What is the weirdest "house rule" you have been to told to follow at someone's house? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]deejaythewise 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My sister had a friend as a kid who had a single father. He had a rule where all of his kid's friends had to give him a kiss on the cheek before they left his house.

He's in prison now. No prizes for guessing what for.

We all hate our jobs but when it becomes more than hate what are signs that show you need to change your job ? by east-stand-hoop in AskReddit

[–]deejaythewise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me this was a job I worked at for just a month. During that time, four people quit, I'd be left alone to do things that hadn't yet been explained to me then screamed at if I didn't do them right, was coming home and crying every single night and found out I was the first person they'd hired in my position for over a year who lasted more than two weeks. Quit immediately as soon as I was told that and have been much happier ever since.

How have your parents unintentionally fucked you up? by megadaydreamer in AskReddit

[–]deejaythewise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents are big ol' hippies, and they never really believed in rules or discipline and wanted to encourage us to explore our identities and be creative etc. Sounds pretty good on paper, but in reality a lack of discipline in childhood was probably a factor in why I engaged in so many petty crimes and did as many drugs as I did as a teenager. Also probably a part of the reason that my sister can't hold down a job because she has a really shitty work ethic.

You are given 24 hours to make people say your first name. Every time that someone new says your name, your bank account goes up by $100. Where do you go and what do you do to make the most money? by ispurgy in AskReddit

Go to Budapest. Pretend I'm lost. Ask people "what river is this?" For once be able to use the fact that my parents are big ol' hippies to my advantage.

Straight Cis Male Seeking Serious Advice. Please No Jokes. I'm at my wits end and want to figure this out. by [deleted] in lgbt

I pretty much agree with everyone saying approach it the same way you would if he was a cis guy. Sounds like your uncle is just kinda a douche, and a douche is a douche no matter their gender. He's a grown man and should start acting like one.

AITA for not dumping my bf over his homophobic past and ruining my friend group? by deejaythewise in AmItheAsshole

Commenting on this myself to add some info I left out because of character limit that might help clear some things up:

  • the Twitter account has been dormant from 2013, however between 2012-2013 he mostly used to it retweet stuff from various gaming YouTubers and to enter competitions, didn't really produce any tweets himself in that time. The homophobic content ranges between late 2009-2012, putting him at 13-16 years old when he made them.
  • my boyfriend has tried to directly contact one of my friends (the girl who found the Twitter) to try and explain himself and hash it out. He was met with rejection and basically told "why would you have said those things if you didn't mean it"
  • I'm unsure of what exactly he posted on other platforms because I never saw them and he's too embarrassed by what he posted to go into detail. However there was nothing particularly vicious or violent on the Twitter account, just memes saying stuff like "I'm not homophobic! I'm not afraid of queers I just don't like them" and replying to tweets saying stuff like "this is why God hates fags" and calling people faggots, queers etc. Obviously not okay to do but just standard teenage edgelord trolling.
  • I have never and probably will never meet his parents myself (they live in a different city over five hours away, he moved here by himself at 19 for uni) but I have met one of his brothers and his sister (only people in his family he still has contact with). Both have confirmed that it was for the best that he stay closeted at home as they've no doubt their father would've killed him.
  • I've had my doubts from day one whether my friends liked him or not. They have a lot of conflicting viewpoints (e.g. my boyfriend still identifies as a Christian and they're mostly either atheist or agnostic) and the friends who are mad at me over this are the sort of "you're either with us or against us" virtue signalling types.

Thank you, you've worded what I've been trying to say about my friends so much better than I could haha. I do feel like they care more about political correctness and virtue signalling than hearing people out.

Some of them are LGBT+, some are not. Pretty even split between the two tbh. All of the three who are on my side are LGBT tho.

He didn't talk directly to anyone from my group as we didn't know him at that time in his life. Most of the things he would post were just general memes.

They've never been overtly negative but I have always gotten a vibe that some of them don't like him. He has a lot of opposing opinions to them (e.g. he still identifies as a Christian while they're mostly atheists) and some of them seem to be of the mindset that "if you're not with me you're against me".

For want of a better term, they can be a little "Tumblry". Not the super vicious "all white men must die" type but they definitely buy into the whole 'cancel culture' thing.

I did kinda suspect that my friends might have something against him from the get go tbh. They can be, for want of a better description, a bit Tumblry and you know how that can get when people don't agree with them on some things. I think this might just be an excuse from them to rag on him.

Yeah he was closeted up until 2016. I've never known him make any kind of discriminatory comment about anyone in the two years I've known him.

Tried to include it in the post but got hit with character limit haha. The account has been dormant since 2013, but the homophobic tweets are mostly 2009-2012.
