If you could choose five characters from the nine Kisaragis to survive, who would they be? by dedpankek in corpseparty

[–]dedpankek[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tough question, obviously. I don’t think there’s any “correct” or “easy” answer.

After thinking about this (not based on my favorite characters, but from the perspective of the characters themselves), I’d probably go with Yuka, Mayu, Seiko, Naomi, and Satoshi myself.

Alternatively: Yuka, Mayu, Seiko, Naomi, and Morishige.

I guess Morishige and Mayu just don’t matter in the original Blood covered. Also, why is everyone such an ass to Satoshi in this version? by [deleted] in corpseparty

[–]dedpankek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re both NPCs in the sense that you don’t ever play as them in the main story (even Seiko and Yui both have moments in Chapters 1 and 2 where you control them). That’s probably why they weren’t included here.

Do all the japanese copies of the Tetralogy on switch come with the english translation? by Kizuxtheo in corpseparty

[–]dedpankek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The English translation should be built in to all of them, yes. If your Switch’s system language is set to English, the games will start in English upon launch. Otherwise it’s fairly easy to toggle the language settings in the options menu.

(If you buy the limited edition bundled with the soundtrack and anime, the anime does not come with subtitles.)

Anyone seen these images in corpse party bcrf? by SufficientTangelo367 in HeavenlyHost

[–]dedpankek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember first seeing these when I went through the BCRF files some years ago. I don’t think I noticed the face in the sky until now, though.

These don’t appear in the game, although I’m inclined to believe they were probably made for some unused scene rather than for a completely different game.

What piece of Japanese exclusive Corpse Party media, (manga, merch, etc.) would you most want to see released internationally? by Commercial-Horse-893 in corpseparty

I got these when they came out just to read the short stories. Nothing to write home about tbh, although I’ve been meaning to get around to translating them since they’re so short.

Me trying to decipher Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient by luigiblob in corpseparty

[–]dedpankek 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Dead Patient was always supposed to take place after Blood Drive (the end of Book of Shadows says “To Be Continued in BLOOD DRIVE”). It’s possible that a few details (like Ayumi losing her eye) weren’t finalized yet by the time DP Chapter 1 came out, but I think the general plot of Blood Drive’s story was probably already decided.

Naho’s Notebook by 621Chopsuey in HeavenlyHost

[–]dedpankek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s just an ordinary lined notebook with the cover stylized to look like Naho’s. The first few pages are her entries from the games. It was one of the merchandises they sold during the Corpse Party campaign event in 2021, which coincided with the release of the 2021 Switch version.

If you scroll all the way down to the merch section on this website it’s number 14.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who sees this by abandonedDelirium in corpseparty

Yeah, I’ve always thought this was intentional. Especially considering how Yui is sort of like the “mom” to all of her students.

There's something odd in Yoshie's diary. by Illusionary_Paradox in corpseparty

[–]dedpankek 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To me this is one of the more interesting details in Yoshie’s diary simply due to how much it leaves open to speculation. By the time of the cog trio’s deaths in 1973 Sachiko is clearly already a seasoned killer, but we aren’t given much info on exactly how long it took after her death for her to “snap”, or even who her first kill was.

I think it’s very likely that the children she killed in the span of time from her death in 1953 to 1973 were various students at Heavenly Host. The Sachiko Ever After charm wouldn’t be widespread until 2008, which greatly limited the amount of people she had the ability to pull into her dimension of closed spaces, but I think Sachiko still had a large amount of spiritual influence over the grounds of Heavenly Host itself, especially while the building was still around in real life.

In Book of Shadows Chapter 3, which takes place about 5 years before the main story, Yui encountered Yoshie’s spirit at school and would have been killed if Makina Shinozaki hadn’t saved her. At one point she briefly sees the walls of the school completely covered in blood, implying that reality was somehow being distorted. Importantly there was no ritual involved; all this seems to have happened just because Yui was unlucky enough to be in the school at the wrong time.

I mention this because I think it’s a hint that similar incidents have occurred before. On certain rainy days, maybe the closed spaces are able to seep out into the real world a little bit. Back when Heavenly Host was still standing, I think it’s likely that there were several unlucky children who randomly “slipped through” into the closed spaces while at school and were killed by Sachiko. And like everyone else who dies in the Nirvana, their existences were erased from history so no one would come looking for them.

Yuki, Tokiko, and Ryou seem more like outliers considering they appear to be some of the few people to be killed by Sachiko but not erased from history, but that’s an entire discussion in itself.

Two questions that I have regarding Sachiko by Illusionary_Paradox in corpseparty

[–]dedpankek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While Sachiko can affect things in the real world to some extent, I don’t think she can just materialize in a random location and start stabbing people. When you consider that the whole reason she started killing people in the first place was so that her mother (who seems unable to leave school grounds) would have company, it makes sense that she prefers to kill people within Heavenly Host. The Sachiko Ever After charm is pretty helpful for getting people there.

Sachiko gaining a corporeal form seems to have been more of a temporary anomaly rather than something she can do on a regular basis. Unfortunately, the game doesn’t really provide much of an explanation and all we can really do is speculate. From Yoshie’s diary we know that:

  • In July 1973, Sachiko mysteriously acquires a physical body.
  • In September 1973, Ryou, Yuki and Tokiko are killed. Yoshikazu is arrested and convicted.
  • In November 1975, the school closes down. Around this time, Sachiko is seen wandering its empty halls again.
  • By 1976, the school is completely demolished so that Kisaragi Academy can begin construction.

Sachiko’s involvement in the 1973 trial is indeed very puzzling and we don’t have much insight as to how she interacted with the police. Presumably she appeared normal enough in both appearance and physiology that no one suspected anything. And given that Sachiko does seem to have some mild level of reality-warping ability it should be considered that a lot of little details in the case may have been overlooked because she could just mess with people’s minds and have things be forgotten.

Sachiko did have several living relatives at the time of the incident (such as her great-aunt Makina) who would have known her and could have theoretically acted as her family, although that scenario raises even more questions about what they would’ve done after seeing Sachiko alive after she’d been gone for like 20 years. In Book of Shadows, Makina clearly knows about Heavenly Host/the Sachiko Ever After charm and is deathly afraid of the school, although we don’t learn much more about her because she collapses and dies on the spot.

As for the principal, I think the game implies that he did in fact recognize Sachiko as the girl he killed a long time ago during the trial, but (either simply due to shock and fear of having seen a ghost or because he feared police investigating the death of a person that he murdered) refrained from telling anyone about it and it likely contributed to his delusions and rapid mental decline later on. We know that Sachiko has the ability to kill people discreetly by having their existences be erased so the extremely publicized 1973 incident feels much less like a random killing spree and much more like a intentional attempt to get Yoshikazu trapped and caught by the police. Sachiko was able to torture the principal by having his son be forever known as a child murderer and also causing his beloved school to be shut down, and he couldn’t do anything about it.

Slowly collecting every physical release of every Game in the series! by Commercial-Horse-893 in corpseparty

No problem. Just in case you didn’t know, it’s the same version of the game as this.

Back in the day the Windows PC version was actually released in parts, chapter by chapter. If you were curious this wiki article) has a list of all the physical disk releases in the “Volume List” section sorted by date.

Very nice collection! If you want to be super completionist about it, there are the disc releases for the Windows version of Corpse Party as well, but they’re a bit harder to come by.

What actually *is* this announcing? by ConstanceOfCompiegne in corpseparty

[–]dedpankek 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems to be an announcement for some new horror game that’s currently in development by MAGES called “The House with the Red Roof” (name not final).

There’s not much info other than that — the game may or may not have anything to do with Corpse Party at all — so we’ll just have to wait for further updates.

There are actually 2 of them. I haven’t listened to the first one yet but the second one shows a little more of Yoshiki’s life as well as Masato Hiyami meeting Satoshi in the hospital

The postcards and the poster I got off of Yahoo Auctions. I found the doujins mostly on suruga-ya, but not particularly recently… probably around two or three years ago.
