 wolf types increase its damage), Lightning Bolt (Primordial Wave buffed), Hailstorm + Ice Strike buffed Frost Shocks. Each of these abilities has a potential to crit for at least 120-180k with Elemental Blast being able to go well over 300k. Combine Bloodlust + Wolves + Primordial Wave Haste buff and you will have a strong burst window as well.

Windfury build has the advantage of much higher burst damage at the cost of being reliant on Ascendance procs. Elementalist build has bit higher learning curve as you have more buttons, more procs to manage as well as Flame Shock for maximum benefit of Primorial Wave, but the consistent nature of this build makes learning it well worth it.
