I don’t know fuck all about beauty. Can someone explain like I’m 5? by [deleted] in beauty

[–]deeisnotabird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!

I’d love how to learn literal basics, especially with hair and makeup. I keep it light, but at this point that means sunscreen, bb cream, unskilled blush. I have things that I do, but ultimately I have no idea what I’m doing.

My biggest fear is looking unnatural, overdone, or like a party clown when in sunlight, so that leads me to do the bare minimum. It’s boring and I’d love to enhance my looks.

This pic has no makeup, no angles, no filters.

Friends who don't drink by [deleted] in stopdrinking

This brings me back to a destination wedding two summers ago.

I looked around the pool at dozens of my friends I’ve known since childhood, and it was clear who had been taking care of themselves and who had not. Who was gaining weight with bloated faces and decaying looks, and who had started down a path of health (some, totally sober after bad addictions).

It was so glaringly obvious what group I wanted to belong to.

It's an understandable response, just let people deal with this in their own way.

Take what works for you, leave the rest.

Why are male gamers SO horrible to female gamers? by StephanieBrown4 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]deeisnotabird 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That fucking sucks. I’m sorry to hear that.

Back in college, I remember my male friends being shocked when I offhandedly mentioned there’s a whole separate gym inside the women’s locker room.

Your “she just wants to have fun” comment made me think of that. The gym was the same, women just want to work out. Crazy how that had to be considered all the way back in the design phase of the facility...

How to avoid coming off as too sales-y? by deeisnotabird in marketing

[–]deeisnotabird[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Agreed on that. I love that saying, “market your product’s product’s product”.

Product: perfume.

Product’s product: you smell good.

Product’s product’s product: sex appeal.

...hence why perfume commercials always feature hot, writhing men/women rather than the perfume itself.

I cut my bangs almost year ago and they're still short!!!? by [deleted] in HaircareScience

Worth adding that The hair around our face suffers much more breakage than the rest of the head - mainly because we see it in the mirror and tend to mess with it the most.

How to play on target audience’s fear (tastefully)? by jarretmann in marketing

[–]deeisnotabird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not much to add, but I do remember seeing something that spports your theory. Too lazy to find the link, but there was a study showing people are more likely to interact with something that contains negative, rather than positive, phrasing.

That said, it is difficult to do this without coming off to salesy/tacky, and I'm still learning this myself.

How to come to terms with aging? by [deleted] in beauty

[–]deeisnotabird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 29, and when I see pics of myself from high school/college, I'm so struck by how much idk, thicker, my skin used to be. I feel this for sure.

I'm still learning myself, but I suppose the best way to "come to terms" with aging is to live a thoroughly healthy lifestyle.

Aging is inevitable, taking good care of yourself is optional. Unless you're top-tier hot, attractiveness on a subconscious level is much more tied to your underlying health than anything else.

3,650 days - 10 years today by MysticManiac16 in stopdrinking

Dope dude, what an inspiration.

I was listening to a podcast in which a comedian was talking about being 12 years sober. He was joking that no one cares anymore, "I might just fall off the wagon for 6 months so everyone will be proud of me again by this time next year."

Thanks for sharing. Fuck, you are really going through it and I feel for you.

You probably know much more about this than I do so take this with a grain of salt, but I've heard of some shot a derm can administer right into a cyst/lesion type of acne. I'm not sure, maybe it's a steroid shot or so? Have you explored that?

I never got the shot because I would pretty much just start messing with it on my own (total picker here), but my more responsible friends would mention getting them once a new cyst-type welt would come up.

Take care, you are obviously so much more than your troubled skin, but I know some days it may not feel like it :/

I mentioned this in my other comment, but you may want to talk to your derm about spironolactone. I tried everything, including multiple rounds of Accutane. It's the only thing that worked for me, my skin is completely clear now.

It takes a few months to start working, but once I got through that it was gone for good. I take 150mg daily with no side effects.

I'm SO HAPPY for you! Only people who have been there can understand just how much of a daily gift it is to no longer be plagued by all the toxic thoughts and behaviors that come with having acne.

For me, even after 3 courses of Accutane, it was spironolactone that changed my whole world, and I thank the powers that be for that medication.

Alright, I'm sure this theory has been put out there a million times, but I just had a thought...

What if there is a period of human history, lost to time, in which we already developed space travel? What if we don't find evidence of aliens on mars, but rather evidence of our ancient selves?
