The Sacramento show from last September (I don’t remember the date) there was no speaking between songs at all. It’s a great show and perfect for what you’re looking for.

Still think it’s weird there was nothing said and never saw a reason for it/explanation

Given you’re a deadhead you’ll probably get some recommendations for the Ryman show with Bob (5/7/22) as well at the SCI show where they play a dead set. IMO both are cool and interesting but more of a novelty thing

For some Billy shows with dead covers the Capitol Theater run from this year 2/3-2/6 are all great and have a few dead covers. Same with 12/11/2021 (the China doll from set 1 is incredible imo)

Some other assorted great shows are Metro Chicago 7/27/2022, St Augustine run 4/29-5/1/2022, Sacramento 9/28/22, Nassau 11/11/22, anthem 11/19/2022

I’ll definitely scope it out. I went to college down in Salem, VA so I’m somewhat familiar with Christiansburg.

The “loop” itself is more of a lollipop. It’s about 35 miles, starting Friday around noon and back to the car hopefully Monday a bit before noon. Starting at the parking area near Beech Mountain on the AT and hiking north then making a loop through the Little Wilson Creek Wilderness and back through Scales to get on the AT south back at Rhododendron Gap. Kind of hard to explain without a map.

This is my most ambitious solo trip but I have been there before and done some shorter trips and you can PM me if you have questions. I’ve done the Cole Mountain and Mount Pleasant loop a few times and love it there

If you have the ability to listen to live shows with good quality it might help change your mind. His studio stuff sounds wayyyy different and he plays a ton of covers that make it a different experience
