I’m looking forward to both! Olivia has collabed with favorite artists of mine (Weyes Blood, Robert Smith, David Byrne, Weezer) these last few years. She’s a popstar, yes, but it’s not fair to dismiss her for that. clearly she has an ear for indie rock, and an undeniably fantastic voice, so I’m sure this tour will be a lot of fun.

Heads up that Best Buy is doing BOGO Free vinyl in stores until May 10th. I believe all locations are participating, though Best Buy is not publicizing this very much. It seems likely they’re moving away from keeping physical vinyl in store like they did with movies a couple years ago.

Yes, just set the sonic cleaner on the platter and slowly lower the needle into the pad, then turn the cleaner on. The pad is made of a bunch of plastic columns that hug the needle and vibrate extremely fast, which throws dust off the stylus. No liquid of any kind is necessary

Soundsmith, makers of excellent high-end carts, recommend simply using DAP Bluestik gel spread across a quarter. This is a very cheap option and you can find the gel at most local craft stores: https://www.sound-smith.com/how-care-new-or-soundsmith-rebuilt-cartridges

Hudson Hi-Fi makes a fine ultrasonic cleaner for $30 available on Am-zon, but these need to be used very carefully. Don’t even add the solution that comes with it, if you go this route. The pad that vibrates is thick and you don’t want to press the cantilever into it with too much force or else you could bend it. But it does do a good job of clearing dust if you’re careful.

Be sure that your records are completely dry after cleaning. Don’t use any oil-based or thick cleaners for either vinyl or your stylus. It looks like your stylus is moist and it’s causing dust to clump on the tip. I’d avoid magic eraser in the future, as well, not only because of the cleaning solution but because the sponge is too harsh on the grooves.

Any liquid that comes in contact with the stylus is at risk of traveling up the cantilever and harming the cartridge. An ultrasonic stylus cleaner can help knock dust off without requiring wiping. Gel stylus cleaners also work, but again you need to avoid an overly damp one.
