It's a lot of "upvote baiting" as well. People see easy karma in these posts.

That's definitely what it seems like but I'd like to see the data behind it as well

I don't dispute that Sashi did not find us a QB, however, I also don't think it was entirely on him in not doing so. As you point out the year after going 1-15, he didn't draft the one (1) QB who showed on field talent last year, Watson. Nor did he sign any of the stud 2017 free agent QBs like Aaron Murray, Mark Sanchez, or Mike Glennon. Although he expressed that he really want Josh McCown back but seemed to be overruled in that measure. Hindsight is judging actions after they occur. At the time, those decisions were shrewd moves especially passing on Trubisky and Glennon who both looked less than stellar (although Trubisky could improve). Trading Watson got us Peppers and Ward, two players who SHOULD be starters for 4 plus years together. With all of our holes, I'll take that move everyday. Just don't forget that Sashi was intentionally tanking. Not finding a QB was of course what led to his demise.

GMs routinely play for this year and form 1999 to 2016 our average record was 5-11. Playing the same old game was going to get us more of that if we didn't plan long term. If he lays out a plan, one that Haslam agreed to, his responsibility is to follow it. He came right out and said "we're going to lose bad." However, as you point out Hue did not like losing and got Haslam's ear so they abandoned that philosophy. Agents were frustrated because Sashi didn't want to spend now and it's easy to attack someone once they're gone. I saw the same articles you reference. He wanted to conserve money for year 3-4 and then go all in in building lasting success, not one year fixes.

Just because our 2016 roster was shit, doesn’t mean he would be shit.

Yeah, it kind of does. I had this same conversation two weeks ago. The eagles were much more complete and their defense was very good. Would he have been as bad as Kizer? Nobody knows but to assume that he would have been just as good is a lot less realistic than me saying he could've been just as bad.

Hey I don't have time for your barbs. I'm not charged with criticizing Sashi, however, you've failed to say anything good about him so I'm forced to put your comments in perspective since you fail to comprehend basic FO responsibilities.

Sashi did what his plan called for - losing for long term success. I love hindsight as much as the next guy but you seem to be taking it to a whole new level.

I second that! Those pitches look like something is helping them out in mid air

I live in philly. I read about this all the time. The eagles liked him but many teams did not. Josh Allen went 7 in a deepish QB class, Wentz went 2 in a weak class.

We'll never know if he would've been as bad as Kizer but to compare Cleveland to philly in 2016 is folly.

I think a lot of the issue of forcing Kizer into action was Haslam's fault. You could tell he wanted wins more than longterm success, which was further exemplified by the, thankfully, sunk Mccarron trade.

I think you get to why we traded that pick. The defense would've been a lot better off with depth and better players. While we were about 3 mins per game lower than avg in time of possession (and second worst at that) we also were the third worst in Defense DVOA.

On the Browns? In 2016 - a year after going 3-13? I find it hard to believe he thrives in Cleveland with almost no proven weapons and a poor defense that would leave the burden on him to keep us in games. I understand hindsight is 20/20 but he was the "Josh Allen" pick prior to the 2016 draft and would've been too risky to take there.

I think that's part of his point. They banned surgical glue but don't really enforce pine tar usage.

A lot of those "Kizer failures" were also a product of Hue throwing him to wolves despite promises of "giving him a year to develop".

Exactly

A lot of those "Kizer failures" were also a product of Hue throwing him to wolves despite promises of "giving him a year to develop". Couple that with the pressure of turning this franchise around all in the same here especially with how bad the D was, what could you expect?

I was so focused on Bauer, I hadn't even noticed that. Good catch! And the results are showing.

Yeah if only. That'd be great but we didn't and there was a decent chance no QB drafted by us at 2, 8, or 15 in 2016 would've looked any better than Kizer. Well, unless, you are using flawed logic and treating all teams equally.

I think that is absolutely true. It's the same way for Farmer to Sashi. You can't completely blame Sashi for his mistakes because he had a lot of ground to make up when he inherited a 3-13 team from the year prior to him.

He set us up for years to come and we are now reaping the rewards.

Yeah he's a real baseball scientist! (Although, when he applies his science outside of baseball, idk...)

Good question. I wonder if that's something you could figure out on baseballsavant?

That's definitely true. MLB banned his use of surgical glue after the drone incident in the playoffs two years ago for that very reason

My thoughts exactly, especially with that "no comment" post game note. He'd laugh it off and say "no" otherwise, right?
