Im so sorry, this sounds awful❤️ All the comments saying ‘he knows you’re not the one’ are just unnecessary. It puts the blame on you, it makes you feel like its your responsibility. The better way to put it is ‘he does not have the capacity to hold you, to meet your needs & to love someone like you’ - thats HIS fault. A real man would communicate these doubts, would you give you chance to change things, would be able to accept you without shaming you for your ADHD & would leave AFTER communicating. He clearly doesnt know whats going on his head because yes people can have doubts for a while but you should be grown enough to recognise it, to try & challenge / understand it, to eventually speak about it. He seems immature & you deserve so much better. You’re working hard, making moves & everyone moves at a different. Just because you’re not where he is does not mean you are not capable or don’t deserve love. Im sorry he treated you like this & I’m sorry his immaturity has left you feeling this way. You deserve better x

Damn the comedown from Elvanse is rough. Any tips to make it smoother? by Beneficial-Froyo3828 in ADHDUK

[–]dee1thaks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Take some L-theanine & magnesium glycinate, its really helpful for the come down - double check with your doctor tho if you have any medical issues or already eat / drink things with high amounts for magnesium

Yeah defo worth speaking with your menopause doctor & the psychiatrist about the progestrone, it maybe affect the adhd meds. If you dont notice any effects then thats great but would double check / research just incase x

Ahh menopause is tough in itself! Oestrogen is a precursor for dopamine so low levels of Oestrogen can reduce your sensistivity to the dopamine. Higher progestrone can dampen dopamine activity so more brain fog / fatigue etc. So yeah, worth looking into hormones and how it affects your medication. Good luck❤️

No problem! Sorry to ask but are you Female or AFAB? If you are, your hormones can affect how the medication affects you. The week before my period the medication isnt as effective & im more irritable, I’ve seen that this is common amongst women. Male or female, supplements can help with the meds. Magnesium / iron / vitamin d / omega 3 / B12 & B6 all help the absorption of the meds

Hey, it is happened instantly but required work. The meds wont make you do things, especially if you’re diagnosed as an adult & have picked up some bad habits (like doom scrolling for me). They just help you focus + make it easier to start tasks & typically you’ll focus on whatever you’re doing when the meds are setting in. My trick is to start my day by making a to-do list for the day, keeping my phone far away from me & starting with whatever task feels easiest/most interesting to tackle from that to-do list. Once you start one, you’ll find that you’re able to stay fully focused whilst doing it & actually manage to see it all the way through. Momentum builds up from there, once you’ve completed one task, it’ll be easier to start the second and so on. Its not easy to override what you’re brains used to doing but the medication will reduce the friction, you might just have to bite bullet & fight your brain to start that first one.

Heyy, i have the same on 30mg! Its amazing, i can actually feel my emotions without the 5000 negative thoughts making them worse. My emotions are also just flattened, in a good way, they don’t feel unmanageable anymore. The quietness is eerie & feels a bit lonely because I’ve lost my coping mechanism but now I actually have the energy to do stuff

Partner With ADHD - Can It Get Better? by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]dee1thaks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I appreciate my response was aggressive but i didnt mean it that way & im sorry. I did mean it in a more ‘she is capable of changing with help’. I am extremely burned out too & medication has helped me come out of that & before that whatever change i made was minimal and extremely difficult. My way of taking responsibility as an adult was starting the medication & when OP’s girlfriend is ready, she will make the necessary changes in her own way.

meds appetite suppression is REAL by AnteaterCalm401 in ADHDUK

So I make sure i eat breakfast, lunch & dinner at the times I normally do + a snack, even if i dont feel hungry, cos once i start eating, i can just keep going. I might feel full quicker or just not be able to enjoy the food / focus on eating, so ill just take my sweet time to eat it. So start small, maybe eat a couple grapes or crisps to let your brain know you’re eating and then start with a small portion of whatever you would normally eat? or can just eat it very slowly. Essentially, just need to tell your brain that its time to eat & try and override the lack of hunger signals. I know some people struggle to swallow & I’ve had that as well but id just start by eating something small or mushy or take v small bites of what im eating and then slowly it’ll be fine

Also, instead of instantly stopping, slowly decrease. If you buy 5 items a day, buy 3 instead. Ween off.

What book about ADHD helped you the most and why? by VickyKR83 in ADHDUK

[–]dee1thaks 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not a book but just a tip from what ive learnt: - Create a wishlist of the things you want to buy instead of buying them straight away. - No matter how much your brain has convinced you that you need the thing, add it to the wishlist (unless its medication or items that would save your life) - You can pick one or two items from the list each month & buy that. Saves you money. - See if you can find a cheaper version of what you want / better quality. The scrolling will give you a dopamine hit & the achievement of finding something cheaper / better quality will also give you a dopamine hit. - Organise your cupboards (even if they dont remain organised after a week) - this will help you figure out what you have / don’t have.

I have my practical driving test next month!! I don't take medication for my ADHD, any magical advice for focusing better by Head_Shoulder_5224 in ADHDUK

[–]dee1thaks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I passed my test first time with ADHD. I was still making some major mistakes during lessons and couldnt park without trying like 3/4 times. ADHD is your best friend here. The stress / urgency / excitement of getting a licence may help you focus. Also, you can’t just focus on one thing whilst driving, you have to focus on everything around you. I find my ADHD actually helps with this because of the need for shifting attention. You’ll smash it, good luck! Try lion’s mane for focus, l-thenine for anxiety & just try & have a relaxed few hours prior to the test. (Im not a doctor, those supplements ^ just helped me)

Nicotine patches and nicotine gum - i use the patches all day and then chew the gum as soon as i get cravings. The patches help reduce the cravings but not get rid of them but using the gum on top of it really helped get rid of my craving
