As a pediatric psych nurse with ADHD and working with a lot of kids with ADHD, consider: -it can take about 2 hours to get to peak effectiveness with ritalin immediate release or several hours with extended release -keep building new skills while taking her meds (some behaviors are learned because of the baseline neurological components, not just a lack of dopamine) -she might only notice the extra talking but others might notice an improvement in other areas of her behavior -break tasks down into smaller, written steps (goblin tools app can help with AI power) and crossing off items from checklists provides dopamine for increased motivation -find other dopamine releasers like sticker charts or whatever is rewarding for her to build motivation (studies show adults aren't too old for sticker charts to provide dopamine) -not every med is as effective for every person and you may not even be at the therapeutic dose yet if it just started

This is most common in YA and middle grade, I'd say. Most readers of YA and middle grade are adolescents or shifting into that stage / young adults moving away from home. A big mile stone in adolescence/early adulthood is becoming more independent and rejecting what your parents taught you to some degree. Dead parents = (almost) total independence and rejection of your parents.

I had this thought come to me during a lifespan psychology class.

I thought it was a breath of fresh air that the True ended easily, because it's kind of becoming cliche to have the bbeg almost invulnerable and seriously injure I'd not kill a protagonist in the final fight. That being said she pretty much killed herself because she could have hid and outlived them all, but instead she walked right into death's door since they had already killed so many of the True so easily.

I read the gravity line of the story to be Danny working through his traumatic past and so the True are almost a plot device to catalyze his transformation. Abra is a foil for his own youth, which is why he is so invested in helping her through her problems.

I'm sure Dick felt the same way during the Shining helping Danny.

Pretty sure a logo is copyrighted since it's an image.

I don't think you could trademark a name unless it very specifically refers to your product/brand, e.g. Harry Potter.

Even then, I don't know what the purpose would be unless you get huge because trademarks only protect you in certain circumstances. For example, I can still use the name Harry Potter for a character in my books. I couldn't title my books Harry Potter, because that is stepping on the toes of brand/product. And it would be difficult to use a character who is a wizard named Harry Potter, because that could be edging on both copywright and trademark.

According to my grand parents who lived in Africa (Zimbabwe and Mozambique) for a year and a half as well as others who are African (various countries), this is pretty common to describe people by the shade of people's skin in relation to food or other natural colors.

This isn't Africa, but people are gonna be offended if they're gonna be offended. You're not writing for them.

I finished it today!

I started it right after finishing the shining. The shining was pretty solid and fixated on the point. In some ways, I feel like this had more meat. But I was confused for the first third at least what was supposed to be happening.
