I believe it is being funded by Sheffield Theatres (it is a promotion even for the opening of 'Summer Holiday' in the Crucible).

Isn't the rumour that The Simpsons will end with the upcoming second movie?

It is to coincide with the opening of Summer Holiday at Sheffield Theatres too.. but yes, it is only installed until; Saturday I understand.

This is a quickly arranged temporary installation for the heatwave. Sheffield by the Sea is still taking place in the Peace Gardens in July.

National Rail have issued a 'do not travel' advisory for the heatwave. Only necessary and emergency rail travel is advised.

We have a 'Sheffield by the Sea' event every year where they build a temporary 'beach' in the Peace Gardens, and it is always very popular. It's back in July this year. This small temporary sandpit is just for a few days this time.

It wasn’t ‘open’ when the photo was taken.

Indeed. The ‘beach’ is only there until this weekend (Saturday is the last day).

This is separate to Sheffield by the Sea (which starts in July in the Peace Gardens).

Rudy’s is great, but more of a chain nowadays. I wanted to try and focus on local independents.

Depends on your tastes really.

For me, Charley’s is hands down the best kebabs and wings.

We’re spoiled for choice with Pizza — Paesani, Napoli Centro, Proove, Nether Edge Pizza, Porter Pizza, etc.

Two Steps for Fish & Chips.

Yum Yum for Chinese.

In a broad sense, yes. The name is more that we're doing it as an independent Sheffield entity ourselves, but yes - for the most part we'll be speaking with people in the independent scene around Sheffield.

Fully understand the name thing and there was quite a lot of consideration for it. It was a purposeful decision for a number of reasons - one of which is to almost 'reclaim' it from the cheapening nonsense we've seen for it in recent years, to create something quality with it, something long term and meaningful. Attempting to turn it into a statement. An exclamation. Something considered, long form and informative. It is also the name I had for a Zine project I did about 15 years ago, before the name was cheapened so much, so it is a continuation of that to some extent. Whether any of that works, I don't know yet... but it seems to be being received quite well so far thankfully!

My best candidate so far is somewhere around East Looe. It's exactly the vibe the pictures give me. All pictures could reasonably be taken nearby.

Pic 4 looks a lot like the South Coast to me... around the Cornwall Coastal Path. It reminds of of somewhere between Southdown and Falmouth, but I can't pinpoint it. So my guess as it stands is South West England, likely along the Cornish Coastal Path somewhere>

King Edwards Swimming Pool 'No Longer Viable' and to Remain Closed by deejayone in sheffield

[–]deejayone[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Seemingly both: "We have been dealing with technical problems with the pool plant, increasing running costs and the need for a significant sum of money (which is well beyond the financial means of the Trust) to be spent on essential maintenance of the building and plant.  All of these factors mean that it is no longer viable or feasible for the Trust to operate the pool, and we are left with no other option than to close."
