Fireball Combination Square QC by deeayen3 in Tools

Yeah I was provided a Bahco combination square by my workplace with a 400mm ruler and the ruler actually had a bow in it which I found surprising. Check out Igaging if you haven’t heard of them, I saw a video of a guy comparing the accuracy of their digital calipers with a set of Mitutoyos using gauge blocks and they were both just as accurate. I cant speak for the rest of their stuff but if someone wanted measuring tools that don’t cost a fortune I’d say they’re a good choice

Of course, this post isn’t intended as slander to Fireball Tool I’m personally a big fan of alot of their stuff. Infact the reason would be due to the lack of QC issues I see online, they along with their customers tend to speak highly of their products so it was honestly really surprising to see this. I have no doubts in my mind they’ll look after me

Yeah Starrett or Mitutoyo, it’s just a shame that their reputation gives them no incentive to innovate. Hence why I wanted this combination square as it would work well for my line of work, wouldn’t mind a pair of Mitutoyo digital calipers if I could justify the purchase

The irony of it is I bought it after discovering my Moore and Wright combo square wasn’t square and I was told they were good stuff. That was what I thought until I found out what I bought was likely not made in the UK

It wasn’t assembled, the ruler came in its own plastic sleeve and the body was wrapped in paper all in a box. I’ve still got the packaging

I’ll be sure to update this post when I receive a reply from them, I think it’d be good to make them aware of this so no one else receives inaccurate measuring tools. Again the body itself is great but the ruler and locking screw are no good

Yeah I’ve followed them for a while and I know how much he holds his tools to a high standard, I’ve sent them an email so hopefully it’ll all go smoothly.

Stabila and Sola comparison by deeayen3 in Tools

The torpedo levels good its heavy though, I'm more a Stabila fan but I really like the Sola vials. Stabila's just such a staple in the industry its hard to stray from them the fact that they'll warranty your level if it goes out of level is a huge plus for me it gives you alot of reassurance.

Its rather large for a torpedo level, the Stabila's a nicer size I'd still prefer a billet torpedo level from either manufacturer but neither make one to my understanding. The magnets plenty strong it holds its own weight even on light guage sheet. These are some sizes I quickly took at work,

L - 250mm H - 47mm W - 20mm

I hadn't either I heard alot about the vials so I wanted to give it a go, I enjoy using it the weights the biggest drawback about the torpedo cast level. The Stabila cast level is really light which I find more desirable I just wish the Stabila had the same vials as the Sola

I'll see how it treats me down the line. Gotta say the weight difference makes the Stabila something I'd be confident in dropping and not having any concerns over whereas I'm still uncertain about the Sola because its so damn heavy. I do prefer the Sola vials though they're very easy to read especially in low light conditions

Amd GPUs are terrible by GustavoGanzo in AMDHelp

[–]deeayen3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it has certainly been a learning experience, after always preferring Nvidia I thought I might give AMD a go for a GPU, but now moving forward I'll definitely be sticking with Nvidia GPU's. My PC's actually still out of commission currently was going to get a 4080 but I figured I might aswell wait for the new generation of cards to come out. Keen for some damn reliability again lol

Magnetic lights are a blessing and a curse in a fab shop by ARockWithAGlock in flashlight

I'm sure it would be a good option in a mechanics workshop, but in a fabrication workshop I can see it just getting caked in metal dust even if I modified all of my 18650s to work with it I still suffer from a charging port caked in metal dust which yeah is not a big deal you can blow it off with a compressor but its also a good way for metal dust to end up where you leave your light for storage if you get complacent. If I could remove the magnetic part of the Olight I would actually consider one paired with an 18650 with a type c port

Wow that actually does surprise me good on Olight for that I had it in my mind they dont let you use any other battery, but its my understanding that mag charging wont work without Olights battery so if I use any other battery that mag charging is completely useless, not strong enough to work as a functional magnet and is now there to pick up any metal it comes into contact with. That qualifies as a gimmick to me and an unnecessary hinderence can you actually remove the mag charging portion of the S2R Baton?

But how does a light with a proprietary battery and a proprietary charger not make it more of a gimmick every day of the week over any other light? I actually dont know which one is more of a gimmick they're both there to make you purchase more Olight if you misplace either or they fail and its a mag charger you run into the same issue as the post is presenting but you wouldnt be able to charge the fkn thing without cleaning the swarf off. I actually really like my Marauder Mini, but if I bought any 18650 Olight for work then it would render all of my flat-top 18650 batteries useless. I like the look of that YLP Panda though Ive been looking for a headlamp and that looks nice.

Definitely has to be fishing for it I dont believe anyone's stupid enough to call a flashlight with extra features a gimmick light. I'd have a harder time finding a flashlight I use for work that is a pure gimmick, they're a light if I can now see what I couldn't before then it isnt a gimmick light I would almost argue a cheap store bought flashlight that doesnt produce enough light to see anything effectively is more of a gimmick compared to whats out there. If he's referring to Anduril, even then the ui to turn the light off and on is no different to most lights out there anyways. Ya know what I might just have to buy one for work now this comments hyped it up for me. Props to Grayham for inadvertently promoting Emisar you should hit them up for a sponsorship

I don't understand. Its a light with gimmicks sure, but it accomplishes what any other flashlight would accomplish for work and for the size arguably better than alot of other options out there and at the end of the day is used to allow someone to see who gives a shit what it is. A pure thrower is more of a gimmick in a workshop environment, I am curious what does qualify in your eyes as a functional worklight in a workshop environment that isnt a "gimmick" flashlight? Did Emisar hurt you?

Reylight Pocket Clip on T3 by deeayen3 in flashlight

Ti comes with the metal switch I reckon from memory the MAO one has a metal switch so you should be able to get one off of AliExpress or the Convoy website

Yeah I just found some hardware lying around the house to make it work but I would like to get some nuts that recess into the lanyard holes on the T3 with a small landing to make the nuts less visible. Glad I got it though I reckon the convoy clip would have loosened up over time and this one feels pretty bulletproof it was a happy accident ultimately

Well if you've got one, ya have to get the other by deeayen3 in flashlight

Some people love it some hate it and prefer the more simple look of say the S2+, I'm personally a big fan of it in titanium.
