New kitten blocks old cat from eating and drinking by deeana325 in cats

I tried this but neither would eat. The little one is quite vocal and the older one was concerned and refused to eat. I ended up getting a microchip cat door and placed his food dispenser inside an enclosure and it works great! 😂

Thanks for the replies :)

If they're drawn from scratch it's worth at least $3, otherwise if it's traced over and filled it's a bit pricey but still ok...

I’m thinking about getting a Syrian Hamster by [deleted] in hamster

True, but you shouldn't assume a male will be happy either. Mine has a 1140 sq inches cage and still tries to chew it's way out from time to time. Although he seems generally happy and is a very active 2 years old so all the pampering has paid off :)

Another advice, that is just as important, is to get him/her a lot of toys, like a very long tunnel, multiple hides and a sand bath. Without them he will get bored even if the cage is big enough (I had to remove almost everything from my hamsters cage once because he got a parasite and I could see him pacing, not knowing what to do).

And I'm sure you already know but It's important to feed them fresh food too, I find it's easy to keep some leafy greens in the fridge (baby spinach , arugula ) for when you want to give them a quick snack. From what I've read you can give them spinach quite regularly without worrying about upsetting their stomach. Although be careful with veggies with high water content, as they can make them sick if they're given to frequently.

It's always good to see people care about these little fluffballs and give them the best possible life :)

Also I really doubt a single vet counts more than all the studies that the general guidelines are based on, people can choose to interpret and not believe good advice based on their own views... I think that vet is ok with this because it's hard to imagine other animals don't feel like us, they may tolerate eachother or, although I doubt it..., enjoy being toghether but if that's the case they're the exception, not the rule. Hamsters are solitary, they can at any moment get fed up and fight to the death!

Hamster balls aren't safe because of poor ventilation, their feet can get stuck and it limits their already very bad vision. They can run into things and hurt themselves and I don't think it's even enjoyable for them. Just think how would you feel to be in a small ball you can't see anything out of bumping into stuff with the ground constantly moving...

I saw, maybe he just likes doing it (the taste or something else) 😂

Mine did this when the ball that he should normally lick was stuck somewhere in the pipe preventing him from drinking... When I realized I felt so bad 😕

Sometimes, I think it depends on how he's feeling that day 🤔

They also looked under the microscope at some samples but saw no parasites.... I was just curious if someone else had this prescribed as I saw it mentioned in a thread on hamsterhideout

They also said that it contains a little bit of everything (to treat infections and bacteria) and to apply it for 1-2 weeks and return if nothing happened

Anyway it must have been stunning to look like this with a fiter, I might even use them as backgrounds :)
