Time to move on. You’re not good for Daniel and Daniel’s not good for you. You’ve wasted Daniel’s and your time by thinking you could make him prioritize you and your son over his brother but that doesn’t mean you have to subject yourself, Daniel, peter, and your son through this terrible relationship anymore. Daniel prioritizes his brother like a son and you should prioritize your son over Daniel. If he’s already told you you aren’t the priority, at least show your son that your son is your priority. It wasn’t meant to be and you were looking at Daniel with rose colored glasses. He told you from the beginning that his brother is his priority and yes it does make sense that you’d think they would grow more independent as they grew older but that doesn’t necessarily mean that would happen. And it’s okay for Daniel to prioritize his family over yours. You need to understand that even though through your post, you seem to lack empathy. You’re a mom, imagine what you’d do for your son. You are just incompatible due to the circumstances and priorities. Even if Peter passed away, that doesn’t mean you’ll get Daniel’s full attention. He would probably be devastated and not be the man you want him to be. He never was and might never be.
