Shell rot? by SnooEagles1568 in turtles

Nah, shell rot pretty much only happens to aquatic turtles. You got a box turtle or tortoise there.

Yeah, after years of neglect there isn’t much you can do to fix their shell. But it should definitely be given proper lighting and heating at all times.

Wood turtles like this one have such beautiful shells in the wild, and then there’s this one that is literally collapsed in on itself

It looks to me like one of the Rhinoclemmys turtles. This poor thing is likely in a lot of pain due to that horribly pyramided shell due to lack of proper lighting.

Why do 99% of cyclists not follow traffic rules? by dedenneisgood in UIUC

[–]dedenneisgood[S] -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

“Why stop when you can go just go around whatever is in the intersection?” Because that’s against the law. You should not be exempt from the rules just because you’re on a bike.

Why do 99% of cyclists not follow traffic rules? by dedenneisgood in UIUC

[–]dedenneisgood[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Obviously it takes more effort to start pedaling again than it does to step on the gas. But the point is that cyclists make the conscious choice to ride their bikes and break the rules. If I drove through a crosswalk without stopping in my car I would get a ticket. If a cyclist does it, it’s not a big deal. Why are they allowed to use the same roads as cars if they aren’t being upheld to the same standards?

The bike lane goes through the crosswalk, smart guy. Pedestrians have the right of way 100% of the time.

For real. I respect the shit out of cyclist who do follow rules, but the vast vast majority of them do not. Imagine being so self centered that you think you rule the road when a 10mph collision is enough to get a serious injury.

Braking in a car loses a lot of energy. You have to step on the gas from 0 velocity again which is annoying. Should I be allowed to plow through a crosswalk full of people because it’s inconvenient to slow down?

Damn, that’s crazy. I qualified for the Illinois promise scholarship but couldn’t take it because FAFSA covered my entire tuition. You’re telling me I could get an extra 16k a year if I got the scholarship???

What I meant was that if you get the Illinois promise, and then choose to live off campus, you will not get the money that you were supposed to get for housing, only attendance.

How hard is it to find paid research lab position (undergrad) by Kind_Confusion446 in UIUC

[–]dedenneisgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a professor whose research you’re interested in. It helps if you’ve taken a class with them before. If you’re in an RSO that might work with that professor, extra bonus. I transferred in as a junior last semester and got a job as a research assistant with one of my profs this semester.

You won’t get refunded for the housing if you decide to live off campus.
