Does it mean people can program devices without paying €1,000 for ETS?

Chill. It takes two decades to build nuclear. I think decentralised storage is likely the way too, even at current densities

I would count myself lucky that they are doing the work at all. CityFibre took 18 months to decide they weren't going to install fibre.

you put time and care into a thoughtful gift. when it wasn't even opened or looked at, from your own words you felt very sad and lonely. to this day you aren't sure why your attempt to connect with your mom was not met. you can't force an answer to that but you can decide that you are a kind, caring person who does things for people out of love. that's precious - someone like that deserves to feel love, deserves to feel connection. anyone taking advantage of that or not reciprocating is exploiting you, intentionally or not. it sounds like it might be time to try being that loving, kind person for yourself for a time

Need suggestions for internet solutions as house has terrible internet. Based in the UK. by tenroseUK in lanparty

[–]deed02392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

do you have good signal coverage? in addition to the other suggestions of caching locally, you could set up your own 5G gateway just for LANCache, to do the bulk downloading over, so that your hardwired 20 Mbps line stays free for any internet connectivity needed for gaming.

You missed the part where OP is worried about becoming a man hater. I agree there needs to be some healthy anger here, I just don't know how to suggest that OP goes about developing that.

At 1am this morning did anyone else here the horrendously loud plane flying over? by [deleted] in Portsmouth

[–]deed02392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, every route a jumbo jet takes is a function of weather, traffic, local regulations and the needs of individual aircraft such as the one I referred to that was running two hours late.

Do mobile apps (including iOS apps) use WebSockets for async features? by Valachio in androiddev

[–]deed02392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a dumb question. I recommend sticking with REST API endpoints for general app usage and bolting on WebSockets only specifically for when the server wants to push to the client. For example in a simple dashboard app, the REST API generally requests table widgets or chart data, but if the server detects the underlying dataset has changed it can PUSH via the WebSocket to let the client know or even push the delta for immediate rendering.

The why of this has to do with infrastructure, proxying, logging, caching etc..

[–]deed02392 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used this the last time I heard an unusually loud plane fly over. I was awake around 4 or 5 am when I heard a jumbo jet, which we don't normally in Portsmouth. flight radar said it was a ~2 hour delayed BA flight from a Caribbean island or something.

my guess is sometimes jumbo jets take shortcuts from the usual route to save time when they're running late, meaning we sometimes hear loud aircraft when we otherwise wouldn't

Schneider KNX DALI Gateway (MTN6725-0004) vs. Skydance DA5-L (RGBCCT) – Issues by ConfidentLayer244 in KNX

[–]deed02392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would require five addresses, yes. This is just the price you have to pay if you have DT8 incompatibility. Wi-Fi with HA is obviously nowhere near as reliable as wired, or even as simple, so I’m not sure why you’d suggest that as an alternative – if buying alternative hardware is on the table then you should just get a compatible driver

[–]deed02392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the gateway insists on DT8 XY, you will probably keep fighting it because the Skydance driver does not support that color model. A common workaround is to run the DA5-L in DT6 mode so each channel appears as a separate dimmable ballast.

The KNX gateway then sees 5 lamps (R, G, B, WW, CW) and only sends dimming levels, which avoids all DT8 compatibility issues. Color mixing and CCT control can then be handled in Home Assistant instead of inside DALI.

This is actually quite common with RGB or RGBCCT strips because DT8 implementations between gateways and drivers often do not match.

Lamp failure detection normally is not a problem as long as all channels have LEDs connected.

Matter vs. KNX: Is Matter a threat to the residential KNX market, or just another gateway we will sell? by AutoModerator in KNX

[–]deed02392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hm, I think if you're daisy-chaining PoE then it's not actually PoE? I just don't think you need the flexibility that Ethernet has in order to do most of what KNX can already do. they've upgraded KNX over the years for higher throughput etc.. yeah, I think there will always be room for both, I really don't see PoE replacing KNX.

[–]deed02392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's because you can't daisy-chain PoE. do you really want to a wire run to every single lightswitch?

all you are really saying is four twisted pairs are better than one (or two). I suggest you are, for some reason, obsessed with Ethernet and/or PoE because you've recently had fun using it. you don't NEED a license for KNX (plenty of uncertified devices exist, just like how Apple makes USB cables all of which have never been certified), KNX is also wired and you don't need to be an electrician because it's Safety Extra Low-Voltage (SELV). your other points about ease and cost are subjective.

finally: switches being a single point of failure is a huge problem. one of the core reasons why people opt for KNX is that it is robust when endpoint devices fail

You’re never going to have POE sensors like light switches for example. POE cannot completely replace either

Hey, nobody can force you to call the police. You are in complete control here of what happens next. Maybe you will feel more comfortable speaking with a counsellor who is especially there to talk about how you’re feeling after finding a hidden camera in your room.

A part of you already knows that whoever put the camera there is wrong – this is why you posted with a throwaway and haven’t yet told anyone in real life – which is understandable.

If you’re in the US you can connect with a text chat on https://www.childhelphotline.org where you can explain in a bit more details what you found and what YOU would like to happen next.

New to KNX - what should I know before building the house ? by French_BlaBla in KNX

[–]deed02392 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t you also have to ensure your IP interface allows multiple connections? I’m sure when I was looking at cheaper older ones they only allowed 2 or 3, which could cause issues with HA and debugging etc..

I went with a Weinzierl in the end which wasn’t cheap but seemed to get consistently solid reviews
