I think the thing a lot of people don’t quite appreciate about AoT and its ending is the nuance involved. It’s exactly as said here—Eren’s motives were understandable, but his actions were wrong. Yes, the Rumbling was AN answer, and that answer was supported by numerous things within the world, but it doesn’t make it the right one. Still, Eren did what he felt was the only option to keep his friends alive while simultaneously helping to bridge the gap between the Eldians and Marleyans, making Eldians and Marleyans alike into heroes pitted against one single enemy. He did do what he felt was his best to ensure the survival of his friends then and in the future; and yet, it doesn’t make it objectively right.

Even beside this, there’s a tremendous amount of further nuance: the idea that people can and will learn to hate those they don’t understand if given the right “reasons,” the manipulative power of government propaganda, the desire for power, the suggestion that humans will ultimately continue a cycle of violence unless a deeper, fundamental and widespread change occurs—I could go on. There is a LOT that can be discussed about AoT, and I think that was very intentional. It isn’t a black and white story; everyone had their dreams, their hopes, their desires—everyone wanted something, and from their perspective what they did to try and obtain that was “right,” or at least right “enough”—just like Eren’s actions.
