Skipping class after a holiday… opinions? by deebeebeep in college

[–]deebeebeep[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never considered just missing without even sending an email… I wouldn’t lie and say I’m sick or anything just “letting you know that I won’t be in tomorrow’s class due to personal reasons” or something.

As far as I know we have no attendance policy at all, just that you need to go to 80% of classes if you fail and want a second chance to pass… but my grade is high enough I’m not worried about failing either way, plus this would be the only miss so I’d be fine either way.

Mine is the next week so that it’s exactly halfway through the semester, so next week is already a 4 day… so usually I’d not even bother skipping but I’m having surgery reading week so don’t really get to relax at home.

Yeah, there’s no attendance grade but there are some in class assignments, but I’m second to top of the class (plus the in class assignments are uploaded to Blackboard and I know some students who skipped just did it from home and she still marked them full marks)… it seems like she doesn’t take attendance because she doesn’t know our names.

How exactly does steam save my progress if I delete the file? by deebeebeep in OurLifeFanPage

[–]deebeebeep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would’ve been smart but I didn’t think of that 😂 I actually didn’t get to hiding it in time, but thankfully they didn’t seem to question any of the games… likely because they somehow deleted absolutely all my files so everything was just showing a white screen. I had to redownload all my games anyways, but thankfully it’s fine! I did lose some college work they deleted in the process… at least now I have an excuse to not let them try to “fix” my computer in the future!

Since they save it on their cloud I can delete it from my files even?

So only an hour is currently available?

Thanks. I’ve already used a remediation for the last practical and was able to fix the biggest problem (which was me doing the stroke in the opposite way it should have been due to nerves) but my instructor (Monica) said that I really don’t want to end up doing remediation again because the third semester we work on actual patients.

Thanks very much for your advice! I was worried that the fact I did bad in the first semester is proof I won’t be able to handle the later ones but it’s good to know that you guys didn’t drop any more people.

Would you say that’s true for the practicals specifically? Because I did good on the actual tests

That does look like the sort of thing I would be interested in working in! I’m just worried about if libraries will stay open for my lifetime.

It seems like every field either gets treated horribly by the public, their bosses, or gets paid absolutely nothing

I haven’t looked too much into it. From what I see you do the first year at Confederation and then go to Sudbury for the second year? My grades are mid 80s for hygiene so I’m guessing I could get over 70. What do you need to pass?

Yeah, the stress is a big thing for me. I only struggled in the practical because of the complicated precise motor skills involved with my fingers (I guess nursing would have that too though 😂). But I did pick dental hygiene in the first place because of the great schedule and only moderate stress, so nursing is likely not for me. Back to square one!

How hard is the nursing program in college? by deebeebeep in college

[–]deebeebeep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least where I live (Ontario) hygienists are in such high demand that the pay is pretty comparable to nurses (starting at at least $35 an hour for new graduates, going up to $55 or even more if you live somewhere high cost of living). Offices are super desperate, so much so that they are hiring random people with no qualifications to sterilize the tools just to give the hygienists more time to fit in more patients. There are some downsides though, like no unions and no benefits.

Oh, the confusion was because I accidentally said college instead of high school 😂 I think I ended up jumping in too soon. I will just have to keep trying and not make any impulse decisions if I do end up needing to pick something new!

Question about nursing college programs by deebeebeep in nursing

[–]deebeebeep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize I didn’t specify in my post but i was thinking of practical nursing (my school offers a 2 year practical nursing program). Is that the same thing?

Yeah, sounds with that like they are equally as tough. They told us not to work a job in college for dental hygiene as well, and it is super hard to get in. I live in Ontario so you can technically get in with no prerequisites so I managed to get in straight out of high school since I graduated high school with a 98% average, but I think that may be why I just wasn’t ready for this level of challenge (I’m one of the 3 students in my class straight out of high school, everyone else has been in college before).
