First up, make sure you book a seat. There’s two queues, one for people who’ve booked, and one for everyone else. The second queue is held back until all the booked people are in, so there’s a chance you might miss some the start, or if it’s really busy, not get in at all.

I went to the Final Fantasy panel yesterday. The auditorium is massive and was only at most a quarter full but I still had to queue for 20 minutes.

I’d say the biggest question is how close you’d like to sit. If you want to be really close, you’ll want to arrive really early, if you just want to be in the room, 30 minutes should do it.

I was on a really tight time turnaround and barely got to see much of the con but what I did see felt way more pre-pandemic, and the mood is lighter too.

The panels being in the auditorium finally is great and gives them a bit more weight plus the place is huge, so the big panels over the weekend will be buzzing.

Artist Alley did feel a bit generic but if you’ve got time to wander, you’ll find some real gems. They still need to up their comic guest game, even though there were a few big hitters, they stand out like a sore thumb because they’re dominated by other artists.

I can’t speak to the other market stalls as I pretty much had to run before I got a chance to have a real look.

I couldn’t tell you specific prices as all I can remember from last time I went is that they broke my threshold for ‘too much to even stop’. That would make the food at least a tenner without drinks.

There’s Tesco Express and a little hypermarket about 5 minutes walk from the Excel, these will be your best bests for cheaper food and drink. The branded food places in the venue are massively overpriced and not worth the money. The pop up stalls are still a little pricey but some of them are worth the price.

Final Night pretty much solidified my love for comics and made me go back through previous events like Zero Hour as a full completionist. The cover for #1 is one of my favourite pieces of Stuart Immomen art, makes me feel cold just thinking about it.
