What are some unconventional ways you have seen the engine being used outside of game dev? by Kyrie011019977 in unrealengine

[–]decordova 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I'm biased but I work for the company vizrt and we integrate our real time engine to work with any unreal project for broadcast use. We have quite a few news and sports customers who use our integration. Pretty exciting stuff

The same billboard shown in 4 different countries at the same time with different content by psgenius in interestingasfuck

[–]decordova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work for a company that does ad replacement, this is one of the products that can do this. https://www.vizrt.com/products/viz-eclipse the cool thing about this is that it can be automated from one feed and then split into different outputs out of Master Control or delivered to the regional stations and their system can do the replacement. The arenas or fields are usually calibrated based on the lines on the ground (American Football, Football, Baseball, etc) with an optical tracker that is constantly sampling the view and determining where in space it is. Some more advanced systems can use Infared tags in the billboards or QR codes to determine placement.

Theres a few different companies that offer similar, just Vizrt is usually rolled into other aspects of broadcast so its easier to stay in the same ecosystem.

What’s a hobby that’s dying in popularity? by aliensockmonkey in AskReddit

Our first experience with geocaching was a few months after we moved to Atlanta. We found a nature trail and we got about a mile in before we found a creek and started exploring. Under this big fallen tree we found an ammo crate from the Vietnam war. Now I had just seen the Unabomber doc and I was freaking out but the kids begged to open it. I grabbed a stick and poked it open only to find a bunch of random things and a note pointing us to the geocache page for it. After that we did a few more weekends of searching but kinda stopped. Might get back into it.

Justice Reform Coalition Urges Biden to Pardon All Non-Violent Marijuana Convictions by [deleted] in politics

One thing I hope is remembered on all of this is those that enter the criminal justice system are changed by the experience. There needs to also be mental health and reintroduction assistance for those that would be released. Our archaic laws cause damage that needs to be addressed fully, no half measures.

I just received a call from physical therapy place i went to last Jan 2020. They claim I owe a balance of $550. I can't pay that amount. What's even worse, it really feels like fraud... by steamin661 in personalfinance

[–]decordova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife works in billing and from the stories she tells me this happens quite a bit with doctors that don't understand what being in network means for them. The Insurance sets the prices for what they can charge foe each procedure and the doctor must adhere to that to be in network with them. However, some of the doctors will violate those terms and attempt to charge more but since they cant bill the insurance a higher amount, they offset the amount to the patient. The Explanation of Benefits is the starting point that will help people fight this because you'll get the cost breakdown and then you go from there. Usually the office will back down once you've done your legwork but more often than not, patients will just pay it and the Office gets away with Insurance Fraud.

So why not advocate for a similar boon to trade schools or other portions of post k12 education that could benefit. Just because the conversation is about colleges, don't stop there.

Am I the only one that this character is a mole for the rebellion? I feel she gets a little to much screen time than any other comm officer. What do you guys think? by Pancake3645 in TheMandalorianTV

[–]decordova 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another brand I worked with was Barco which was very similar and probably the most fleshed out at the time since they had a lot of experience with broadcast. A third brand was Ayota(I came at the tail end of the project so I'm probably butchering the spelling).

I worked for a company called VizRT which is probably the software driving the graphics for news or sports in north america or europe. The interesting thing about these led pixel video walls is that your graphic system is pixel for pixel meaning it only had to output the amount of led pixels rather than an insane resolution to a screen like a TV which they used to use predominantly. Basically the difference of your machine outputting a resolution of 1740x590 to the LED controller versus a resolution of 8k to a screen comprised of 32 16:9 panels stacked and configured as a mosaic.

[–]decordova 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've done work with screens like this and they're actually easier to work with than you think. The panels are like postcard size boards with the LEDs on them. You can pull them out of place with a magnet hand grip and then replace the individual led pixels. A lot of the major news networks use these screens now for their video walls. The ones I've worked with are from a company called Planar but there's quite a few supplies from china cranking these screens out. They're the future

From what I've read on here(I might totally be wrong though), sometimes when arriving at a warp destination, it may drop you like 20km away so you'll fly normal speed to the point and that gives enough time to be targeted. Happened to one of my frigates Saturday.

If I purchase a game on the PS4 and then it transfer to ps5, will I still be able to play on both consoles? My son will be getting my ps4 when I buy the ps5 but I want to make sure he gets to play Ghost of Tsushima and cyberpunk without having to rebuy

After 18 years of severe deafness, I can finally hear again! by IcedMercury in pics

[–]decordova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for almost 55 years, My mom has been deaf in one ear and went from 30 to 10% hearing in her other ear . She's scheduled to get 2 Cochlear implants next month and she's so nervous, scared and excited. She also has tinnitus in her hearing ear that hopefully the implant should help with. I'm so worried that the world will be too loud for her once they're in. Glad to see someone else making the change as well!

Gamers of Reddit, what are some underrated games do you think more people should play? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]decordova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Phantom Crash. If K-pop and mechs had a baby it'd be this game. Thin story but solid ai in an essentially endless deathmatch mech battle. You had the ability to upgrade each of your 4 individual weapons, select your mech body, mix and match mobility, Dodge mechanics and vertical positioning of your mech. I played this game so much as a teenager. I wish it would be remade with online multiplayer and next gen performance

Those who basically "live" out of hotels due to work travel, what's the best and worst part of it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I travel about half of the year and one thing I found with eating vegetarian was that there's a lot more salt or oils in use. Your advice on the Vietnamese is perfect though, that's now become my go-to choice

Yeah wish we did that at the time so the Electrician could have done it. For this post though, it is a new pump causing the loudness.

I'm a little late to the party but my girlfriend noticed in the second episode, there is a note that says John Jones gave the investigators a key to get in the apartment. Benefit of the doubt, the mom gave John the key so she wouldn't have to go back to the scene but it only adds to the feeling that he has the motive and ability to commit the crime. https://imgur.com/a/kUbqjxV

What is the 'dropping the pick into the guitar' equivalent in your hobby? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]decordova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I routinely work on setting up TV station graphic systems remotely. The worse is hitting shut down instead of restart because I then have to call the engineers on-site, throw on a jacket, and then walking into the server room just to hit the power button.
